  1. help, please! for some reason, when there is hay/strawn strewn on the floor in interiors, it comes out looking like the pic. it looks weird and green and shimmery. i have no other grfx issues. i'm using ENB, Obsidian Weathers, and many texture packs. i tried to fix this by uninstalling/reinstalling SMIM; by trying 2 different hay texture mods; and by installing High Poly Project (which changes all hay to 3D models with new textures - so i thought that would fix it for sure). nothing worked. each changed the appearance of the hay, but it was still green and shimmery. anyone have any idea what could cause this issue? i'm not sure how to proceed, many thanks, matt
  2. disabling vsync will mess up the the time in the game, so after a while the sun will be rising at 3pm and weird things like that. this will lead to time-sensitive Quest objectives being missed, vendors not being open at the proper times, and all kinds of mayhem. leave Vsync on if you want a good game experience.
  3. thanks for turning me on to this series! i read lore books as i play, and this series is an excellent way to meld everything together into a more cohesive whole.
  4. Even physical boxed copies of the game (I own a box copy myself) require Steam activation, and by default install to the Steam directory. I'm not sure why your game does not follow these rules, as I am only aware of pirated versions of the game installing to directories other that Steam.
  5. Here is some general advice based on my 600+ hours in the game (and yes, I have finished the game on PC) and fighting through lots of issues and crashes and wonkiness. I studied like crazy and have spent 100's of hours reading and researching how to configure, modify, and improve my game experience. I recently started a fresh game and have 85+ mods installed and everything is running perfectly for me with 0 crashes or issues in over 25 hours of play. This is due to a lot of reading and studying on my part. 1] Make sure to install all of the appropriate Unofficial Patch files based on the DLC you have installed- they fix so much broken stuff. 2] Be aware that the internet is full of bad information regarding modifying your .ini files. Even "official" looking guides on respectable website have bad information on them that can cause instability over time. 3] If you are modding your game, make sure to use LOOT to get your load order setup properly. 4] When you start a new game, start it with all mods disabled (except for the unofficial patches) and don't enable them until you get outside of the caves and are on your own. 5] Always read the full description of every mod you install, and read some of the posts about the mod as well. There are unfortunately hundreds of mods out there that will break your game. The best way to see if an unfamliar mod is worth your time is to read the posts on the mod page. When you see that every other post is someone complaining about crashes after installing the mod, then you might want to steer clear of it - or do a ton of research to figure out what is going on. 6] Always be aware of incompatablities between mods. Some mods just won't work well with others. For example, on my most recent playthrough I tried to use Open Cities. My game kept crashing to desktop repeatedly until I uninstalled it. It just wasn't playing nicely with some of my other mods and I had to make a choice about what to keep. 7] Don't install too many mods (especially texture replacers) unless you know how to properly address Skyrim memory issues. 8] Make sure your SKSE is up to date. 9] NEVER disable VSync 10] Use LOOT to not only order your ESPs properly, but also read the comments and errors that it gives you about your installed mods. You can learn a lot by reading the LOOT Details page. Running Skyrim with mods is a tricky buisness and ultimately it is your own responsibility to make sure that you aren't making bad choices. If you need help with specific issues, ask people in these forums. Do research. Never believe the first thing you read about any issue - always read multiple opinions on the matter.
  6. I know that this post is pretty old, but i was having a similar issue and stumbled on this while searching for a solution. If you are still having problems, I recommend you check this out : http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/22rbk5/whats_the_best_papyrus_tweaks_to_use/cgq4qk0 It solved all of my problems, and has been confirmed by a Dev to be the right way to address this kind of issue.
  7. i'm glad to help! - and i love your sig quotes, both Wayne and the Spartan. one other thing i forgot to mention is making sure your audio is set to 24-bit 44100Hz. if i set mine to a higher rate, i get crazy FPS fluctuations. i have now played at least 5 hours of Skyrim since my reinstall - and it is working flawelessly. the only oddity i have come across is that sometimes items are hovering an inch or two above the surface they are supposed to be on. no big deal. though i suppose i could whine and blame Steam and Bethesda, Bill Gates and NVIDIA, and the whole darn world for ruining my precious game!!!!
  8. after the 1.4 patch, i updated SKSE and removed SkyBoost. upon playing the game i was getting CTDs for the first time in months, my framerates were constantly dropping into the 20s (i have a powerful rig and used to play at 50+ at all times), and i was getting odd glitches and random wierdness. after reading a ton of posts about this, i decided to take a scorched earth approach. i uninstalled Skyrim, uninstalled NMM, then went to my Steam\Common\Skyrim folder and deleted it, then went to my C:\Games\Skyrim folder and deleted it, then deleted everything in the Documents\My Games\Skyrim folder *except* for the Saves folder, which I left alone. next i uninstalled my video drivers, and installed the latest version, defragged my HDD, and rebooted my system. after that i reinstalled Skyrim, let Steam install all of the patches, edited my .ini files to my preferences (7 uGrids & some other minor tweaks), installed NMM, SKSE, and then reinstalled most of the mods i was using (SkyUI, SkyrimHD, and many others - but NOT SkyBoost which does not support patch 1.4). i loaded up the game and behold - i get a solid 50-60 FPS everywhere, on Ultra, everything maxxed, 7 uGrids, and this time i installed the Full version of SkyrimHD, whereas before i was running the Lite version. so - even though i was SURE that the patch borked the game, it turns out that it was something that i did, or that one of the mods i was using did, or one of my .ini tweaks. the point is - it was my fault and it was fixable. to all of you who are experiencing issues - did you try doing what i did? and i mean everything - especially deleteing the folders (just uninstalling and reinstalling does NOT create a truly fresh install). if you haven't, then i suggest you try it. it took me several hours, but it was worth it to play Skyrim in glorious HD at rock-solid FPS after the work was done.
