  1. I wouldn't count on it (not smoothly, at least). That's not much VRAM for such a high resolution, and I doubt Skyrim's lowest settings will be as easy to run as older games'. It's only a $30 dollar card; would it be absolutely impossible to upgrade? EDIT: Wait, do you have the passive version, or the 1GB version with a fan? 1GB is easily enough VRAM, but it's still DDR3 at only a 500Mhz core. Your chances aren't great for smooth gameplay, but much better with the $40 version compared to the passive version.
  2. On second thought, I just remembered that the warrior tree has some beheading, and I also recall locational blood splatter from the gameplay videos. That means there must already be some kind of precise hit tracking and damage system depending on where you're hit. If the modders (better modders than me) can adapt that, maybe locational damage won't be so hard to get after all. I understand the health regen now; that might not be so simple. It's still probably possible based on what we know about Oblivion.
  3. Better than the 550 ti? :o Youtube people lied to me... Plus, I play at 1440x900 resolution (because it's my monitor's native pixel count), so yay! I doubt I'll have problems with a lack of VRAM! I promise, this is the last bump. I'll let the official thread take over. It just seemed odd to not respond to such helpful information.
  4. I remember assassinating all the anti-beast race racists in Oblivion... And freeing all the slaves in Morrowind. I also remember killing all the ghoul haters in Fallout 3. Good times. I personally hope they include racism. It adds emotional investment to the game, makes the world seem more real, and gives you a stock of bigots to assassinate as a sort of 'independent assassination contract'.
  5. I'll probably outsource my music: Grooveshark running in the background should let me play all kinds of medieval music, plus it gets rid of the battle alert. If I do play without music though, I'll be turning the footstep volume way up so that I can realistically hear people sneaking up on me.
  6. Healing over time, but no health regeneration seems as simple as turning health regen waaaaay down so it's just very slow. Similarly, longer sprinting and realistic health limits should be straightforward. It'll probably be just as easy as using the console to change your stats, but we don't know for sure what's available to change. In Morrowind or Oblivion, however, those items would be very easy to mod. The need to eat and drink, however, would be extremely tricky to get working. I wouldn't even know how to begin with that, but it would almost certainly require a script extender. Nevertheless, I'm sure that somebody will figure out how to do this. Both Morrowind and Oblivion had many hardcore mods or hunger/thirst mods, so unless there's a massive change, we'll probably see some of these types of mods a couple months after release. Locational damage, I wouldn't get your hopes up for. I'm not certain that it would even be possible to mod, unless Skyrim already has something in place to build off of.
  7. I assumed it'd be something like this, but I'm happy to have somewhat of a confirmation. The 550 is quite a bit better though... but it should be fine. Thanks for the answers. It's nice to hear that I still ended up getting something better than a 'modern' console, I was a bit worried that I spent $130 on a throwaway card.
  8. I'm sorry that this isn't in the approved post, but it's disappeared from the front pages and nobody answers anything on it anymore. Sorry if this needs to be locked... :( I just bought a Galaxy GeForce 460 gtx, with 768MB VRAM. It's the GC version (factory overclocked). Here are the specs: VRAM: 768MB GPU clock: 700Mhz Processor Clock: 1400Mhz Memory Clock: 1848Mhz Memory Interface: 192 bit It's supposed to run Bad Company 2 well on high settings, as a comparison. How well (guesstimation) do you think it will run Skyrim? Is it more powerful than a PS3 or 360's graphics processor?
  9. You know when you walk up to a door within a dungeon, and you click the open button, and it swings open without your character doing anything? That's really going to break immersion. Would it be possible do you think to make some kind of 'push door open' animation to activate whenever you click a door? Even if it's just playing the destruction spell animation with your hand outstretched (like for the flamethrower spell) but with no magic effect, it'd still really help immersion. Honestly I don't care what animation plays as long as it looks capable of opening the door. Kick move? Go for it. Punching the door open with weapon or shield still in-hand? It's better than nothing.
  10. I'll do this for sure, as soon as I get Skyrim (which will hopefully be release day, depends on if my pc upgrades go as planned (yes, I'm upgrading just for Skyrim)) But yeah, I like to write in 1st person and I had some success with this in the modded Oblivion journal already, so I'm in.
  11. Assuming everything else on my pc hits recommended requirements (recommended, not required, mind), will an EVGA gtx460 1GB DDR5 graphics card run Skyrim easily? Basically I just want it to look better and play more smoothly than a PS3 or 360. Will the gtx 460 do this? I'm looking for a card for an upgrade that must be $200 or less, and the gtx 460 is the best value so far... EDIT: Ooo. I just saw that like half the people on this thread are using the gtx 460 1GB. Okay, it must be expected to run decently then... DoubleEdit: Wait! Which is better; EVGA gtx 460, or Sapphire Radeon HD 5770?
