  1. "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others" I am sure that we all know that phrase, and we all know that it was in a short critique of Communism by George Orwell. And I am sure that we all understand its meaning, right? Well, everyone except the mod authors of Nexusmods.com, aided and abetted by the site owner, Robin Scott who posted his thoughts on the value to the community of the various user types of the site into five tiers, with mod authors being the topmost tier, allowed to walk around on their hind legs and drink each others egos. This forum discussion can be found here. The toxicity in that thread made my mind want to puke. Mr. Scott, I do admire you for your entrepreneurship. However, it might be good advice to remember that "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Lord Acton 1887. By your undocumented actions, (there is NOTHING in the terms of service regarding mod author bans) you have created a hierarchical community in which mod authors are literally the gods of this website. They can do no wrong, and are accountable to no one (except yourself, of course. But then, you made them gods, so you'd be unlikely to correct them...) Croc. Note: If this reads as a separate post, that is because it is. Or, was. Mr. Scott suggested that I add this post to this thread, and locked the thread I created. Also in that thread, Rabbit 51 replied, "Well, if there were no mod crafters there would be no reason for the site. Yes, no? The Rabbit" to which I replied, "Commercially, if there were no ad-clicks there would be no website. Guess who makes the most ad-clicks..."
  2. Commercially, if there were no ad-clicks there would be no website. Guess who makes the most ad-clicks...

  4. i recently made a post reminding SirSalami that he'd requested me to PM him over a week ago, and that he had yet to respond. That post has disappeared. ('Thin Aired' is my new phrase for the day.) So now you can now be banned from a mod that you have never used, let alone commented on, by an author you don't know, and if you then try to post on it as a site issue, your posts get 'thin aired'. I suppose that is 'Impossible', too. Guys, I am not going away. I am trying to help you get to the bottom of an issue with your website. Any of the staff old enough to remember 'The Car Guys' on CBC radio? Their answer to a suspicious noise was 'Turn up the radio'. Nexusmods staff's answer seems to be 'thin-air the comment' The mod that I have never used or commented on by an author I don't know is "Opulent Outfits - Mage Robes of Winterhold-2017". I am sure that you already have my external IP #. Now go forth and do good. Croc.. postscript: I received one reply to the post that was 'thin-aired', so I know that I am not going over the edge.
  5. Be very careful... I take it very seriously when I am called a liar. It was mentioned that a mod author could block you from ALL their files, yes? Then there IS a mechanism for one to be blocked from a mod that he has not commented on. And, by extension, ANY mod. This is speculation on my part, based on what I have read in the original thread about this as well as some other information that has been passed on to me. However, the FACTS are that I get a ban notice when opening a mod page that I have NEVER commented in.
  6. I am already working with a moderator, but they have been silent for a day or two. As to the lack of reporting of mod authors being so minuscule, why do you think that is? Most users probably don't really care all that much, and the ones that have had a "run in" have probably been warned - rightly or wrongly, so just keep their comments to themselves. With a system that is weighted so far in the mod authors' favor, what do you expect users to do? I can now confirm that I have been blocked from a mod that I have never commented on. I have sent a request for 'why' to the owner as reported in the warning, but get no response. So from my point of view that is abuse. But I can't report it... Of course the Nexus now has an almost-monopoly position on mods for some games, so I doubt that anyone at The Nexus cares all that much for what user's think, it is all about content. I am being cynical, at least I hope so.
  7. Thank you. I am finding that thread to be an interesting read. This was the first time that I knew that there was a 'Secret Authors Forum', for instance. There were many comments on the abuse of a totally non-moderated system, and there were as many comments from staff that the above would NEVER happen. This is now 4 years on. Abuse HAS occurred. I think that the issue needs a re-think.
  8. I recently encountered a situation, new to me, and also not in the current terms of service, whereby an author can block a user that 'offends' them from the mod that the supposed offense occurred, and also from any other mod that the author owns, or is a contributor to, or.. Well, as there is nothing in the TOS, I don't know what else. All that I really know for sure is that you will see he below warning: The author of this mod has blocked your access to this file. This is not an error with the site and the Nexus staff will not get involved with unblocking your access, so do not contact the moderation team for help. Accessing an author's mod page is a privilege, not your right. You can try to amicably resolve this issue with the mod author, if they'll let you, but be warned: if you are rude or break our terms of service when contacting the mod author and they report you it's extremely likely you will be banned completely from these sites. Is it worth it? You decide. Be warned.
  9. Thandal, as a retired systems engineer I hope you are wrong. I was wondering if there were any reasons for the rather low d/l speeds that I experienced on those days specifically in regards to the file "Legacy of the Dragonborn V18 Final Core-52248-V18Final.7z". And, as a matter of curiosity, what was the intention of the "ramping' traffic shaping profile that I was used to seeing.
