  1. I'm having the exact same problem. For now, I am manually downloading the mods I want, and then importing them into MO2. I think the problem has to be with Nexus, because I haven't changed settings in, or updated, Mod Organizer 2, or anything like that.
  2. I found a solution: I placed the items in his shop, market them as owned by Cliff Briscoe. And that's it, he sells them now. And I want to thank you for the link, it was from that link I was able to find that as a possible solution.
  3. I'm trying to add a few items to Cliff Briscoe sales inventory. I tried following the instructions here http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php?title=Adding_items_to_vendors It isn't working. Here are the steps I've taken. 1. I find and edit his chest called VendorContainerCliffBriscoe, rename it VendorContainerCliffBriscoe2, save as new form. 2. I add the two items to it and added 2000 caps. 3. I place the chest in VendorChestsCell. 4. I double click on it and give it the reference ID VendorChestBurriedCliffBriscoe2REF (since this seems to be the naming convention). 5. I check Persistence. 6. I go to the ownership tab and select CliffBriscoe from the drop down menu. 7. Save mod. 8. Activate mod in my Mod Manager. Load up game, go to the Novac Gift Shop, talk to Briscoe, the items aren't there. What am I doing wrong? I know there is also a way to script these items into an existing Vendor Container, but the instructions look very complicated. I feel like there is just no need to script these items in (unless there is no other way).
  4. Thank you for the links and the effort dubiousintent. I found the problem, and I fixed it. The tl;dr is Uninstall DivX. The long explanation is. The window named “ActiveMovie Window” that kept forcing new vegas to be minimized, while ffdshow video decoder appeared in my tray, are related to each other. And if you shut down ActiveMovie window, it shuts down New Vegas (or whatever program pulled it up). It was something with the DivX update that did something wonky with codecs. The protocol for ffdshow / activemovie window is scripted into the C++ of most, if not all, games written for Direct X. When everything runs smooth, it is a background operation. Unfortunately I had to completely uninstall New Vegas and reinstall it, to rule out mods or corrupt files in the game. But fortunately I backed up the New Vegas folder, and the new vegas folder under my documents/my games, which is where the saves and configuration files are. So I got my game working smooth again, good as new, all my saves and mods right where I left them. What I've learned: Create a restore point in windows, and never update anything LOL. It has been my experience that updating things has done more to break a system than anything else :D
  5. I'm having a really big problem. Fallout New Vegas is crashing constantly. The thing that sets it off is walking towards New Vegas. You know how you can see The Lucky 38 from half the way across the map. If I head north towards it, it crashes the game. The distance I can get to it is approximately where good spring cemetery is. What I mean is, draw a line east to west where the cemetery is, try crossing that line while headed north, game crashes. I can cross that line from the other direction headed south. I can stand on the good springs cemetery, and it's fine, the moment I cross where that “keep out” sign is, that's the distance it takes to crash. I tried using different saves, and I tried restarting my computer, just to get rid of any bugs that might be in memory. Also, I was able to approach the cemetery from the north (headed south) and I walked through where the scorpions were, and I got to the top of the cemetery. I wondered what would happen if I headed back toward north, but didn't turn around. I started walking backward (north) and the moment I crossed that line it crashed. Like I said, imagine an equator line going east to west where good springs cemetery is, cross it headed south, and your fine. Cross it headed north, it's a crash. Spawn well above that line, and I can head north then, no problem. And this happens when I head north from Nell's Shack, or when I spawn in Black Mountain. (all of which is approximately parallel to Good Springs Cemetery.) I can get a little further north if I go around the cemetery, where the cazadors are. But a little past that, it crashes. So it has to be when a certain chunk of long distance terrain is being loaded. Or something like that. Well common sense says if things used to work, and now they don't, what's changed? Well I decided to undo one mod at a time. The game worked a few weeks ago, I've undone mods that go back to 6 months ago. The only new or newish mods I can't fully undo is a hat, clothing, and sunglasses mod, because I merged the textures with my game's data folder. I unchecked the mod so that they won't load, but technically those textures are still floating around in my data folder, even though not on screen and not on