I'm interested the same thing, not for any esthetic kind of reasons but because I have a not so strong PC setup and those thousands of useless little items littering the landscape drag it down performance wise. There are far too many to remove each one in the GECK so for people like me, a mod that goes after as many as possible at a time is definitely in order. One good one I use is Clean-Deluxe ... www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/17115 ... might want to check it out. Only works in Vanilla areas though. I find areas added or altered by mods still have whatever trash and junk the modder puts in them and some of them <<cough>> AWOP <<cough> go way overboard for my cheap little graphics card ;) . I'm sure there are others that do the same for different kinds of stuff. I know it ticks off some ofl the lore freaks who seem to think that postapocs will like to live in places so submerged in trash and garbage they can't walk through it (including corpses and body parts) to find some of us would give up all the "lore friendly" garbage and trash for playability but that's just the way it is sometimes.

New mod author comment moderation features and updated terms of servic
Nofsdad replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
If this gets rid of the comments like "This mod sucks. Download mine or So & So's instead, it's better" or the nasty little comments obviously designed to attract attention to the commenter at the expense of any semblance of honest and meaningful critique, I'm for it. If it becomes a means of eliminating any form of honest and meaningful critique by people unwilling or incapable of providing support and improvement to their brainchild, I'm agin it. I generally come down on the side of authors in these disputes, figuring if a user doesn't like a particular mod that user is already free to NOT download or use that particular mod. That's the only "right" he or she has. There is seldom any justification for going to someone's page and bitching and complaining about something that nobody forced you to download in the first place, now is there? The author is under no obligation whatever to the user to provide something to the users liking. And the absolute worst are those that go to a mod author's page and slam his or her mod and then try to steer you to a different mod, either their own or by one of there buddies. Eliminate those kinds and I'll support it in a hot minute. (As a simple user of course, I totally lack the talent to create a mod myself and can only speak as a user.) What I'm trying to say is, some... hell, MANY... of the users on the nexus seem to have gone to school to learn to be total rectal orifices and anything that keeps their kind of comments out of my face is more than welcome to at least a fair trial as far as I'm concerned. -
I Have a couple of the DLC files from Steam (OWB & GRA) and use BOSS to sort my load order. BOSS returns the following message for both the DLCs: "Contains dirty edits: 124 ITM, 0 UDR. Needs FNVEdit cleaning. A cleaning guide is available here " Both of them are from Steam and neither has been altered in any way by me. Should I attempt to clean these in FNVEdit? Will NOT cleaning them cause problems? Not sure why they would release official addons in less than pristine condition and not sure what to do about it (if anything). Hoping someone has a definitive answer. Thanks.

Same here. All three of the servers reserved for premium members are much slower than the regular servers with the on in Kent, UK being the worst of the bunch. Not going to complain about not getting the higher speeds premium members are supposed to be getting because the other servers are pretty darned quick anyway but it almost seems that the bandwidth throttling got done on the premium servers instead of the others. That one in Kent has been 10-20 times slower than my old standbys in Salt Lake.

Weird thing just started recently. I've been running Random Encounters for m onths now, mainly because I like battling robots. Over the past few days however, every time I encoiunter one of the Gutsies and it fires a plasma weapon... or whatever that green bolt is... my screen goes to black. It's not a crash, the game continues and everything works including VATS But it's just like a totally black nighhtime. If I'm using a scoped weapon I can still see the scope (but not anything in it) and that's all. When that particular robot stops firing, the screen comes back but it goes away as soon as he fires again. Haven't noticed it with any other robot model and I'm pretty sure it's only when the plasma weapoin is fired that it occurs. I've put in several new mods and taken out others over the past week or so so have no idea which might be causing the proiblem. Thought bewfore I started the process of elimination and deactivation, I'd ask here and see if anyone else had ever seen this before.

Has anyone come up with a way to stop the texture flickering when you're zoomed in on an NPC either through VATS or with a scope or binoculars? It looks as if hair is clipping through helmets and heads are clipping through hair, etc. It's especially notable with vanilla characters but happens to a degree with modded ones also. This is extremely distracting and I guess an artifact of the original game programming but I would think if it were fixable someone would have figured out how by now so maybe it's not fixable? If not, I sure as heck expected better than that from what was a $60 program two years ago but ever since what I call the EA Syndrome has overtaken the industry it seems to be what we can expect.

