  1. I can't stay in workbench mode. No matter what I'm doing my character will simply jump out of workbench mode as if I had hit escape. This can be a real PITA depending on what I'm doing. Anyone know what might be causing this? Don't think it's a load order thing because I did a total reinstall of the game and it was doing it before I ever started adding any mods.
  2. Sorry, realized this is in the wrong section but don't know how to fix it.
  3. Opened 0.61.21 for the first time and every damned one of my mods is gone from the mod list. It asked if I wanted to do a couple of scans which I assumed would put things to rights again and I click yes but no go. I installed one new mod and it's the ONLY mod that shows in the Mod list. The plugin view and all its functions seem to work perfectly but not being able to access the original mods is NOT a good thing. What else do I have to do to get my mod list back? Checked a little farther and the mods folder in the FO4 main directory is empty. Even the new mod doesn't appear there.
  4. I rebuilt ADA into a badass sh*t kicking machine and now she walks all over me. Literally. Whenever we're walking to someplace she is constantly ramming into my back, her weapons clipping through and sticking out in front of me and eventually she manages to crowd past me and get in front at which time she simply stops dead in front of me. If I continue walking, I wind up pushing her down the road in front of me. I have to maneuver around her and get in front again and the whole little dance starts all over. I can't concentrate on the game for having to keep this thing from leaving little caterpillar tracks all over me. She's pushed me off catwalks, jammed herself between me and activators, rolled in front of my gun when I'm sniping, plugged up doorways, rolled out in the open when I'm trying to sneak... you name it, if there's a way to screw up game play, she'll find it AND do it. On my way to remove her robobrain treads now and replace them with legs hoping that will slow her down some and thereby keep her behind me but if that doesn't work I appear to have just spent ten bucks for a DLC that either makes my game unplayable or is itself unplayable for me. Anyone else seeing this?
  5. I've installed several since it had been a while. I'm assuming one is causing the problem but have no idea which. Guess I'll wind up doing the old elimination routine again. I'm also starting with a downloaded save file and might need to start an actual new game.. I walked up to the place in 3rd person... nothing else around and nothing happens except that growl sound and my character just falls over dead. Doesn't happen anywhere else so the problem is at that location.
  6. Trying to start a new game. Everything goes fine until I approach the Red Rocket truck stop. No matter how or from what direction I approach my PC character dies. There's a growling noise and the character just falls over dead. I don't seem to be attacked or anything just the snarl and then instant death. Nobody around but Dogmeat and the death sequence shows him run over to where my character is and bark once, then it restarts. I even tried it in God mode and the same thing happens. I can walk on past the truck stop but haven't gone on into Concord yet to see what happens there. I did add one new mod today, the Nanosuit mod but I wouldn't think it would affect the game like this especially since I haven't had a chance to craft the suit yet. Any ideas what to look for here?
  7. Someone asked this way back during the first week the game came out and I've never seen an answer yet. Whenever my character goes into sneak mode or otherwise squats down, the picture brightens to the point of washing out and a depth of field comes into being that renders everything except the exact center a horrendous blur. More than a depth of field, this is outright tunnel vision. I'm seeing posts from lots of others about it so it's not just confined to my system. DOF has been turned off in the prefs and this overblown version of DOF only occurs when sneaking. Whenever I stand up the screen goes back to normal. I'm told this is part of the vanilla game at least since the last patch although I can't imagine why anyone would want it. Has anyone come up with any kind of solution for it yet?
  8. Fun in a corny way should not cost $60 and rate a year and a half of hype. Fun in a corny way is just another way to say "mediocre".
  9. Get FO4Edit. It's a test release and changed from earlier editions but is still fairly intuitive when it comes to stat edits and such. Spend a little time with it.
