  1. Update - followed bben46's suggestion of stripping down the entire system, cleaning and re assembly. While nothing was found to be loose or dirty things seem to be running smoothly upon restart- 3 hours and counting and no system failure - hooray! I did discover my earlier system restore had not been successful but I have since been able to restore the system using system image from 7th Oct.Windows then wanted to download and install 17 'urgent' updates - which I allowed, followed that up with a reboot.Since then all has been running smoothly.Even managed an hour of crash free Skyrim before exiting normally - max possible yesterday was 20 minutes. About GPU drivers - my card is an Asus so I have been using the catalyst control center to check for updates - currently up to date.I got caught by the Steam driver update option a month ago or so and vowed never to do that again. Also using the Asus AI Suite to monitor cycles, temps and fan speeds.Using Asus GPU Tweak to monitor GPU. Most of the gear I have been buying and using is OEM so warranties are very limited but most items are still under warranty at the current time. When investigating the error codes online the most common suggestion seemed to point to the PSU - currently using an 850 w unit. Overall the action which had the most benefit seemed to be the strip down, clean and rebuild.Perhaps it is possible that the Windows updates carried out in the past week had been un successful. I will follow up on the OCCT link and check it out. Thank you for the advice folks,I appreciate the assistance.
  2. MrTanen - try saving your game to a new slot (manual save not quick save) and reloading the new save(manual load not quick load). The Imaginator helper should now have full dialogue options. It sounds like you are suffering the dialogue bug that came as part of the latest official game update. For reference I use both Convenient Horses and Imaginator with no problems other than the 'official dialogue bug' - save and reload reliably fixes that though.
  3. I think using the disable command in the console will also work to remove unwanted items including NPCs - what disable will not do however is remove any associated scripts attached to NPC or object. The safest long term solution would be to edit the plug in with the Creation Kit as Georgiegril has suggested.
  4. Update - experienced another crash at 12:30 - 20 minutes ago,was able to restart in safe mode so I could investigate the Event Viewer - lots of error codes to google.I was able to save the contents of the admin event window to file so I have it for reference. No BSOD though. bben46 - I think I have the cleaning covered - took the case outside yesterday removed side panels and spend a good 10 mins with an air line (15 psi) blowing dust out from every angle. This is also something I do every fortnight and there was not a lot of dust to remove.I have not tried to strip down and clean contacts but I do have the appropriate equipment to do so if needed - none of the components have been in place for longer than 3 months however ie they are all new.Motherboard has GPU and 4 RAM sticks - no other boards or attachments other than required wiring components. Edit - just checked your troubleshooting blog - How to clean a Computer - my keyboard did suffer a drenching with unsweetened tea last week but it is functional - no sticking keys - perhaps it could do with a wash. Briefly here are a few of the error codes - going to google them next; WMI 10 Service Control Manager 7001 DistributedCOM 10005 Winint 11 Kernel-EventTracing 3 There are heaps more but not sure if posting limited details like this is of much help in diagnosis. Edit 2 ; two more crashes since last update.Tried a system restore using a back up made on the 7th oct and system crashed again within 10 minutes of rebooting.I am guessing that rules out anything software related. Going to strip the system down, check contacts and rebuild. Any suggestions to help narrow down hardware problems?
  5. Aliera Caine - I keep Task Manager on task bar and it is one of the first things I check when things go wrong - I haven't spotted any thing out of the ordinary yet but I shall keep a closer eye on it.No new programs installed for a couple of weeks. The only new content on my system would be the Hearthfires download and perhaps a couple of dozen mod files downloaded and placed in an internal HDD (from Nexus - I don't get mods any where else). Not forgetting some windows updates as they become available. There is a BIOS update available for my motherboard but I have not upgraded. blove - no other tabs open on other sites at the time of crashes. Thanks for the suggestions - I shall see how the system behaves today....
  6. Thank you for the link jim_uk - settings adjusted, now to wait for a crash. Perhaps I ought to see about getting this thread moved to Hardware and Software Discussion Forum.