my character. What has also changed is: I updated Java (I don't think that has anything to do with FNV) Xvid, and Steam. I don't think there is a way to roll back Steam. However, this Xvid thing. It may have updated ffdshow video decoder. Which pops up in my task bar every time the game crashes, and goes away when I shut down the game. I should mention, when I say “the game crashes”, technically according to task manager, the game is running, and so is a component called active movie window. What happens is, as I walk to an area that is guaranteed to crash the game, my full screen game, for a half second gets a boarder, like a maximized window, and then quickly re-sizes to a small window in my upper left corner, and it's just a rainbow-like color pallet. No sound, no motion. And that's the “active movie window”. I can maximize it, but it's just a motionless, soundless, color pallet. I thought maybe I could check the date and roll back ffdshow video decoder. However, when I go to properties, it says Created, Modified, and Accessed, back in 2013 when I built this computer. So I don't know, maybe it hasn't updated, maybe I don't know what I am looking at, and I have no idea how to roll back codecs and stuff. I'm really upset because I am doing a Lets Play for my YouTube channel. And while I'm only 4 episodes in, I've just done so much editing, I'd really hate to have to completely uninstall this game, start with the vanilla game and slowly introduce all the old mods back in. If you guys need a crash log, tell me how to provide one, and I can crash this game a million times, it is a perfectly repeatable crash. But then again, it might not be technically a crash, the game doesn't actually stop, I have to stop it from task manager.
  6. OK, one method that just dawned on me. Unpack the mod archive. Take only the esp out of the mod folder, place it in the New Vegas data folder. Now the esp can be opened by starting up GECK. Then do the changes needed, save the esp, and put the esp back into the downloaded mod folder, re-compress the folder into an archive, and install the archive with your mod manager like any other manually downloaded mod. That's one way of getting it done. It just dawned on me out of no where that I don't really have to merge all the textures and misc files. But I'm still wondering if there is an easier way. Because even though this works for my needs, I'd hate the think there's still an easier way of doing this.
  7. I've downloaded a few weapons and clothing mods. They come with meshes and textures and all that good stuff. What I want to do is open the esp file and fiddle with the stats. One way I can so this is to manually download the mod and merge with my game's data folder, then it can be opened with GECK. However, I hate doing that because it makes the merge a permanent part of my game, and I want to be able to enable and disable mods on the fly from my Mod Manager. If I double click the esp file, it just opens the GECK, but the esp isn't loaded, there's no active file etc.
  8. Thank you guys very much. The information you guys gave me is pretty much what I thought but I wanted to double check before building my new character. Because when it came to intelligence, I wasn't sure how many points to put in there. I knew I wanted a character who's gimmick was always being a drunk, and it would be a while before getting to Cass and getting her whiskey perk. Wasn't sure whether to stick an extra point of intelligence in there to compensate for the loss of an intelligence point due to drunkenness. So with this confirmation, I can start a new character. Isn't starting a new character with new mods and new Project Nevada settings, and beginning a new journey, always the most exciting part of the game :) Good bye ice cold January, I'm headed to New Vegas for the month :D
  9. The more intelligence you have, the more points you can put into your skills when leveling up. Do temporary modifiers like alcohol and drugs effect this? For example, I'm drunk, that's a -1 intelligence and I happen to level up while under the influence. Also, what about intelligence cybernetic implant or clothing effects (maybe an article of clothing that gives a +1 intelligence).
  10. @YanL I managed to find MS01Lucky8BallAbility that you are referring to. It can't be used under the object effect box, or the script box. Also, even if I found a way to get that working, I don't think it does what I need. According to the description the +1 luck applies just for being in your inventory. With my gun, I want it active only upon equipping. But thanks for trying. @uhmattbravo Yeah I think you're right that it will come down to me having to write a scrip. However, I don't know how to do that. If I am going to start making mods I guess I need to start learning how to write a script. I already found an article on GECK scripting to get me started. Anyhow guys, thanks for the feed back. I was just hoping there was 1 simple little thing I was doing wrong.