I'll sure be glad when things finally sort themselves out. I've been unable to use the forums for more than a few minutes at a time since it came back up. Gateway and File Not Found errors abound in both Chrome and Firefox and the forums are totally unusable for me because of it. Edit. Oops! Spoke too soon. Can't even navigate to the next page of comments here now.

Not sure what all you7 did during the downtime but I'm having a heck of a time getting around the forums tonight. 404s and 504s up the gazoo. Don't think it's a browser issue since it happens in Chrome and Firefox both. The site itself seems to be running about normal for me, it's just navigating the forums after I get here that's being a PITA. Hopefully things will sort themselves out before too long. I do like the posting form better

Does anyone have any info on any mod that might cause a horrendous memory leak while playing? Game becomes progressively slower and more jerky throughout the play and eventually just crashes out after 30-60 minutes. At that point, there's not even enough memory left to even crash gracefully. The game goes to a black screen and Windows lacks sufficient memory to open anything else. Sometimes, if you can wait it out (often up to 5 minutes) there will finally be enough memory free for Windows to open explorer again. I usually just pull up the task manager and start shutting down stuff manually, often including five or six open instances of the game overlay. This has only become a major problem since I did a major revamp of my mod lists taking out some, putting in some, etc so I'm assuming it's one (or more) of the newer additions that is causing the problem. I'm on Win7 64 bit, using the 4Gb patch and running NMC's small texture pack (although before this started I was running the medium pack with no problems). The game loads and runs just fine, it just runs out of memory after a bit. Load order follows (I let BOSS set it up). I'm just hoping someone has had the problem and can remember which mod was the culprit. OK, thanks one and all. I think I may have made a start on getting it figured out now.

I was a sysop on the old Quantum Link board which eventually evolved into AOL. I got out of it after the went public and the Wall Street suits took over. Was a ton of fun when we started but alas it grew big enough to attract the attention of the professional investors. I did some O'Hanlon Database programming for computerized dispatch system of the state fire control agency I worked for... Never try to run a 400 unit fire department on software programmed in BASIC... but QBASIC was as far as I ever got. -
I signed up for a premium account today and one of the things I was supposed to get... or so I thought anyway... was an increase in download speeds I assumed through the use of the "Download With Manger" button. I tried it and it still does nothing just like it did before I signed up. So I downloaded the file the old way and didn't notice any increase in download speed. There are literally a ton of FAQs and tutorials and explanations on this site and I.m not sure where to start looking for help on this so I was hoping someone could point me to the one along the lines of "Premium Downloading for Morons" or something of that nature. Thanks. T

You're absolutely right. I am a cranky old man (I'll be 70 in two weeks) but I'm a cranky old man who's been running computers, playing computer games and been on line in one form or another for almost 30 years now and has operated and/or moderated forums (starting back in the days when they were merely bulletin boards and my computer was a Commodore 64). If I've learned one thing it's that if you're gonna charge for something others offer free, your service better be at least a measurable amount better than theirs. This site meets that requirement and IS better than the rest and that... coupled with a couple of other things... made me decide it was worth supporting with a few of my extremely meager bucks. . One question... I only play FNV for now but if I decide to start playing other Nexus games, will the fee I've paid cover their downloads also? -

@RustyXXL Yes I exaggerated some. I'm in a rural area of California where the hardwired phone grid hasn't been updated since the 1920s and twisted pair copper wire is all that's available. 56k and down wasn't uncommon for those of us that lived more than 2-3 miles from the nearest PacBell switching vault nor was it uncommon for data transmissions to just stop during peak use hours. I'm on high speed cable now and have been for a few years now else I couldn't be doing the steam thing in the first place. @Captiva Called their help center, got them to accept my new debit card and got signed up. Now a dues paying premium member. I'm an old guy on Social Security so options are limited and the 20 bucks is a kick in the head for me but it's worth it just to be rid of those damned flashing ads. ;-) Now I only hope some changes are made in the way the files are presented. I've at least paid for the right to complain if they aren't. -

OK, decided to put my money where my mouth is. Signed up for a 6 month trial and just as I flipping knew would happen PayPal won't let me pay for it. I've never had ANYTHING go through PayPal without a major hassle and this is apparently not going to be an exception. I tried as a guest and it told me that the code from the back of my card is invalid. I use this card and that code everywhere else in the universe with no problem. So then I decided to use my actual account and they said they were unable to link to my new debit card... whatever the flip that means... and that I should use a different card. Going back now to start the usual hassle with PayPal but if I don't ever become a paying member of this site, it won't be because I didn't try. No biggie. Guess I'll just have to download at dialup speeds if I want something from here again (and can't find it somewhere else). @Captiva I wan't particularly insulted and let's just say that your response was part of the motivation I had for actually trying to become a supporter instead of just a dependent. But as usual, the internet's insistence on using PayPal for everything has smacked me right upside the head again. -