  7. Georiegril - complete computer crash - everything powers down. Unfortunately the crashing seems to persist although not while viewing online content so far.I thought it may be hardware related, specifically an older HDD on my system but have just ruled that out by having another crash an hour after disconnecting it.However these last crashes the system has been rebooting itself and giving me the option to restart in safe mode - checking the fault reports in safe mode has given me a vast amount of error messages from the last two days so I am contemplating rolling back to one of my weekly system back ups. This crashing has only started happening in the last 48 hours - I'm up to six so far.The last two while playing Skyrim. Something else I have not seen before - when viewing installed programs in the add/remove programs window quite a number of installed progs have the option to repair when they are highlighted. Edit - having reviewed some threads in Hardware and Software Discussion I felt I should provide some more info to help narrow down the cause of the problems. PSU - G7 Modular Power Extreme 850 w CPU is cooled by an Artic Cooler fan Freezer 13 Pro - CPU Temp is low and stays low- currently 21.0 deg C at near zero load. The entire system lives in an unheated room - currently 12 deg C. Chassis fans - 2 x 3" and 2 x 4" Processor: intel i5-2500K CPU 3.30 GHz Memory: 2 x 128 GB SSD Crucial M4 using Sata 3 RAM - 16.0 GB DDR3 - 4 x Corsair XMS 3 Motherboard: Asus P8 Z77-M PRO current temp 13.0 deg C Graphics Card:: Asus HD 7950 Top - I have come across some negative reviews for this item after purchase,I'm hoping this isn't the problem. Some but not all units have a badly fitted heat sink leading to overheating - haven't noticed mine overheat though. Monitor : Samsung Syncmaster T240 24" OS - Win7 64 - installed one SSD No separate sound card - no room as GPU uses 3 expansion slots All gaming apps are installed on a separate SSD to the OS - both SSDs are about half full Mother board and CPU purchased as an OC bundle - haven't adjusted the clocking . Everything but the monitor is less than 4 months old.
  8. So far so good - nothing nasty showed up in scanning.Used ClamWin having first updated it's data base. Cleared FF cache and running in no add on mode although the only add on I have as far as I know is DownThemAll. Edit - I just had a comment box open on a mod page for 10 mins with no problems.Would seem to indicate a FF cache problem. Thanks for the assistance folks. Edit 2 - plugs enabled and all is well, needless to say I feel somewhat foolish about now.
  9. Thanks guys - about to start a virus scan now. Just to be clear - not holding anybody responsible, simply trying to get to the bottom of this as it has to be something to do with my PC and there are folks around here with far more knowledge and experience than I!
  10. I have no idea where the source for this problem lies but I thought I would ask here if any one else has been having trouble. I have just experienced my third system crash while making a comment on a mod page.Posting comments from the Forums works just fine but spending say more than five minutes composing a comment on a mod page * at which point my PC experienced a system crash* - no warning message and no apparent cause when I review my View Reliability History from the control panel.I can post one or two line comments from the mod page but any more than that then I seem to have problems.Just prior to the third crash I got a "You must be signed in to post a comment" message - while I was signed in. First crash was yesterday and there have been two today. On each occasion I have had to reboot my PC - no self recovery. The only time I have had similar behavior from my PC is when the mains power supply is interrupted which happens now and again - rural N Devon. Does this sound familiar to any one - any ideas where I should look for a fix? My forum profile contains full system specs.Running Win7.Firefox Web Browser. * edited for calrity
  11. It's a minor thing but why did Beth decide to give goats cow horns in their inventories upon death. The inventory image clearly shows cow/ox horn. The lighting objects in game are clearly made from ox/cow horn yet the decision was made to call it goat horn. Why not give cows cow-horn in their inventory? If there were perceived issues with asking players to kill domesticated cows then why not add wild cattle to the game, they would fit perfectly lore wise since domesticated cattle are descended from wild stock. For reference I come from a farming background and for 25 yrs have been a manufacturing artist working with among many other materials ox horn.Trying to make traditional crafted horn objects with goat horns is a non starter - different shape and wrong consistency.