  11. I'm trying to make a custom gun that gives you +1 luck when using it. Under Object Effects, I can choose from a list of effects for weapons. No weapon effect script has +1 to any S.P.E.C.I.A.L. So I decided to go look at clothing, since I know glasses and hats can give perception bonuses. Clothing Object Effects do have +1 (and more) to various S.P.E.C.I.A.L. So I thought the way to do this was locate a clothing Object Effect script, change the name and change the category from “apparel” to “weapon”. I tried it, and it worked, sorta. Sure enough I was able to select my custom Object Effect. And in game, when holding the gun, and looking at its description, it says Effects: +1 Luck. However, when looking at my stats, I am not actually getting a +1 to luck on my stats. The only difference I can see between apparel and weapon Object Effect scripts is: on a weapon effect, the “range” gives you only the option for “touch” and on apparel it's “range' only gives you the option for “self”. If I am not being clear, here's a quick video of the problem.
  12. Solved. the blonde rope like stuff, I think it is nothing more than remarkably fine copper strands. the red and green stuff, it appears to be colored wax. the gold waxed wires are the neutral wires. The solution, burn the wires with a cigarette lighter to burn off the plastic, then just reattach the wires to their correct counterpart, make sure only the proper wires touch. I used scotch tape (didn't have electrical tape) and then taped it all together with duck tape for support. the left speaker connection is less than perfect, it sometimes cuts out when I move my head. But it's better than nothing. Next time I will try using solder and dripping candle wax on the wires after I reattach them, to keep the wires from touching the other set of wires, because using tape is sloppy.
  13. My headphone cord broke, and I need to fix it. Here's the problem: the cord is actually two wires (left and right speaker). Each one of those cords has 2 wires inside of it (4 wires total) Now this is where it gets really weird... The first cord has a green and gold wire. The second one has a red and gold wire. I suppose the gold in each case may be copper. Anyhow, I didn't know that the bare wire could be colored. So I took a Flathead screwdriver and tried scraping the paint (and or wax) off of the wire. I don't believe the wax/paint is coming off, it seems to fray the wire into what feels like a blond rope material (like fibers), and red wires. The gold wire also frays into what I believe is gold metal (wire) and blond rope like fibers as well. Do I just connect the 4 wires to their appropriate counterpart from the other end of the headphone cord, or do I need to strip these things down, possibly remove wax etc. To make electrical contact? And I attached a picture to show you what I am talking about
  14. I just acquired a speaker system (with built in amplifier) from my old house. I want to plug it into my digital TV. Problem is, the TV's "Audio Out" is digital, and won't physically accept an analogue audio jack. My TV does have a Headphone Output. Can I plug the speakers into that? I tested with everything off, the jack fits just fine. But would this cause damage to the speakers or TV? If you need more details: I forget at the moment the name of the speaker system, but it has a left and right speaker, with volume and tone control, they plug into a sub-woofer, the sub-woofer plugs into an AC outlet to power it up. So in theory it shouldn't be relying on the TV's output to power it up, the power for amplification comes from the AC outlet. Just looked up the type of speakers I have. Here are the specs: https://www.cnet.com/products/altec-lansing-atp3-speaker-system-for-pc-wired-series/specs/
  15. Thank you :) I got it fixed. I just deleted the contents of those two folders like you said, and the game went back to normal. I took note of those folders in the past, and looked at their content, and it all looked like stuff that belonged in the game, the folders had normal names like iron, steel, studded, elven, dwarven, glass etc. so I left it alone. Also without the custom clothes and the bouncy breasts, I noticed the game also seems to run smoother.
  16. I'm running the standard (not special) edition of skyrim. And I need to uninstall a mod (I install via NMM). I installed the bouncing boobs mod (HDT Physics Extension, Bodyslide, CBBE, compatible clothing mods), and I can't seem to uninstall it. I've tried uninstalling the only clothing and armor mods I can find in my set up (cloaks of skyrim, common clothes, omnisway clothing replacer, opulent outfits, Vanilla outifts bodyslided) I've even tried uninstalling bodyslide, outfit studio, and CBBE. I can't uninstall HDT Physics Extension because then the game crashes. I get the feeling I may have somehow completely erased my vanilla outfits & armor and permanently replaced it all with HDT clothing. Although if I did do that, it was only through bodyslider (I really don't understand what I am doing with that program), because I never manually deleted anything. The only other thing I can think of is reinstalling the game. But this is going to be difficult because a few of the mods I have installed required script editing, and that's a lot of work to redo. Attached is a screen cap of all my mods, and the current state they are in.
