Steam won't update my achievements
Poulscath replied to pcmodhouse's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Using the console will stop achievements registering during that session. -
I suspect that these sites had already been hacked long before. It's just that this group are boasting about it instead of keeping quiet and selling the information to spammers or criminals.

I take it you've never played Daggerfall then.

So did the developers made a profit out of the PC game?
Poulscath replied to Satangel's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
It's likely that the balance between the PC and console versions shifts with time. Initially, the console versions may sell more but, as time passes, the value of the mods on the PC version increases as technology advances and more mods are made. It certainly gives Bethesda a good incentive to support the PC and the modding tools; they get a good early income from the consoles followed by long term income from the PC versions. After all, Morrowind is still selling after 9 years. -
It doesn't help that many ports are sloppily and/or lazily done.

Trouble Shooting Oblivion Framerate Issues~
Poulscath replied to NArroo's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Oblivion can hammer your harddrive and system memory more than most games, especially with big texture mods. I'd check those out too. -

If you're using the new Steam screenshot facility, remember to back up your screenshots first since the above article hasn't been updated to account for them. (The local copies are stored in a directory you're told to delete). -
Many perfumes give me a splitting headache mere seconds after smelling them. I also get a rash on my hands after eating anything with dairy in it.

Those links check the referrer. Copy/paste them into the address bar twice and it should work

I keep meaning to play the original Deus Ex with the new renderer and texture packs but keep getting distracted by my long list of other moddable games

Can't Install OBSE with the D2D downloable game
Poulscath replied to jallard's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Strange, because I had it working once before --before I had to reformat the hard drive and lost mostly everything. As a radical nonconformist I find it disdainful that D2D would do that. I bought the game. It's my game now. I should have the right to do with it as I will. One thing is certain, it convinces me not to ever by another downloadable game ever again. Perhaps, that is why I was upset when I bought the disk version of FNV and then realized that it was a downloaded version from Steam. Still, Steam doesn't encrypt the .exe: thank God. Apparently, Steam does encrypt the exe, but Valve worked with the OBSE devs to get it working anyway. -
Actually, wget does support cookies. Extracting them from the clutches of your browser, however, is left as an exercise for the reader :) (It's been years since I last did it)

Which is better If I want to mod?
Poulscath replied to junkmailfile12's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
You can also move an already installed Steam, see here. -
You mean something like the DaggerXL engine replacement, which, I believe, will support texture replacers and such?

Nuclear apocalypse in real life.
Poulscath replied to BloXboX's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Actually, the docudrama you want to watch is the BBC one called "Threads". It's the bleakest film ever made. -
Body replacers for individuals
Poulscath replied to Ringoblackknight's topic in Fallout 3's Discussion
Thanks for the link to the race making doc, I'll switch to that instead of using Play as Alice as a base. -

Maybe something like Play as Alice?