  12. To fix glowing eyes bug; Open console in game and type; player.addspell f71d1 ; Drauger Abilities Hit enter and close console, open console again and type; player.removespell f71d1 ; Drauger Abilities Hit enter again and close console - no more glowy eyes. You can leave out anything typed after the semi colon - just left that in so you can see what it is the code controls. This happens so frequently to me that I have the two lines of code saved as two separate text files (one line in each) in my Skyrim folder named eyea and eyeb and run as bat files.
  13. Aliera Cane - that is the first time I have seen any practical way to debloat saves - saving your post as a text file in case I need to use the technique at a later date.Thank you.
  14. For those that stumble upon this thread looking for answers in the future - the default install of Skyrim Community Uncapper sets an upper limit on all skills at 199,any experience earned in a particular skill above 199 will cause the stats for that skill to display in red on the stats screen. The solution (if users want to progress a skill beyond 199) is to edit the [skillFormulaCap] in the SKSE_Elys_Uncapper.ini.
  15. I think it depends on SkyUI version Ankh - I have no .esp for it and couldn't find one for it in my downloads drive.
  16. Because Sky UI has no .esp the only way to revert to vanilla UI would be to remove the files that SkyUI installs. Open the archive you downloaded to see which files you need to move. Once you have done it a couple of times switching the files in and out wouldn't take very long at the beginning of a play session if you really want to play with the default UI.
  17. What you need to do is disable region borders by editing Skyrim.ini in your documents folder - the same place that your game saves are stored. Open Skyrim.ini with notepad or similar text editor and add the following line in the [General] section; bBorderRegionsEnabled=0 Then save the newly edited ini and enjoy exploring the 'forbidden' areas - not a great deal to see though, just endless landscape - go far enough and you can fall off the edge of the world.
  18. Open the console and type; help clay or help "quarried stone" (note single words do not need quotation marks around them, multiple words do need quotation marks around them to allow the search to work properly). Note 2 if you ever need to scroll through results from a console search use the page up/page down keys. You should see the codes for [misc] items, these will be the codes in your game. Then use the player.additem commands with them.
  19. AppData is by default a hidden file in a standard win7 install, you have to go to Folder Options through Control Panel to un hide normally hidden files. Go to Folder Options, click the advanced tab and you will see settings for "Hidden Files and Folders". Edit;Use this setting at your own discretion - it is only too easy to bork your system if you do not know what you are doing.
  20. Currently I do not have Hearthfire installed on my game drive, however - locate (in the Skyrim Folder); SkyrimEditor.ini at the bottom of the section headed [General] add the following line; bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1 at the bottom of the section headed [Archive] make sure the last line reads as follows; SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa , HearthFires.bsa If that still does not work for you then I do not know what to suggest.
  21. I suppose technically it's auto move depending upon whether you have walk or run toggled with caps lock. I have found an annoying quirk (well bugs me anyway) - if you inadvertently hit caps lock while in a conversation menu or container menu it reverses the functionality of caps lock,ie By default caps lock off = run caps lock on = walk after accidentally hitting caps lock (during conversation 'cut scene' for ex) ends up with caps lock off = walk caps lock on = run To get it back to normal initiate a conversation and hit caps lock once. It can also be corrected in SkyrimPrefs.ini ; bAlwaysRunByDefault=1 1=run 0=walk
  22. One way this has worked for me in the past is to construct a building using individual components in Nifskope, starting with the largest mesh and copy/pasting meshes from other nifs. What you end up with is a single mesh that can be scaled at will in the CK once it has been imported to the CK.The only downside is that it is a bit time consuming in Nifskope.
  23. Not at all,if you just wantHF to load in CK (just to have a look around, editing is not recommended yet) add HearthFires.bsa to the editor.ini so it looks like this; SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa , HearthFires.bsa
