I would say not so much as from an update but i too experienced the black screen of death SINCE LAUNCH and only until i custom built a rig (not all that better than the laptop i originally installed skyrim on) i was only able to play a total of 2 hours for the first 2 weeks but now will a fresh system the same exact game installed from disk works 100% no problems no black screen CTD or anything of the sort and have since logged approx 20 hours so i will list my previous parts of my old rig to the new and maybe it will help or provide some insight i too still think its a game issue and not a hardware issue but.... OLD RIG intel i-7 3.0 processor AMD 5660 series graphics card 4 gb of ram windows 7 64bit New rig AMD phenom II X6 processor NVidia geforce gt 560 4gb ram windows 7 64bit all else is the same oh and the temps are right about the same as far as i can tell i will continue to experiment with the old rig to really see the differences and hopefully find a new solution... so with that said all it took is a completely new rig for the game to work properly....good job bethseda awesome testing you guys have done...

i also have the black screen of death anybody have any word of this so called patch for pc because all i see and hear is that betheda is working on the xbox version and ps3 version and there is nothing on whether or not they are working or even acknowledge that their pc version is totally screwed...

im getting the same exact issue my man i cant even play the game after initial install it worked up until getting out of the dungeon and then it would lock up and cut to a black screen and my computer becomes unresponsive all of my drivers are up to date and its not the sound because i have tried it although i know its not the problem because on a few instances it would lock up but sound would still be playing and then it would cut to black then sound would go out and i have to force reboot any word on a pc patch any time soon this is pretty lazy of betheda i mean there is a certain amount of bugs to be expected but for a vast majority of player not able to play such as myself and others under 20 min at a time its almost like they didnt even play test it on multiple rigs even the xbox and ps3 versions i know xbox in particular is having quite a few problems well here is my specs Win 7 ATI Radeon 5670 4GB ram intel i5 2.0 processor