  10. Wow! Nothing like a healthy dose of "realism". This is a throwback compared to New Vegas as far as realism and immersion are concerned. And Fallout lore? Nothing but homemade and jury rigged homemade weapons (even though actual rifles and pistols exist in every other part of the Fallout world from Fallout 1 to New Vegas) except for a 10mm unlike any other in any wasteland, a crude double barrel shotgun and hunting and "sniper" rifles that had to be made backwards to suit the primitive game mechanics, no animations, no visible equipped weapons in third person, bullets and laser "beams" that seem to wander through weird arcs and over gyrating paths to reach their targets, guns that take up to 5-10 (or more for some enemies)) shots to kill certain enemies while the rest of the gang is blowing or beating your donkey off, even in VATS... and that's just the weapons/combat. Wish I'd known I was paying $60 for a copy of Stalker Goes to Boston. This may actually turn out to be a pretty good game but it has a very tenuous connection to the Fallout Universe and game mechanics as we've come to know them over the years. Hopefully the modders can help make it into more of an actual Fallout game but I suspect I'll be returning to TTW when all the hype wears off.
  11. In the pictures I've seen of bolt action weapons, including a couple of variations on the old hunting rifle, they're all left handed. Is this true in the game and if so, why? In the real world, left handed bolt action conversions were extremely rare (and expensive).
  12. No, the one in the main folder. I'll check closer. This changing over from a basic structure I've used for 8 years now is hard on an old dude like me. ;) Thanks.
  13. Believe you're right on the Read Only. The game starts the launcher even if you click or create a shortcut directly to the main .exe file and the launcher overwrites your ini file(s). Hopefully that will change when we get a mod manager and script extender with their alternative starts and the launcher can be bypassed.
  14. They do seem to have made the same mistake they made in the other two games where they have these big piles of rubble inside a building or tunnel or whatever... or even outside a building against a wall for that matter... and not a damned clue as to where it's supposed to have come from since walls and ceilings are still totally intact, not a board or brick out of place. I found that immersion breaking as heck as I wondered, "Now, where the heck did THAT come from?" every time I went through a door.
  15. Apparently Beth never noticed all those mods that were made to improve their previous games and could easily have been incorporated into this one at the drawing board because they totally failed to include a vast number of them. Why did they think people were making and USING those mods in the FIRST place? We LIKE visible equipped weapons, We LIKE centered/raised 3rd person cameras, we LIKE intuitive UIs and structured menus. But once again, Beth has chosen to take the easy road by issuing a project that pretty much ignores all those things and leaves it to the modding community to make the game worth the sixty bucks we're paying for it. I don't buy Beth games because their games are better than anyone else's. I buy them because I know the modders are going to MAKE them better than anyone else's.
  16. I have a 4Gb card (GeForce GTX 630) but it only has 96 shader cores (fine for watching Netflix, not so much for high end games) and chokes badly on anything above medium settings (although I suspect I'll manage at least a tad better as time goes on and mods are forthcoming). This is what I get for being blinded by the 4 gigs of ram. :D Saving my pennies now for an upgrade. In the meantime I spent my entire first day tweaking and installing other people's tweaks just to get the game playable.
  17. Maybe I'm doing wrong but even when I click on the main exe the launcher starts and does its thing. I have my tweaked ini files set as read only now which avoids overwrites but I'd rather just start with the exe until we start getting mods that include loaders, etc. I suppose it's something simple that I'm just overlooking but is there anyway to bypass the launcher in this game or is that one of the mods we'll have to wait for?
  18. Bethesda would be stupid to try to inhibit mods for their games. Mods are the only thing that makes them playable (read salable) in the long run. For example I bought this one knowing it would be pretty much what it is and if I had thought that was all it would ever be, I wouldn't have bought it. Mods MAKE Bethesda games.
  19. I have a GTX 630 with 4 Gb DDR3 on board but only 96 shader cores so my rig chokes pretty badly when there's a lot going on. The number of cores appears to be a very important factor in how my rig handles these games. When you're selecting a card you might want to make that a consideration also.