  10. Download throttling / speed / methodology comments... Over the period May 28 / 29, NZ time, my downloads seem to have been in the range of 1.4 to 1.9 MBs. I am probably using the CDN, but at times have forced a download through American or European 1 or 2 with pretty much the same results..Also, until recently the system would ramp up to a given speed (usually 6 to 8 MBs) then drop back to near 0 and start ramping again. Please, set my expectations as to what I should be seeing for throttling method and current MBs limitations. Thanks, Croc
  11. First, regarding virtualization... I am not sure yet about W 10, but W 7's implementation of sym links has been somewhat problematic, and prone to failure when a 'hard implementation', such as a system file fix, happens to overwrite a link. Now that MS is only doing maintenance on W 7, maybe not a problem... Please, no comments on this. It is what it is, as my Oncology Dr. so nicely puts it. The way that I intend to use a manager is to keep a list of the mods that I have installed, including overwrites, and, hopefully be able to make separate lists for separate installs of the same game. Say I want set A of mods for character a, and a different set B of mods for char. b. And I do mean DIFFERENT. I may mod a mod in set A and have the same mod vanilla in set B So, in your language spider.dll may not be the same in game a as it is in game b, but in the original mod it is untouched. Currently, NMM does a truly 'hard link' as the mods are all physically copied and stored in a separate location on (in my case) a different drive to my game drive. Not the best use case for drive storage... However, it is rather bullet-proof. For one set of files in one game. IFF sym links were stable, AND there were enough intelligence in the manager to recognize time-date changes in files (and to keep BU copies of changed files...) and to know when to overwrite what files from what mod, as well as to be able to keep separate lists of files of files used in game ver. a as well as the list of files in game ver. b... THEN you might have a game manager of mods that wasted no space. How to do that with no type of internal DB? Hey, YOU are the software engineer. I only do hardware. On a last note, my primary aversion to MO was its tendency to want to do everything for the user, in a rather non-transparent way. If I can't reverse-engineer what the manager is doing, then I can't recover from failures. I will front up for guinea pig duty...
  12. Almost all users of the Nexus use a 32-bit browser, regardless of the bit-edness of their OS. Easy check: On a 64-bit Windows rig, look for the browser's executable file. If it's under "\Program Files", it's the 64-bit version. But if it's under "\Program Files (x86)", it's the 32-bit version. With the exception of Edge on a 64-bit Win10 rig, 64-bit browsers require a deliberate manual download and install. Their defaults are all the 32-bit versions. (BTW: The 64-bit version of Opera is still "experimental", and has been for over a year. It is almost impossible to find.) User ignorance is not my concern here. I personally am not any sort of 'expert' on browsers, but Chrome defaults to 64 bit for me, as does FF. I also use Windows 7, and I get the same defaults served up as I do for 10. In fact, I was doing a bit of browser comparisons for my own purposes recently, and checked out many browsers. If they did NOT serve me 64 bit versions, they were on the 'do not test' list. I think from memory that I ended up with a list of ~seven to test. As to how hard Opera 64 bit is to find, I just did a google search and found it on the first page, 4th link.
  13. Just trying to get someone to notice me since it's not getting any better. Why are the pages constantly and autonomously refreshing? It must be something on your end, since you are the only one complaining. I have no problem with either Chrome or IE on my Lite-Brite. Well, good for Chrome and IE. As I said, I use Firefox. It might well be the latest Firefox update, I can't be the only one here who uses it. The thing is that I changed nothing apart from updating my browser and Nexus is the only site that's affected. That mykes me think it might have something to do with specifically Nexus. Firefox version is 52.0.1 32bit on a Win10 pc. Can someone who uses the same tell me if they experience constant site refreshing ob the Nexus mod pages (not in the forums) or if I am indeed the only one? I doubt that anyone on the Nexus uses a 32 bit browser as they all most likely have a modern enough PC to require a 64 bit browser. Personally, I use Chrome, IE, Firefox and Opera, none of them have an issue and they are all 64 bit.
  14. Some time ago the whole site was rebuilt. I don't know it any backups were kept, or how easy they would be to access, but if it is not a total PITA... I posted an image that I have since lost to to brain failure. (I had a 'minor' meltdown when told of my cancer.) So if possible, could I get this image recovered and somehow sent to me? http://static1.nexus...-1380321051.jpg Whether yea or nay, I thank you anyway. (I specialize in doggerel and low-wit stuff....) Croc
  15. Every once in a while some mod author names their download file something like 'COMPLETE FULL-607-1-7.zip'. Now what mod is THAT from? (If one of your DBA's knows, please... And I have a few more.) Obviously, there needs to be a search function based on actual download file names.