I try not to fail to endorse any mod that I like well enough to retain in my list although I sometimes forget for a while until something brings it to mind. I usually leave a little note of appreciation in comments also. These seem like such small tokens though. They in no way express the appreciation I have for you guys and gals that have made FNV my favorite game for far beyond the average shelf life of games around here. And to the person who made the dig that I had never supported the Nexus financially and probably never would, I thought I explained that sufficiently but obviously not. I have a rather minimal rig and run only about 60 mods on average. Of those, nearly all of the major ones have had to be downloaded from other sites because they are no longer available here for whatever reasons. Of the remainder and of the many files I have downloaded here, probably two thirds of my download count has consisted of files I have downloaded, tried and found wanting for various reasons and don't use. Some of them were never used owing to inadequate file descriptions or failure to post requirements that I couldn't meet. All I'm saying is that if there are to be standards for downloaders to meet and especially if we are going to be paying for the privilege of using the site... which I am prepared to do no matter what some amateur shrink might think if for no other reason than those flashing ever changing ads are a major distraction for me... then I think there should be standards for uploads also and that we shouldn't have to spend hours of time... time that we would be paying for if all comes to fuition... trying to find the files that will work for us. Some simple standards for file descriptions and a requirement for images on those files that change content would be a nice start. "Alpharumagogo. My first mod, be nice to me." is NOT a file description. -
does anyone else have this starwars mod
Nofsdad replied to wolfgang616's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
With no more ino than you've given, I suspect you're missing a needed texture set. As in the very first paragraph of the READ ME file: ( I Dled it and looked at the arch file and saw that there were no texture files for the Storm Troopers. This indicated that it was dependent on another file for the textures and sure enough... right there on top of the READ ME was the answer. READ Mes are your friends.) --FILE REQUIRED-- Download Ghogiels' Stormtrooper Armor Asset file first and install to your Data folder. You must have this for the armor to work. Thanks to Ghogiels for his work here! http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=40055 That said,,, if you have the mod that your Star Wars mod is dependent on and it still doesn't work then I'm thinking you need to post more info as to what you have or haven't done/tried before you'll get much help. -

The only things stopping me from contributing financially to The Nexus is the need to use Paypal to do so and the fact that a lot of the most popular mods for the games I play have been taken off or otherwise made unavailable by the admins and moderators while the number of "junk mods" I have to wade through to find the good stuff increases steadily. Fallout New Vegas is currently the only Nexus game I currently play and over the past couple of years, you've managed to ban most of the most popular mods and many of the pioneer modders who made the game a fantastic experience for a lot of us. On the other hand, while I acknowledge that some really good stuff still pops up now and then, I'd guess that about 70% of the mods being added these days are of the dreck variety, which includes the daily God weapon, usually created by some minor tweaks to weapon stats--- the weekly new house in Goodsprings--- the deathclaw, ant, robot, tumbleweed Sunny/Cass/Veronica companion--- minor color or cosmetic tweaks to someone else's armor---, or outright thefts of all or portions of other mods, many taken directly from those same banned mods and authors. In other words, as you're speaking of raising revenues and finding some way to extract payment for the "goods" you offer, the value of those goods... at least as far as FNV is concerned... is being steadily eroded by the loss of quality mods by experienced and talented modders and the influx of junk mods churned out daily amateurs and wannabes. I would happily pay for the privilege of downloading an Ahztek's Weapon Pack or a URWLNV53, or a BOE New Vegas/CaliberX... not so much "Goodsprings Player Home #456" or a tweaked 9mm pistol that shoots mininukes or a BB gun that fires missiles. I understand that these mods and modders are gone because they violated your rules and who knows, I might have done the same in your place. But I'd like to see the same level of effort aimed at enforcing the TOS applied maintaining the quality of the mods being carried and barring that, a way provided for us to more easily find the "gems" without having to wade through the tons of "laser Rifle shooting a green beam instead of a red one" junk that extends for page after page in your listings. Perhaps a special category for first timers and minor tweak mods Many of which by the way, are being uploaded without images or even an adequate file description to explain what the heck they are or what they do might work? The increasing degree of difficulty in finding real quality mods that actually exceed the quality of those that have gone before and that I already have is really the main reason I haven't become a premium member already. I'm really hoping the situation sees some changes in that respect before FO4 becomes a reality and the cycle starts again. -
Navigation is turning into a tedious chore over the past couple of days. I have attempted to view files and gotten every excuse in the world on many why I couldn't up to and including that the file was under review or had been marked hidden by the author. All of them have proved bogus when I persisted and I was able to get to the files in question but only after running through the entire gamut of error messages and reasons why the files were unavailable. It has seemed to worsen with time and I'm running five for five so far today in attempting to check out the New for Today files. I'm using Firefox on Windows 7 if it makes any difference.

