Yes, the keyword is "usefull content". Now, to the point being discussed: I have posted the relevant information. Take it as you wish.

The models are quite good. Though you should practice some texturing. Try to keep both skills up-to-date and equal. One is no good without the other.

Allthough you got a point, there is a big different between "I claim Blender is better than 3ds max" and "I like Blender more than 3dsmax". I believe that is the thing he pointed out. Unless you've been asked for proffesional opinion on the software, then saying "I claim Blender is better than 3ds max" can be seen offensive. Stop using caps in your post. It makes you look unserious and/or mad.

Why does Bethesda still not add nudity in games?
Matth85 replied to Gyiul's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
As of now the games get rated M, which is acceptable by most stores. Add nudity and it gets rating AO, which a good deal stores will not sell it. The same reason it doesn't sell other nudity games. I.E. Loss of profit. If they did it they would not gain anything, and they would lose. We got mods for that. -
GEMSTONES in 3DS MAX 2012? Can't get colors to work
Matth85 replied to neon369's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Okay, 1 way to do it, which is without changing too much, is simply: 1) Click on the gemTop mesh. 2) Click 1 step under, to the NiTriShapeData node. 3) Scroll down to "Vertex Color". 4) Change all the colors from white to red. Otherwise you can change it all to become as similar to the Bethesda one as possible. This is actually quite fast, and can be used very flexible. However, it might seem overwhelming if you are not used to NifSkope. I have added pictures to each step, for visual representation. I'd only try this if the first method doesn't work out. P.S. Does anybody know if there is an easier way to change the vertex colors? So far I manualy changed about 100 verts. That takes a long time >.< Cheers, Matth -

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/5474/capturekyd.png A shot taken from Nifskope. I simply deformed the normal ruby and got it working. It's pretty much what I've allready said. However, if it is hard to understand I can write a more detailed how to for you. -
GEMSTONES in 3DS MAX 2012? Can't get colors to work

I'll try it myself. That way I can at least see if it is as simple as I put it out to be. -
GEMSTONES in 3DS MAX 2012? Can't get colors to work

Then I assume the gems are simply an alpha with vertex coloring. Simply make your changes. Export it as a .nif. Open the old .nifo Copy about everything from the old to the new one, and try to keep it as equal as possible. or Copy the shader/alpha settings from the old one to the new nif. Then delete the old model from the old .nif, and add the new mesh to the old file. Save it as a .nif and into your meshes folder. Edit: The ruby got a few textures. GreyNoise.dds DefaultWhiteSpec_n.dds ShinyGlass_e.dds White_em.dds It also consist of 2 models: The inner and the outer. The outer is red and the inner is white. They both use the same texture sets. And the only difference in the 2 is the red color comes from vertex coloring. -
To add, you need to do a lot more legwork than this if you want to make a mod of this size, and get a team. As a starter you need to plan out your mod very detailed. Then you need to do some planning on where the cities are located, to get it exact. Next you will need to think how many modders you need. Remember Bethesda got hundred of proffesional game artist working for 5-6 years per game, which usually consist of 1 region. I.E. To get this done "roughly" you'd need a team of 20 modders and about 1-3 years of modding. Can you handle that? For big mods one needs a lot of planning. One doesn't get a team without doing the legwork themself :) Matth

