  1. This thread is something of a brain storm session on Custom Player Races. Not so much in the idea of New races, but duplicating the current races so the player can customize their character without altering all the NPC's as well. I had started a mod to do so, but d_rail1602 beat me to the punch, but unfortunatly he/she blocked comments and discussion so there is a limited chance of ironing out this type of mods hic-ups, and bugs.

This is d_rails1602 http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=8720 The mod is as good as it can be given what any body knows, so it works as a perfect base.

Most of the bugs are actually bugs within the vanilla game, though techniqually not bugs since your not supposed to change race mid game in the first place, but here we go.

d_rail1602 has the foundation down so that we can use cutom textures and meshes, but races still use the same clothing meshes......booooo! So something to figure out. Most clothing is only sepeerated by Male/Female, but it appears some helmets are unique to Argonaian's. Thats something.

When changing race mid game things go wonky. There are work around to fix this ,but they are risky and very inconvenient like global warming. I've yet to experiment to see if this is true when going from something like "Nord" to "Custom Nord". Will post with results later.

SiberianExpress's Fallout: New Vegas Custom Race mod has already solved these problems. So now these type of fixes need to be applied to Skyrim Custom Race.

Alternate solutions are not out of question though. Is duplicate races the only way to be as unique as a snow flake? Is there a unique trigger inside the code that can be redirected by an esp, esm, and so on?

So, thats it for now. Post idea's, bug reports and so on so we can work together to develope this further.

UPDATE: Changing to any race including from something like Nord, to Custom Nord does indeed result in a semi character reset. You lose attribute points (all return to 100) and obviously all physical traits return to default.

Here is D_Rail's work around for this problem:

    Changing race problems:

If you don't want to start over with a new game, there are a couple

of issues you need to be aware of before you should use this mod.

Bear in mind, these problems exist in the vanilla game, so I can't

fix them. There are two console commands available to change your

    race: setrace and showracemenu.

Setrace, used by itself, causes your head to be gone after you quit and reload your

game. Showracemenu causes your skills (conjuration, light armor, and

so on) to scramble and your health, stamina and magicka either to go back

to 100 or the points get spread evenly among the three.

    Before changing your race

    ---

make a back up of your save game folder and hit the "skills" key

and write down your current health, magicka, and stamina. You may

need to remove clothing, rings, and such so that your stats aren't

getting bumped up by them. Also, write down what your skills are

at, all of them. I know it's a hassle, but it is the only way that

I know of to fix the problem.

    ---

Changing race and you want to a new face

    ---

type showracemenu into the console and pick the race you want.

    ---

Changing race and you want to keep your face

    ---

    Follow steps carefully:

    1. open console and type "setrace CustomRace" (see above for console names

    for each race). Close console.

    2. open console and type "showracemenu".

    3. Go up one race and back down. Do not do touch the sliders.

    4. Finish and pick a name

    5. open console and type "showracemenu". Fix your face with the sliders

if need be. Pick hair, eye color or whatever. Finish and pick name.

    ---

Add your skills back after changing race

    --

open the console and use "player.setav name ##"

Replace name with health, stamina, magicka, and all of your skills.

Replace ## with what you wrote down before changing your race.

See wiki for full list of skill names. Names are straightforward except

    speech = speechcraft in console.

  2. I found a solution!!!! Don't use the Beth's HD textures. No real mod would ask so much. Okay, their games are super buggy at launch. No biggy.....but come on. A texture mod. Seriously. WHY didn't they separate clothing and body textures from environment textures? Every modder on the Nexus would have thought of this prior to release. They'd think, "Oh, my mod conflicts with 99% of all known mods. Maybe I should rethink this."
  3. Found a fix! Instead of just left clicking on download, right click and select 'open in new tab' then go to that tab and when the error pops up go to the address bar, and you'll see it starts with fs3.nexusmods and so on. Change fs3 to fs4, and hit enter and boom! DL away.
  4. This was the greatest thread ever! So to recap. Dark0ne explains many members have been taking Moderating into their own hands instead of using the report button. Then it appears that the report button wasn't actually working currectly, hints why it appeared no one was using it. Then it was evidently fixed, and the thread continued. Questions were asked about what exactly constituted being a Vigilante and how to not get banned, and then at some point the Moderator explaining was banned.....Flipping awesome.
  5. been trying to download some witcher 2 mods from the witcher nexus site with no success. Is the server down or something? when i click a file to download, instead of showing a list of download locations it shows a error. cannot find server fs3.nexusmods.com or something to that effect. tried firefox and internet explorer and both had the same error. other nexus sites seem to work fine.

Exact same thing over at Skyrim Nexus. Actually the whole site has been very unstable for the past 2 days. Everyone always just say its all good, so doubt there will be any official word.

  6. For my money a good werewolf should be scary, and little else. Cute and fluffy is fine, but it's not a good monster. Of the movie werewolves I've seen, Professor Lupin from Harry Potter is FAR more frightening than, say, Lon Chaney... so, that's the direction I would go in. On the other hand, Lon Chaney snarling around Skyrim would have its own amusement value, I think. ^_^

Yeah, but you don't wanna be that guy on the Forums do you? The one who just can't stand someone typing 'there' when they mean 'their'. Also, I think this seperates intself enough from the others. The first one wants a female mesh for the Werewolves, the second want's an "Adult" Werewolf ;) and the last wants to alter how the gameplay of the Werewolf works. I want a mod that allows players to modify their Werewolf's appearance without affecting the rest of the werewolves. Though admittedly my title blows butt for that matter. I only stated the female thing, when in fact that was my personal use for the mod, not all it was about.

