  1. This link takes me to a "Play as Garrus" mod at Nexus. I'm not finding the ModManager anywhere. It's disappeared.
  2. Ahhh... That makes sense. (Well, except that nothing about the use of the .NET framework makes sense to me! ) I hear you there Thandal. I'm good at finding problems and sometimes I solve them, but why they occurred? Not my area of expertise. To update you on what I ended up doing, I reinstalled Windows 10 since it kept showing I had Net framework, C++ and all the other extras installed, but none seemed to be working. And none would reinstall from downloads since Windows thought they were installed. So I gave up and just backed everything up to the extra drive, reinstalled, and wiped it clean. I hated doing that but everything just seemed to get worse as time went on and system restores didn't fix anything. Good news is that I'm back in business. Everything works and merged fine except my antivirus won't activate. I have 14 days to fix it and I can live with that. Thanks for all your help. Tirnoney and Thandal, and I'll see you in the Nexus!
  3. I have DAI installed on a separate drive and have since I first downloaded it in Nov of 2014. I've played it with no problems until now. I ran the SFC /checknow to check Windows integrity and errors appeared. Running the Dism protocol with restore health fixed some errors. Running another SFC scan pulled up errors again so either they didn't fix or there are new ones. MM still crashes when I select the executable file so whatever it fixed wasn't the problem. So... Not sure .NET 4.5.x is required. But here's the link to full "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5" [EDIT: Noticed I also have the "Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 4 Runtime" application installed. Don't know if that's relevant. ) Thandal: I ran that system 32 scan and the results said "No Instances Available." I suppose that means I don't have NET 4.5 installed but checking the registry says I do. I have officially entered the Twilight Zone now. UGH! It all points to a damaged Windows install so I'll reinstall. Again. Thanks for all your help. I was hoping I'd catch Thandal trolling since you've helped me before both here and at EA. Tirnoney, you are super and I love your mods when I can use them. Stay tuned for more. I'll be back with an update....
  4. I checked my version through regedit and it's up to date as is the net framework. When I tried downloading fresh installs, I got the message that I had the newest version and Windows refused to install them. I'm really stuck here. I may have to refresh windows since that's the only cure I can find that might work. Perhaps I got a bad install. I'll do some file checks and see what I can find out. Here's my current computer report. Perhaps you can see if there's anything wrong. Computer report
  5. If I had to guess given the sequence of events, I'd say you have one of three problems: 1. The old Patch_ModManagerMerge is corrupt and causing MM to crash on startup. Move it somewhere else/delete it since it clearly isn't working anyway. 2. You have a damaged mod in your mod directory. MM looks their and caches them immediately after locating the DAI exe and will crash if one of them is faulty or there is a problem with the directory. (you moved it or something after the windows crash). If need be, back up and then delete the entire directory and restore one mod at a time. 3. Less likely given what you've said, but it will also crash if you picked the 32bit version to install from DAITools instead of the 64bit version of MM for windows 10. All of this is assuming you've done the usual troubleshooting stuff of course. Thanks so much Tirnoney! Finally something new! Unfortunately I can't get past assigning the path for the game executable file so I don't think mods are an issue. The MM crashes every time I select the DAI game file and press ok. I downloaded a new version of MM and trashed the old; it's a 64 bit version run as an admin with no joy there either. So I'm still stuck. It's just so confusing since I played the game this morning and now I can't. I've downloaded nothing and can't find any evidence that anything changed on the system. There are no viruses or malware that I can tell and scans are clear. I can still play vanilla so I guess I'm stuck there. FYI: 5 of the mods I use are yours and I've used 3 others of yours that aren't in there right now. Love your work! Thanks for the help!
  6. The DAI MM crashes every time I try to set up the path for the game executable file. Steps I've taken so far: -checked for game updates -repaired the game (3x now) -tried to remerge the mods with DAI MM: error message that MM has stopped functioning appeared when I tried to point the MM to the DAI executable file and it crashed -downloaded a fresh copy of the MM and used it: still no joy and got the message and crash again. *Please note that I always run the MM as administrator. *I am able to start a new game and have the previous Patch/MM merge in but it isn't working. No mods are showing up in a new game. +This started after I was forced to refresh my Windows 10 install after a blue screen error. Windows works fine now but even though DAI is installed on a side drive, it completely reinstalled itself. I've refreshed before and this never happened. Usually I just click install, it puts the right files on the drive and I'm good to go. The actual game isn't reinstalled since it already is. +And until I was forced to refresh, I could change out mods easier than I could change my shoes. So there you have it. I'm stuck. I've gone through every troubleshooting file I can find on the internet and nothing works. So I'm asking you all since you've helped me before. I'm willing to provide any computer stats you need. Any ideas?
  7. I played through the Battle for Haven on the new graphics card with all mods installed and while there was a white screen after the Solas talk, the game did load and continue as it should. There was a much longer than average loading time to get to the Skyhold journey cutscenes however, about a minute. So my conclusion is that a sub-standard graphics card below game specs is unable to handle the graphics that occur during that particular part of the game if it is modded. My suggestion is to remove all mods, play the game through to Skyhold, then reinsert them using Greywolfe's method above. It will be difficult if you are playing with an older patch but the new Modmanager v52 is easy to use if you want to update to the current patch and use mods.