GEMSTONES in 3DS MAX 2012? Can't get colors to work
Matth85 replied to neon369's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Quite simple. - Edit the shape of the diamond. - Look at the UVW. - you will find it in the modifier window as UVW unwrap. Now you got 2 things you can do. 1) - Make a new UVW - open the old texture and the new uvw in Photoshop/GIMP and use the Clone Stamp to get the texture placed over the new UVW. - Copy the texture, grayscale it and look the the original models alpha channel. Try to get the same ammout of gray. 2) Since the gems are very small, you can simply change the UVs to fit the old texture. That means no changing in texture, but you might get some bad stretching. Finally: - Export it as a nif. Open your new nif and the original nif. - Copy the texture nodes from the original gem to the new one. - Delete the gem from the original nif, and coy over your new one. - Save it under Data/Meshes/yourmodname, or whever you want to save it. - Go into the CK and add it to the game. Simply find the other gems, "new" and fill in the forms. At least this is the rough way to do it. -
Large Scale Daedric/Aedric Story Mod Planned HELP NEEDED
Matth85 replied to SireDarko's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Too ambiteous. Start of small. Make a few quests yourself, and release it. Then expand on it. You'll most likely get help if you actually got something done allready. -
Anyone else throughly sick of the skyrim game mechanics
Matth85 replied to Eegxeta's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
As I like to say: This is Skyrim. It is what it is. Morrowind is still here. Why not play it? Games don't stop to exist just because a new game is out. I still play Daggerfall from time to time -- which, by the way, beats Morrowind in my opinion. Now, you can always run back to Morrowind and have all the things you like, and leave Skyrim to us who don't want it. -
LE Request to port an armor from oblivion to skyrim
Matth85 replied to leyasu's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
Sadly, no. There is no documentation that he ever said we could port it to Skyrim. Even though we pertty much know he would allow it, we simply can't. What one can do is to contact the other people who have ported it and ask them about the permission. WIth some luck they can copy paste a quote, or do the port themself. Copyright isn't always nice! Matth -
There you go. Nothing fancy again, but I am not going to work my ass of to render it perfectly :) Only the best models get that kind of renders. Hope it is better now! Matth

LE Oblivions Zombies? Why hasn't anyone done this.
Matth85 replied to Enad1's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
Modelling creatures is quite difficult. You'd also need to make custom animations and sounds for them. No, you are not allowed to touch any files from Oblivion and take them over to Skyrim. -
Specularity controls the light reflection value. The alpha channel of your normal map is a Specularity map. If a model got a specularity map as a texture itself, there is no need to use the normal map alpha channel. At least as far as I know.
-
The alpha channel of the difuse map is the transparency. Black means see through, and white means you can't. Find the value of grey you need. Then save the .dds as a DXT5. The shiny part is because of the specularity map. Simply make a greyscale of your difuse map, change the values to represent how shiny you want it to be. White being plastic shiny and black being nothing. Then you can simply add it the the normal maps alpha channel and save it as a DXT5. That is all the required photoshop work. You could also make a reflection value map, or _em, by using your specularity. Other than that it is nifskope work. That is out of my skillset, sadly. Cheers, Matth

Matth85 Hope I got it somewhat right. Cheers, Matth

The Gods can't enter the world. The Daedra can, but it takes a lot of effort to manifest. Also, we allready got something similar. It is called Oblivion, and consist of 1 Daedric god attacking, and in the end the manifest of Akatosh beats him. Dadreic Prince verus a god right there.

LE Request to port an armor from oblivion to skyrim
Matth85 replied to leyasu's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
You should really read the commentary on mods .... http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15416 - it's in the Lady Body Female Replacer. "8. Replacing The Dark Brotherhood master's armor with the complete set "Underworld"." Other than that we are bound by the creatiors to not port it to Skyrim without permission: "You can use and release this in your own Oblivion mods." Which means you would need to ask the creator for permission, and post the permission here. Cheers, Matth -
You don't make it to play it yourself, you make it to feel that you achieved something. Nope. It would turn a hobby into work, since I know the more I did the more pocket money I had. It's the same with everything. Nobody make mods for themself. They make mods so other can use them. However, you mod for yourself. I'll break it down: A mod: An addon to a game that is custome made, and contain custom content. To mod: A person who make mods, usually as a hobby. One is the act itself, one is the product. "It's not the destination that counts, it's the journey". The product benefit the community. The workd itself benefits you, the modder, and seing a good product boosts self esteem and motivation. Generally, if people want money with modding, they should get good and get a job as a game designer. Quick and simple. Not that I got anything against people geting donations, but feeling the need to get paid for it. Eh. All the good mod would suddently cost every so slightly and it would cut the fun for the poorest out there in the long run. Hope I managed to get my point across somewhat better. :) Cheers, Matth
-
Well, we don't require money for modding; because it is a hobby. You can get good at modding and pursue a career as a game designer, and probably do well. It's like any sport player. They don't earn anything before they actually get good, and spend countless houres doing it. If you get to the point you need money for motivation, I suggest taking a break from your hobby. This is relaxation, not stress. This is fun, not boring. You mod for yourself, not the community. Remember that. Cheers, Matth