The one thing that has always been a reality/immersion breaker for me is that everyone you meet... and I mean EVERYONE... has this perfect body. The men are all these strapping muscular hunks with exactly the same attributes and the women are all perfectly proportion with the same sized breasts, etc. There are no short people, no tall people, no chunky people, no fat people... every one of them is a perfect physical specimen. I suspect this has something to do with the fact that the guy who designed the bodies at Obsidian was too lazy to come up with something that might actually resemble the population of the planet and that he... as has been intimated elsewhere... only turned in a single skeleton on which everyone, PCs and NPCs, men and women alike must be based, If this is so, I'm probably out of luck here but my question is this: Is there a mod... either up or in the works... that would make the people populating the wasteland a little less than perfect in those case where something other than perfection is called for? Has anyone actually modeled a SET of bodies and/or a mod that would assign different bodies to different characters and make them look more like people instead of classic statues come to life? Thanks T

This game has been riddled with spots like that ever since I've had it. Nothing is more annoying to me than getting caught in some innocent and innocuous position, unable to move and turn in any direction. it's one of the main reasons for my anybody but Obsidian mindset regarding the next release.

Anybody have any idea what would cause a CTD about eight times out of ten that a grenade is used? Sometimes it crashes as soon as I throw it, others it reaches the target but crashes before it explodes and a few times it has actually exploded but crashed within a few seconds afterward. I'm just about to the point of disabling my mods one at a time and see if I can find the one causing the problem but hoping someone here may have had it and done all my work for me. Thanks. T

I've only found one other reference to this problem and that was back in October and the guy never got a reply so I thought I'd try. What would make an NPC sink through the floor or ground or else rise straight up in the air to about ten feet and hover there when you approach or attempt to engage them in any way? Happens every time with Ringo inside the gas station at Goodsprings (seems fine when he leaves the building) and Beagle at Primm once you have him out of the Bison Steve and either outside or inside the V&V. Also happens with every traveling merchant and even some enemies although with enemies it's more rare. Others that exhibit this behavior are the various gate guards and militia types that AWOP places around the map. As soon as you approach within trigger distance they decide to head for the basement or take off into the rafters. In many cases, like with merchants, they will sink slowly into the ground and if you've initiated conversation you can continue even though they're nor longer visible and as soon as you break off the conversation they pop out of the ground and continue on their way. In the case of enemies, it can be a pain in the butt because they're still blowing your donkey up and moving around and you can't see them to shoot at them. Sometimes entering VATS will make them visible and give you a shot. Anyway, if anyone else has had this problem I'd appreciate greatly hearing how you solved it. It's not a real game breaker but it does detract greatly. Thanks Tom

I also use Vurts and had a lot of problems with stuttering, poorly rendered textures, etc and after adding a new CPU cooler (tower style) and ziptying a fan to my Radeon 5450 (doesn't come stock with a fan) things seem to have settled down considerably. Didn't cure 100% of the problems... it IS an Obsidian product after all... but it certainly made a big difference in the number of CTDs and drastic slowdowns I was experiencing and my game is HEAVILY modded and running at ultra.. Heat... especially CPU heat... is your enemy. The CPU cooling you get with most PC purchases and/or build kits is shall we say, "marginal at best" and games like this one are highly CPU intensive.

SOLVED!! Had to Google for it but found this thread http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/390342-cant-draw-weapons-fire-or-crouch/ in which rausheim provides what turned out to be a simple solution. Simply open the console and type "EnablePlayerControls" (no quotes). Wish I had found that thread before I did all that other stuff but what the hey, it's working now. Many MANY thanks to rausheim as I was ready to delete the ggme and move on. Now to start reinstalling all those mods.
