What was your first car and what was your favorite car.
BarefootWarrior replied to kvnchrist's topic in Off-Topic
Wow, talk about bringing back memories. My first car was a 1959 Impala 4 door hardtop, all black, red interior. 283, powerglide. This was in 1971 and I was (gasp) 17 yo. My favorite car was a 1959 Cheverolet Impala convertible. This one was silver, red interior, 348, powerglide trans and a 'Wonderbar radio' that worked and twin antennas on the rear deck. I had two of these, the other was very plain. It was a 59 Cheverolet Byscane convertible ( a very plain version of the Impala for those who may not know.), white, silver interior, rubber floor mats, 235 six with 3-speed over drive and no radio, but had great fun with this one. This turned into my 'go to the lake' or 'go to work' car, didn't have to worry about getting sand and such in the car...lol. To top that off, while I had these two, I got my hands on a 1960 Chev Impala convertible, and it was rare at the time, I just didn't know it then. It was Turquoise Blue, matching interior, white top, 283 with Powerglide, very nice. Oddly, I didn't get attached to this one, there was such a radical change between the 1959 and 1960 models. But, at that time, being young...(1978)...I finally sold them off. I'd give just about anything to have just one of them now. :wallbash: All three were in very nice condition. They all went to good homes though and I felt good about that. To add to this, I bought the Impala convertible for $400 ( in 1973 ), the white one (Byscane) in 1974 for $300, and bought the 1960 for $450 that same year. Try and buy one now, if you can find one. My most memorable car is a 1970 Plymouth GTX. Neon yellow, 440 / 4 barrel and a slap stick four on the floor. Nice but not great condition, had this for almost two years. It had a few miles on it when I bought it, but had not been abused as so many of these had been back then. Sure had no problems getting on the freeway, that's for sure. Don't even ask about gas mileage... Now I drive a.... *sigh never mind. -
Crash upon exiting Sewers
BarefootWarrior replied to DarkXessZ's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Interesting. If I read this right, you have Win7 / 64 bit Ultimate? If so, then Oblivion installed as a 32 bit program, which is fine. But, with Win 7 / 64 bit Ultimate, you should have the 'Virtual XP' option included. If not, you can download it free from MS. I installed Oblivion in the 'Virtual XP' and it runs fine, just like it was in an Win XP environment. have you tried this by chance? Some folks don't know that Win 7 64 bit Ultimate includes the Virtual Win XP, but it is a download. It has been quite handy for me to run older games and applications that I used with XP. -
That is odd. Every time I played that part, and after the fight, Bodahn was right there talking to me. I wonder if you have a bad install and the game just isn't seeing that dialogue. Hate to say it, but sounds like you better do a re-install of the game. If you do, just copy/save your 'saved games' (think that is what it is called, been a while since I played this.) folder and then replace it after the new install and pick up where you left off. Other wise, other parts of the game may be glitched too and you may end up doing this... :wallbash:

Game is Epic
BarefootWarrior replied to Magrus's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Good to have you here. yes, the folks here have helped me out on many occasions. I was very skeptical of this game when it came out as I tried to play TW1 (and have pickled it up again now that I have played TW2). Plus, after the DA2 debacle ( don't get me started on that one) I waited a couple of weeks after it came out. Unlike waiting inline waiting to pick up my pre-ordered DA2 like some kid (least I got some fun out of the damn thing). I was not disappointed. I did have some install issues, but that was resolved and I have enjoyed the heck out of this game. I think the folks at CDProjekt certainly have raised the bar on this genre of game. It isn't perfect, but I doubt that any game will be, but for myself, this is what a great game is all about. Speaking for myself, this is visually the most beautiful game I have ever seen. I enjoy that fact that you have to think about what you are doing and how you work your strategy makes the game play much more interesting. I enjoy playing the game for the storyline and haven't gone beyond the 'normal' level of play unlike some of the hard core players in here. Even so, the fights are not to easy and great fun for the casual player like myself. Is this game 'epic'? I'll hold off on that one for now, at least until Skyrim comes out. I'll bet the folks over at Bethesda have looked this one over closely and know they have some serious competition ahead. So, if you do have any issues, this is the place to come to. -
I need a Silver Sword
BarefootWarrior replied to BarefootWarrior's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher
Thanks tommy, I swear, you must live in here...lol. I'll go take a look and continue on then. As for money, I don't have that much, only 300 orens, sounds like I'd better start scrounging for bucks, eh? Good to know that this will pick up, I could fall asleep at the keyboard if this keeps going on. -
Since I have become addicted to TW2, I thought I'd go back to TW1 and play it through. I started some time ago and never finished it. The reason being it just seems to drag on and on. That being said, I'm trying it again where I left on and now realize I need a silver sword. I think I'm still in act 1, outside of Vizima. Is there a silver sword in act 1 that I can get my hands on or do I have to craft it? If so, where and how because right now, I can't can't find one. I am carrying around a stoopid axe and an old steel sword. I just found the Royal Hunter(?) and am now going on a quest to find a monster by a lake(?) ummm..what lake? All I see is the river on the map. But that is what he told me, ' by the lake'. I just wish we had the options to change armor or other clothing items in this game, but it looks like you get what you get, oh well, I can live with that. I do have the 'enhanced' version. Right now, this is still dragging on and is actually very boring, but I will give it my best and continue on. I hope this game picks up soon. Anyway, suggestions on a silver sword would be appreciated, I really don't want to go to the wikis and spoil the game just yet. (but I am thinking about it. )