  20. Just like in the original games until someone invented balance mods, I find myself shooting these guys right in the face 7-8 times and they don't even stagger. I deliberately went into god mode and stood myself right in front of one of them and shot him 14 times using VATS, at least half of them head shots, before bringing him down. This isn't gonna cut it. Also, every raider I've seen so far looks exactly the same, is dressed exactly the same... the lip syncing is virtually non existent. And coming up against an almost totally indestructible deathclaw at level 3 with nothing but a 10mm pistol was a real joy. :D It's like taking a huge step backward, like we're right back at the beginning of Fallout under Bethesda only with even fewer choices, even worse graphics and even less in the way of reality and immersion at least on mid range rigs like mine. I'm figuring it will get better as the tools become available and the high end modders start working with it but as another commenter said elsewhere, right now I'm about ready to shut her down and wait until that happens simply to keep my first play through from being a total flipping mess.
  21. I can't afford new games very often and I held off all year saving my nickels and dimes for this one. Wish to hell I'd gone ahead and gotten something else. I thought we weren't supposed to have to pay the big studios for games that we then have to wait a year or two for the modders... who ALSO paid their $60 bucks... to step up and finish the job like Bethesda should have done in the first place. Any bets on when the first patch will be out? Took me almost five years to get FNV running perfectly on my little rig and it's probably going to be at least that long before , if ever, I'll get to fully enjoy this one.
  22. This whole Windows 10 thing drove me nuts for a few days with FO3 and then I decided to uninstall and reinstall the game from scratch. I removed the "Run as Admin tag" from everything various sites and posts had said to add it to and started adding utilities back intending to test after each one. First thing I did I did was install G4WL When I tested it the game booted immediately. And I mean immediately, like in about 3 seconds. Even with no mods, it was highly unusual for my not so hot rig. I stopped doing anything special right then. Just treated it like a normal installation. Everything is working great (with one exception). Other than having to run 4GbFNV as an administrator so that the launcher wouldn't start every time, that's it. I've done nothing special. It still loads in a few seconds, including when changing areas or loading a save. I've gotten about a 50% FPS gain over what I was getting with Windows 7, My graphics settings are maxed and then some (tweaked inis). I use the One Tweak mod and run windowed but I was doing that in Windows 7 also. Oh yeah, I haven't had a CTD or a freeze in three days of playing. No problems from G4WL either. Today I did the same thing with FNV with the exception of G4WL, of course). Just stripped everything out and started from scratch. Again, everything is better than it ever was. The exception mentioned initially is that I can no longer run SweetFX nor, I'm assuming, any ENB. I can install Sweet FX and the game will immediately crash on start up either from the .exe file(s) or from play on the launcher. Removing the D3D9.dll file allows the game to run again even if you leave the rest of the shader files installed but of course there's no effect from SweetFX without the dll. If someone would just come up with a fix for that I'd be happier than a pig in mud. The only thing I can think of is Microsft was installing a ton of updates at the time and one of them may have been a fix for what had been screwing up the game before. I'm beginning to wonder itf maybe we aren't overthinking this whole Windows thing. At least I'm thinking I might have been.
  23. Anyone know of a mod or plugin that would allow the SweetFX D3D9.dll to work with Fallout FNV and F03 on Windows 10? As long as that dll file is in your game directory and/or exes folder the game crashes when you hit play. My mediocre rig has never handled ENBs very well and there's no guarantee they would work either. Not a game killer of course but I'm kind of used to playing with some kind of enhanced graphics.
  24. I reinstalled FO3, took out all the compatibility for XP stuff including "run as admin" and installed G4WL and it started right up. My frame rate doubled, and I no longer have to have that dll file to get it to run. Got my fingers crossed it keeps gong as I add my mods back. May even try SweetFX again.
  25. Thanks. I'll definitely take a look at that one. Once you have the game running on 10 it seems to run fairly well, although I haven't started loading back my dozens of mods yet.
