  1. Akaviri Kojima (NOT Extended), location of download?

Yeah, Akaviri Kojima is an awesome mod. It was on TESNexus but not available now. Keilenai is the famous modder and I think she was contributing to the Silgrad Tower mod project - at least I am sure they were using some of her superb Akaviri work (with her permission).

I found the latest beta version 7.5 of Akaviri Kojima is here. Click the Telecharger link at bottom, to download it. Screenshots are here.

However, many of those Akaviri ideas and concepts are beautifully rendered in the mods by Lady Li. I heartily recommend: Akaviri Stronghold and Marketcity Addon. It adds a cute little island fortress near the Anvil harbor, with lots of NPCs and interesting secrets. There is another re-uploaded version here, though I haven't tried it yet.

    The link still works. :)

  2. @ David: As a mod user (having no published mods of my own) it always occurred to me that downloading and using mods was at the expense of my own risk. However, I understand your frustration and intentions. I have always appreciated well-made mods by talented modders and how they can enrich my gaming experience.

Let me just say that I like the direction this thread is going and I think best practices for modding games should be discussed and encouraged. Then maybe in the end, there would be some consensus within the community with how to implement such ideas.

  3. ...Oblivion used to have the duplicate glitch with arrows that made the game a lot of fun, now its gone and im stuck with the unfun scroll glitch... I wouldnt have known what the arrow glitch was like if I hadnt bought it when I did.

Lol, you can always mod it to get your nostalgic glitch back.

I think my perspective with how to wait a bit when getting newer games has been heavily influenced with my experience with Oblivion. I see more benefits when waiting like saving money, more bugs fixed, more mods, more documentation... most of these already mentioned from the posts above.

I'm still a bit undecided on getting Skyrim though, I'm not much a fan of Steam. But that's just me. Maybe, I might cave in. :P

  4. I'm holding off getting Skyrim myself, until at least when the construction kit is out and/or most of the bugs have been squashed. I'm still playing mostly Oblivion right now and some Mount & Blade: Warband on the side. I'm also trying to learn Blender and be able to make my own mods in the future.
  5. - quote evenstargw:

"...a teensy little difference that might be the cause. Apparently, Neo's textures are saved in a 3D format with only one layer, instead of a 2D one."

Proposed solution: (Maybe this helps samadchaz)

    - quote: "So just open every normalmap ( xxx_n.dds-texture) in the directories for Textures/Neovinci, Textures/Armors/SG and save them again as DXT5 compressed, with MIPmaps ofcourse."

Yup, this assessment is spot on. It seems neovinci saved the normal maps (*_n.dds files) as volumetric textures (3D) instead of planar textures (2D).

It seems that DDSopt cannot run in WinXP and requires Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 according to the author.

    Glad I could help. :)

  6. Nothing seemingly weird in Nifskope. However, in-game, I noticed that when I adjusted my Texture Size setting from large to medium or small, the neovinci armor (Aayla Secura) retained all the sharp details while other textures became less detailed, though I can't replicate the weird shading that you're having. I suspect that neovinci may have saved his textures without mipmaps and/or the wrong DDS format. Using DDSopt on the neovinci textures may correct this.
  7. lol sorry I missed those. :pinch:

I'm trying to download a neovinci armor so I can check it in Nifskope but it seems the servers are getting pounded at the moment.

/shakes fist at Skyrim mod downloaders

  8. Here's something to get you started with modding your Oblivion game if you only want to update the graphics --> Oblivion the Beautiful thread at the official Bethsoft forums. There is no magical all-in-one package to get though. You'll just have to rely on the collective knowledge and good graces of the modding community.

You'll have to get your hands dirty like the rest of us if you really want to bring out the best of your Oblivion game. Welcome and enjoy. :)

    P.S.

Learn to Wrye Bash. (I can't emphasize this enough.) It's gonna be your lifesaver when it comes to modding Oblivion. :D

And by the way, I think your analogy with Linux is correct in a way. Modding your game doesn't require that much technical skills as building your own distro though.

  9. Apparently, you are not the only one with this problem. It has been mentioned a number of times in the mod's thread though it hasn't really been addressed by the mod's author since he's not active anymore.

I suggest you go read through the mod's comment thread if you want to learn more about it.