WOW...I didn't regard this game as 'short'. I would say that it takes me around 30 hours to get through it, but that is fine with me. I have played through three times, starting a fourth. It is amazing to me how each game is so different from the others and how the endings turn out. In each game I have found something different or see how my choices make a difference in the story line. The first time through I played 'easy' and learned the game, now in 'normal' and will work my way up the ladder ( I hope, that's the plan anyway.) Being a middle aged player, sometimes the fingers don't get the keys fast enough...lol...what can I say? Maybe they will have an expansion pack to this later, we can only hope and add some more stories, that would be great. Love this game...

Other then some XP and winning some money, not really that important. In my case, I never did get the hang of the dice, and lost a heck of a lot more then I won. No more dice for me thanks...lol. I did use the fighting to try and get the hang of the QTE's. I did get better, but I'm just not fast enough on the keyboard to use the chained QTE's, got a couple and it was fun to see what happened.

spoilers Siver Sword?
BarefootWarrior replied to BarefootWarrior's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
I went back and reloaded the fight scene with the dragon, and to my surprise, you can use Philippa's dagger. If a dragon can laugh, this one sure did, not effective at all. I got batted around all over that place. Too funny. -

BarefootWarrior replied to BarefootWarrior's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
You're kidding...how did you manage that? I thought Philippa's dagger was just a quest item (until needed). And It thought I knew how to have fun. LOL! -
spoilers To the temple
BarefootWarrior replied to guesclin's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Don't feel bad, the first time through I found it by accident. I missed the cut scene, and after much frustration, I literally bumped into it after a fight with some soldiers. Oh well...LOL! :whistling: -
spoilers Siver Sword?
BarefootWarrior replied to BarefootWarrior's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
I wondered about this. During the fight (in any of the fights I had during this part) I kept getting the flag 'steel sword not effective against dragon'..or something to that effect, so I would then reload and just use the silver sword. But in the cut scene where Geralt is walking across the roof just before he jumps on, he is always holding the steel sword. So you may be on to something here. Makes sense anyway. I just thought it was odd. This last time, I did both, the 'Addan Deith' silver sword, and then reload and play again using the 'Caerme' steel sword (and still got that flag) even though it seemed to do more damage then the silver sword. Go figure. I used the 'Whet Stone' on both. Since I was not wearing any armor, this was quite challenging, but worth it and I got some great screen shots. Anyway, I agree with your comment and it sounds good to me, thanks! -
spoilers Kayran
BarefootWarrior replied to ferghanmhor's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
When Roche tells you he will distract the guards and merchant comes up to you to talk, he tells you about the trap. In my case (second play through) I didn't talk to him, and the trap was not there, that is, the steel frame. I did not use the trap myself, but the frame should be by a wall down by the guards. Timing is important as you climb down off the platform and then I think you have to jump over a wall (to the right) of the platform(?). It seems to me there was a guard over by a door and I had to be careful not to get caught and there was a short wall close by. Look it up on the Wiki if nothing else. As for the fight with the Kayran, I did not use Quen (as much as I would have liked to.) You will hear Sile' shouting to use Yrden while the fight is going on. And for good reason. It is work and takes a lot of fast keyboard work, but it is a challenge. You should have your silver sword by the way and I used 'Whet stone' with it. I also used the 'Mongoose' potion. As I enjoy a good challenge and I prefer not to use any armor, I did the first play through (easy mode) just in the breeches...great fun and finally got him. Now playing again on 'normal' and thanks to a recent mod, with out the breeches. I saved the Kayran fight for after all the side quests I could do to build up Geralt's strengths and experience. This paid off as I was able to have the time to up grade his equipment and make him as tough as possible. There is a QTE to look for after you get the third tentacle, so be looking for it. have fun, and I think this is certainly one of the best fights in the game, just my opinion. -

