  1. Hi everybody! I really hope someone can help me with my problem. What happened? FOMM started smooth and gently until yesterday. Yesterday I opened the Package Manager in order to edit some mod descriptions. While I was working the whole programm get stucked suddenly and after a while I forced the programm to close because nothing more happened except for that boring hour glass. Tried to re-start FOMM but only got (and now always getting) an error message called Scan Error ("An error occurred while scanning your fomods for new versions. As long as it wasn't to bad, a crash dump will have been saved in...."). I've also re-installed FOMM in different versions but it doesn't work. I'll try to uninstall all mods, FOMM, FOSE so maybe this will work but I'd be glad if someone has some other ideas... Before that happened everything was fine and FO3 was running with all the mods. Now I can't even play ignoring FOMM and start FO3 with the vanilla FO3.exe... Maybe anyone out there can give me some advise please??? Enclosed you'll find a copy of the crashdump.txt: Mittwoch, 12. Oktober 2011 - 15:50:50 Fomm 0.13.21 OS version: Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 SevenZip.SevenZipArchiveException: Invalid archive: open/read error! Is it encrypted and a wrong password was provided? If your archive is an exotic one, it is possible that SevenZipSharp has no signature for its format and thus decided it is TAR by mistake. bei SevenZip.SevenZipBase.ThrowException(SevenZipBase handler, Exception[] e) bei SevenZip.SevenZipExtractor.OpenArchive(IInStream archiveStream, ArchiveOpenCallback openCallback) bei SevenZip.SevenZipExtractor.GetArchiveInfo(Boolean disposeStream) bei SevenZip.SevenZipExtractor.get_IsSolid() bei Fomm.PackageManager.Archive.LoadFileIndices() bei Fomm.PackageManager.Archive..ctor(String p_strPath) bei Fomm.PackageManager.fomod..ctor(String path, Boolean p_booUseCache) bei Fomm.PackageManager.Upgrade.UpgradeScanner.Scan() bei Fomm.Program.Main(String[] args) Thanks for your patience to read this and for your help!!!
  2. I slowly get used to posting in this forum.

Nice place to be with very exciting people / opinions floating around.

  3. Thank you for your kind greeting words!
  4. Really great postings and analysis about the economic downturn and govermental failures in the "Should people without health insurance, etc. be allowed to die?" topic. Of course a little bit off-topic ;o).

But nevertheless it's really good to know that there are people in other countries of the world, which think the way I used to!

  5. You are probably not going to change my mind if that's what you mean. But I leave open the possibility because only robots and animals can't change their minds, and I am neither. But if you really are saying that a guy that is too dumb to get a job that pays well enough to support the lifestyle he feels he deserves should have that lifestyle paid for by someone who is not so dumb, I guess I would say I am somewhat intrigued and would like to hear your justification of that position. Nope I neither said that someone should pay one's lifestyle HE FEELS HE DESERVES nor I would change your mind (cos I'm not a priest and everyone's free to stand to his / her opinion :) )! What I wanted to say is that imho there must be a social net / welfare which allows people to live without starving, which grants a margin of subsistence. Never mentioned that I'll support the idea of paying those people a vacation trip to Florida or a new Benz ! But if I got your argument right you're even against this kind of measure [margin of subsistence] so that's why I got the feeling a discussion probably ends up in nowhere. Because that'd be very opposed opinions, wouldn't they?
  6. Yep, you're right... IF you have the mental and intellectual capacity! If you're not in the positon to gain an well-educatet level for whatever reason it'll be very hard to gain an "easy" job after your former job is transferred to China. Problem is our society changes from coal-and-steel industry to knowledge economy. And this change spares out lots of the formerly laboring classes due to lacks in education / intellectual capacity etc.! Sorry, I'm going off-topic, but maybe you'll regard this point in your considerations. I agree completely, but if you grant that I am not responsible for people making bad decisions, I am surely not responsible for someone just being dumb. The very idea that a stupid person has a right to a certain standard of living, involuntarily subsidized by those less stupid, quite literally makes me want to puke. Granted, but as I said a post before, it's all depends on your political point of view and your self-made experiences. Since my opinion differs extremly from yours a further discussion probably lead to nowhere...

