I am just a noobie who likes to test these mods for the fun of it Its a shame that Steam want's to do this now .I don't think its a good charging mods it would cause a problem because I have to pay for a mod that is $30 it better work or other wise I would demand to have my money back.

My opinion is that modders who sell their work, should no longer calling themself as a Modder. If Mods going to sold -> nothing other as free subcontractors for the big companys for their games.

For sure its hard working and hobby, both... for the most.

Many people won't donate, others do but ask everyone for yourself as Modder, why doing this? As favourite hobby, for the communitys, cause you like games from a specific company? To earn money? But everyone is free to go his/her own way.

For myself i've no problem to do something, maybe its not much like like others do, only translate some english Mods or donate few next time too...

For nexus and other many other people goes wrong now but ill appreciate this site here and hope after a time a solution will found for all. I don't like valve with their "eat and die" politism.

But its a huge topic like how to pay the webserver and infrastructure, develop new features, difference between work and hobby, do for free or earn money and so on....

Beware that too much capitalism prevents innovation, ideas and communication. As example books and music with strange laws and copyrights. And if i got no wrong information first Dmca trouble's on the way...

English is not my native one, sorry ~

Even with negative press at the launch of the program, even if it only ends up with mediocre "sales", this is nearly cost-free revenue for any publisher and there's not a chance that it will be passed by. Publishers are going to start pressing developers to release mod resource kits with built in DRM / publishing restrictions to tie them to Marketplace (or Origin or Uplay or whatever future services start offering similar options).

The thing that bugs me most is the constant, naive insistence that this "won't change anything". Because it will. It absolutely will. People spouted the same naivety about things like custom maps and skins in FPS games, and look at the state of that genre today. DLC, DLC, DLC, call us next year for your annual paid update.

Nobody should support this its the tolling of the death bells for modding , my work is free for people will always be free and if nexus continues to support this by recieving a cut (and at least makes a stand against it) all my nexus stuff will be removed and i will just open my own site and host my stuff there.

Dont allow big business to destroy another of our pleasures

I always preferred Oblivion over Skyrim. I played Oblivion 6 times due to the large number of TCs and game changing mods but I played Skyrim only once, which was actually Falskaar.

Oblivion is still DRM free and most us have it on a physical disk, so MAYBE modders could just ditch Skyrim and stick with Oblivion.

Team modders 1, team G&B 0

But again, if I'm going to boycott mods from authors who sell out to Steam, I can't be a hypocrite and use their Oblivion mods, either.

You do know the definition of boycott, right? It is an important weapon in the hands of a customer (or group of customers) because it has the potential of hurting the seller in question, by reducing the amount of sales thereby reducing revenue. That is why a boycott can pressure a company into changing their ways.

You can't boycott something that is available for free. Or, well, you can, but it's completely pointless because the author won't care. The vast majority of them are not in this for the popularity or fame and losing a few endorsements will not hurt them at all. The whole notion is absurd.

Besides, Oblivion was a horrible game, go Morrowind :P (tounge-in-cheek on this last part, obviously)

Nah... Beth knew it, mods give new life for their underdeveloped games (so many patches, so many bugs...). So what's they do? TESO doesn't give so much money that they expected (as Blizzard's WoW) so... this is why we see this :) (its their own fault, give so much potential to Zenimax...but it's my personal opinion.)

If someone want to money for self created mods, then he/she create thier own site -> problem solved.

But Beth and Valve want money. I don't mind when 90% from selling going to author's mod (hey, its their own time and work) but i have when it's look like this.

Beth show us that they don't respect players. For me OK, i can play in games which studio's properly treats their customers. For example CD Projekt "Witcher" series.

I wait month and will watch what's happens. If it will going end like "money, money, money" then i will never buy any future game from Beth and i propose the same to you guys.

Cheers :)

sorry for my eng.

As stated in the OP, Dark0ne wants to keep the Nexus free. While this doesn't directly impact your shares idea, it's worth keeping in mind. The main issue is that mods are a copyright nightmare. Having a public company hosting these mods simply wouldn't work, as the mods themselves are meant to be non-profit. There is also the issue I hadn't considered until I read a comment in this thread, that Blender/Photoshop and such might be non-commercial.

Paywalls happen because people know that their mod will get bought for £1 a shot or something, so why release it free? This kills off the (good) free mod base over time - and as we've seen, Valve takes ownership of the content uploaded to the Workshop. So the paid mods may also die off, leaving very little.

The community will break up/already has over this issue, due to the fundamental conflict of people refusing to allow paid mods. I am against it, although I do understand why modders want to get paid. That's fair enough.
