I'm thinking there may actually be more than one issue (just f***ing lol if true) that is causing the game to black screen. If you have an AMD card and turning off catalyst AI & setting it to performance on the slider doesn't work for you, are you crashing while looking at the map only or does it happen at any point in the game? There has to be multiple issues if turning off catalyst AI is actually fixing things for some people.

I've played a few days without crashing now, but crash isn't predictable and I could have just been lucky. I was getting it within a couple minutes to a couple hours before and there was no rhyme or reason to when it would happen. I noticed that I had a couple of windows updates that didn't update automatically so I installed those, set the catalyst AI to off, turned off AA on the game settings and turned on FXAA. Also forced the video card fan settings to 40% but the card was definitely not overheating. It was peaking at 68C before and stays around 60C now. I've got no clue if this fixed or helped in any way because again, we don't even know what the hell the problem is yet.

Getting the black screen crash as well. Tried all the usual things and all the things suggested so far, nothing fixes it. The crash itself doesn't occur at fixed intervals and I can go hours on high settings or minutes on the very lowest settings with the lowest resolution before it crashes. No other program causes this issue for me. System is using win 7 (windows version shouldn't have anything to do with this,) AMD Phenom 9650 quad core 2.3GHz, radeon hd 6870, onboard sound with realtek drivers. The card is not overheating and according to the amd vision catalyst software the usage is not spiking to 99/100% just before it crashes. Then you don't have the same issue as what is being discussed in this thread at all. This isn't a CTD.