  8. I think there is another ethical issue worth thinking about here. Using your example of disabled peoples: some are likely in the conditions they are in through no fault of their own. They are the victims of nature, or bad luck, or something else. But others may be at fault. I think we have a moral obligation to aid members of our society who need help because they were unable to help themselves, but what right does any individual have to demand that sort of treatment from society when they chose to engage in behavior which they should have known better than to be a part of? I think that there is no ethical obligation to provide support for such people. In fact, I think it is unethical for such people to place that burden on society. An easy example of what Im talking about if the above is unclear would be someone who chooses to do drugs, smoke, or drink heavily even though there is plenty of evidence to show the consequences of engaging in that sort of stuff, and even though there are plenty of organizations which help people to stay or get away from those sorts of things, they demand that society shoulder the burden of treating their ailments. There are other examples, but this one is an easy and obvious one. I get the point of your argumentation and in general I do also believe that every single human being is responsible for his action. I've got the similiar feeling deep down below in my stomach sometimes that it can't be fair I pay for people which have deliberately choosen a noxious way of lifestyle. But then my mind consistently rembers me that I live in a solidary community with all it's advantages and disadvantages... And that's why I feel like I described above. From my own job experience I'm aware there are too many circumstances why someone's getting addiccted to some kind of above mentioned stuff (e.g. burn-out, depressions, stress.....) and most of this people are stucked in a circle they can't break through without professional help. And that's the problem I see... of course, professional help cost lots of bucks, but how should many of these people been able to afford the payment when the system or the community denies help?.... If you think it further you can also cut off people from welfare when they're unemployed and refuse to take a job which earnings are far worsened compareable to their formerly ones. And I bet there are many more examples where you can cut off payments when you think this way. Anyway it's humans nature not to be perfect. And I don't want to live in a society where everyone stands alone, struggels alone and where every wrong decision in one's life comprised the possibility to end up in a dead end. But I admit the answer for this question depends on everyones first hand experience and your political point of views. So it is very likely that we can discuss this thing until the cows come home...
  9. :pinch: Living in Germany, I'm well aware the political systems in Europe (especially in Germany) and the US and political point of views differ materially. But leaving all politics aside and just looking on the ethic and human side of this I'm feeling very uncomfortable that there are people who really cheering about letting a HUMAN BEING die - theorethetically -!!! Sorry, but I can't get the point of this argument... if you think this through, a life / human being will become nothing more than a statistic, a number which will be measured against all kinds of other statistics. Just to remember: This is not a financal balance sheet in a yearly report of a big company where you set expenditures off against income. We're talking about real lifes!!!! So what would be the next step??? Humiliate all disabled people because they are burden the health system without paying anything into it??? No way, that I can tolerate or accept this!!!!! Beside this I guess it would be against international laws like the UN Universal Declaration Of Human Rights [A/RES/217, UN-Doc. 217/A-(III)] (look right here: http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/) which was also signed by the USA December 12th, 1948! But what fears me most is the fact that the Tea Party obviously has many supporters which gives me a feeling of unease for the upcomming pesidential elections.....
  10. Thank you very much for this kind offer... I'll have it in mind, if I should face any problems I can not solve
  11. I think New York City would be great. Just think about a ruined Manhattan Island where you can climb the ruined "Top of the Rocks" at the Rockefeller Center just to savor the look-around-view over Manhattan. And fighting between / in skyscrapers would be marvellous. Otherwise, Montreal / whole Canade would be a good place to play, because the game could play at more natural sides (e.g forests; like mentioned before). Why Montreal? I think it would be a perfect city for both playing over- and underground because the city has the well-known Underground City / Ville Souterraine so combining over- and underground playing would be very simple. Furthermore Beth's designer can create a really creepy feeling in the underground with ghoul enclaves and so on.... :ohdear:

    Cheers

Hey there! I'm the newbie around here and just want to say hello. So... hello! First of all, I must say that it's really fascinating how many people are spending their free time to elevate a great game an such higher levels. I'd always wonder, why the heck I should use mods. But after I saw a video on Youtube, which differed materially from my in-game graphics, I became aware that there must be tweaks to make a really good game even better. So I landed up here and as I sad before, I'm really impressed, with how much passion and endurance people making vanilla games even more worthwhile. Thanks to all you people to make my FO3 game lightyears more intense und much more realistic! Keep up the good work! Best regards