BarefootWarrior replied to redneck1st's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Go get the Kayran....have fun (heh) and the rest are all after. 'Where is Triss' is ongoing to the last chapter. NOTE: 'At a crossroads' is a turning point for the story and how it develops. I won't say anything more as I don't want to ruin your first play through. Take your time and do the side quests. In Chapter 1, you can find those on the board outside the Inn. Each Chapter has those. -

spoilers Siver Sword?
BarefootWarrior posted a topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Since this is a possible spoiler I thought it best to put this here. In the last act, when you confront the dragon on the rooftop, I used the silver sword, I got my hands on the 'Addan Deith' silver sword. I also managed to get the items needed to create the 'Caerme' Steel Sword. I had both of these for the battle with the dragon. I had the understanding that a silver sword was needed to kill the dragon, but maybe I am wrong. In the cut scenes as Geralt is walking across the roof and the dragon is coming at him, the cut scene shows him holding the 'Caerme' steel sword, not the 'Addan Deith' silver sword, even though that is what I was using during the fight. I could not figure this out, so I loaded up this part of the game many times and tried the steel sword and then the silver just to see what the cut scenes would show, and this was not easy, that damn dragon smacked me around real good. In all of the cut scenes, the steel sword is shown, not the silver, even if that is what I used. Anyone else noticed this? To go further, I loaded up an old game and tried this. In this instance, I had a 'Superb' Silver sword and a 'Superb' steel sword, can't think of the names off hand, but...the same thing happened. The steel sword was shown in the cut scenes, not the silver. Not once was the silver sword shown in any of the cut scenes. Am I missing something here? I am confused. I thought this was interesting, thought I'd pass this along. :whistling: Maybe this is a bug, have no clue. -

BarefootWarrior replied to drwhimsy's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
It took me forever to get past that first fight in the prison, and then this one...LOL! It is true though, just look straight at the screen and have your fingers on the keys, and don't bother with the mouse. Truth be told, I'm not fast enough for the QTE's even now, I still can't hit the combo moves. Oh well.... *another old timer here -

Just to add to this, just before Roche distracts the guards a merchant approaches you to talk. If you refuse (as I did accidentally ), the steel frame is not there..heh. Imagine my surprise. But as Tommy said above, the trap isn't needed. I'll try this again and load up that part just to see what happens. -
spoilers Morale Booster Needed
BarefootWarrior replied to dragonbird's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
The prologue (while rather long) was an excellent tutorial for me. Since I am not a hard core gamer like some of you, it was very useful for me to learn the system. It was the QTE's that took me a while to get the hang of. Once we got to Flotsam, you are pretty much on your own (my opinion) and as it turned out for me, was still learning on the way. I did my first play through on easy and the next on normal, good as it gets for me, I'm simply not that fast on the ol' keyboard. I did not think this game was linear as such, and enjoyed that aspect very much and it just gets better as you go. What I liked was that I had to think things through, figure out my strategy and find my strengths. I focused on sword skills and used mainly Quen, Aard, and Yrden. I did not use much in the way of potions during the entire game. I did use the Harpy traps later on in one of the quests and that was interesting. What I did do was focus on the best weapons I could get my hands on and relied on them instead of anything else. For myself, I did not use any armor in any of my games, made it much more interesting and challenging, but that's just me. That being said, I think you will find the game much more interesting as you progress, so I hope you will keep with it. I just finished my third play through and am amazed at how my choices, decisions change the entire game and what happens at the end. I am still trying to get through Witcher 1, but am determined to get through it, just seems so slow to me I get bored. But to be honest, there was quite a bit of this... :wallbash: LOL...and I'd just keep at it. Love this game. -
Kayran QTE
BarefootWarrior replied to oldman31's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
This happened to me to and I didn't know anything about using the 'space' bar. I fell off the Kayran's tentacle and just kept on fighting. On my first game, I never did understand the QTE and was picked up by the tentacle and not knowing what to do ( I didn't understand the QTE thing) I just fell off, even so, I just kept on fighting and finished the fight. So I don't think this will keep you from finishing this part of the game, just keep at it. Might take a while, but it is a good fight. But for a while I was doing this.... :wallbash: LOL...keep at it. -
No wonder he's grumpy...never have seen him smile in the game, now we know why.

You could be on to something here, I do know I am pushing my video card pretty hard with this game. I am using a GeForce GTS 250 and it may be taking up a lot of resources while playing. I did back off on the settings though, but I'll look into this further. Thanks for the info. (formerly known as 'naked blade)