Also, I'm hilarious and a delight to read. Get this:

Two guys go into a bar. The first guy say's, "Hold on, is that a Nun, Priest, and guy with a trained monkey?" So the second guy goes, and poops in a bucket and says, "I think I got intestinal worms from eatting dog food!"

  7. I installed the mod compilation those crazy kids call Morrowind: 2011. When it first starts loading a message pops up saying there are some missing master files, and asks to continue. I click okay and it almost completely loads before poping up saying file unknown_grass could not be loacated. I then have to exit game. I saw a blog were someone had the same problem, but it was in another language.....booooo! Anyone else come across this.
  8. There is no logic to what the anotomy of a Werewolf should be, it's whatever you personally feel it should be. Human's have two 'large' (in comparison to K-9's) breasts, while wolves have six nipples. I don't really care if it's a freakish six nippled creature or two breasted human like body, I just think there should be a difference, I never said it should be "Sexy". More specifically I think we just need a Player Werewolf folder, so that whether your a male character or female your Werewolf can be unique to you. Thats what I'm really getting at here. Not jsut about adding boobs to a Werewolf, but allowing the same customization to your Wolf form as you can do to your normal form.

I really think to each his/her own after that. Some people might want to just have a slender wolf, others might want a big boobed wolf, and some might just want to be a different color. Attempting to add some sort of logic to the idea of Werewolves is a little insane. Logically we should remove all magic from the game and create a pooping mechanic.

If you feel there is no need for any of this, then you already have what you want. It's silly to say a mod shouldn't exist because you don't want it. When I see a cheat mod, or some creepy Anime mod, I just don't download it, but I will never try to question whether others should.

  9. It seems all new actions in Skyrim were linked to a piece of jewelry whether it made since or not. Getting married, becoming a werewolf, eatting corpses.......It seems like a cop out. Like they desperatly wanted to make a linear game. They feared we wouldn't play it right or something. I would go left but there is a mountain there. I'd go right but there are more mountains..........I guess I'll go forward. Best RPG ever, maybe, but I fear for the future. I think getting rid of the need for jewelry is always a good idea.
  10. Why would a red head turn into a black wolf?

I have yet to actually turn *into* a wolf (Although that quest is in my queue even as we speak) but this seems like a very good question. I presume that eventually there will be a mod that allows hair be all 16 million colors, and the thought of a blue or purple werewolf both frightens and amuses me, though.

Without getting REALLY personal I find it hard to visually gender one wolf from another, but a sleeker, less bulked-out shape would probably help matters. As for cleavage, while I cannot actively denounce the appeal of enhanced décolletage, I have to agree it wouldn't be appropriate on a werewolf. Maybe some extra fluffy fur in that vicinity might be an acceptable compromise. ^_^

I agree. I think when I say 'Female Werewolf' everone thinks Furry Porn. Has no one seen 'The Howling'? I very much would like it to be respectful of the Skyrim universe, and not Anime smut. Mainly, whats important is to have a Custom Folder specifically for the Player Werewolf, then you can put what ever mesh and texture you want in it.

  11. I've personally sworn off 'overhauls'. Mainly because I don't want to corrupt the balance set forth by Bethesda, not that I haven't before mind you. I boogered the hell out of New Vegas. Now I also agree it's not 'high priority' but what is? I mean, Skyrim is pretty okay as is, so really there is no priority. It would be a cool mod to be able for your unique character to become a unique werewolf. If you were able to make a Player Wolf folder you could even do things like have your Wolf form have your characters hair color. The idea effects more then just male or female. Why would a red head turn into a black wolf? Over time alternate testures could be made with various hair colors and scars to reflect the in game choices. Though this would only be cool if you really like Werewolves.
  12. It'd be nice to have a female werewolf varient instead of a single unisex werewolf. I'd imagine a slight tweek to the female Khajiit meshes and texture would do the trick. Add long claws, change head to be more wolf like. Remove tail.....or not. The trick would be to configure the game to know the difference between male and female or we'd have all female wolves. Don't know how well the animations would work with the smaller skeleton. Shouldn't be a problem though.....famous last words.

It would be cool using the Khajiit because any body mods would possibly work for them, so you'd have a customizable werewolf maybe.

  13. Now, I doubt it would be Illegal. Because, modders don't actually own the legal rights to what they make, because they are merely "modifying" content owned by Bethesda. Even if the modder used no preexisting content, the content would undoubtedly be bound by the EULA. EA for example clearly states that no modder can claim copyright owner ship over any content created for or from the Sims. It also states that no creator can profit from said mods, but as we all know there are more then a few paid sites.

I do agree that he should ask permission though, because it's kinda a rule within every mod community.....ever. Lots of creators don't request any permission to be given, so maybe he should stick with open mods. If you want to see what happens when mod communities go feral, google 'Sims 3 mods'. It's like a flip'n war 24/7.