  8. Are you modding the game? If so, try taking them all out and try playing vanilla to see if that's the cause. My next suggestion would be to repair the game or reinstall it. Good luck!
  9. I have this question posted over at EA but so far there have been no answers. I just finished a playthrough on hard difficulty and never lowered the difficulty during the game. By rights I should have gotten the Herald achievement since I accomplished this. I didn't. I've never had any trouble with achievements before in any game. My question is this for anyone who might know: Is this achievement tied to the original game as issued in Nov 2014 or does it include DLC? I did not play Jaws of Hakkon in this playthrough. Do I need to load up an old save and do that? I'm playing with mods that affect game play. Specifically Superior Skills Mod, Faster Looting, LL Armor Crafting, LL Crafting Materials, New Influence Table, Remove Armor Class Restrictions, Runes 4 All, High War Table Materials, and Fall Damage Nullified. I also play with some PJ mods. Could the game recognize mods are being used and eliminate a modded game from consideration for achievements? I didn't get any achievements on a modded game before except for the JOH ones. Or is the whole process bugged, and I really did get the achievement but it's not taking? Thanks to any who can help!
  10. This is an issue I've had from time to time since February. Until recently, I had a Nvidia GTX 620 graphics card. It's below specs but I had no trouble getting the game to work. The issue never cropped up until I started using mods in February. This is what I've discovered: -It's a graphics rendering issue and like Thandal said in an earlier post, it seems to be limited to Nvidia cards. Updating all graphics software is a must! -I worked this problem for a couple of weeks and found that the easiest fix is to remove all mods, run the game & play to Skyhold, then put the mods back. Until the latest ModManager came out, that was a time consuming but sure fix. Once you do this, you will have to go into the Update folder within the game files and change the version number in the Package file to a higher number. For example, if your Package file says version number 8 with mods installed, after mods are removed it will need to be version 8 or higher to work. This one is trial and error guys so just keep upping the number until your game loads. One thing I noticed here is that every time you update, reinstall, or repair the game, you will need to raise the version number one digit. Right now, I'm running on game version 19. I found through the process of elimination on my own computer, that for me at least, mods that affect your Inquisitor's appearance seem to be the culprit. So I removed all PJ, makeup, hair, and appearance mods from the game. My game ran right through the Skyhold talk with no problems. The biggest culprit for me is eye appearance and graphics enhancement mods. They bog down the card so it gets stuck. I no longer play with them because of this. Examples of this type of mod are Sweet Fx and HD Eye mods. Greywolfe's suggestion above does work for many but it did not work for me. However, I recommend you try it to eliminate that as a solution. If it works, great! This is not to say it's a cure for what ails each of your cards. It's limited to low-end graphics cards due to the sophistication of the programming needed to run the game. Everyone's computer rig is different and there are unlimited combinations so there is no way a game developer can predict how a game will run on a specific rig. By necessity they have to research the most popular graphics cards and processors and set their limits there. Those of us with lower, older cards are left in the dark and forced to either upgrade or make due. It's the nature of the gaming industry for PC and it won't change. FYI: My hubby's computer blew out a motherboard the other day and it's cost prohibitive to fix so I gave him the old GTX 620 card tower and picked up a new tower with a GTX 750. The game runs great so far but I haven't gotten to the "Talk" yet so I'll check that later in an old game & update you. Good luck to all!
  11. To fix the problem where you get the error that says you need to have a higher version of the game to load the save, I do this and it works pretty well. -Navigate to your update file within the game files and go to the new file you just renamed "Patch" after merging your mods. -find the file called "package," and open that file using notepad. The contents will read like this: Name patch Authoritative Version 9 The version number will vary for everyone depending on how many times you've added mods to the game or updated it. -Change that number, in my case a 9, to the next digit higher. In my case, I change it to 10. -Save that file and close it. -Launch your game. This should fix most problems with that error since you just told the game it's a higher level than it really is. If you still get that error, within the game under the Load option, open the list of saves for the particular game you are trying to load. Try to load each save one by one from the most recent down. I found on a couple of games that while it won't load the most recent saves, it would load a save two or three saves down. Yes, you lose that progress but it's better than losing the entire game and having many hours of wasted game time. FYI: Any time you update or repair the game, this fix will need to be repeated if that error ocurrs again. I hope this works for you, talithaulima, and anyone else that's having that problem. As for the black screen issue, I found it's a mod conflict that's causing it. The only solution I have is to take out the mods you added most recently and add them in one by one. This could take hours so beware. Good luck!
  12. I tried that about 6 times now, Osben. It doesn't work. The games still won't load. This is where I get the "newer version" pop up warning. I have come to the conclusion after all the time I've put into fixing this problem, (about 20 hours now), that mods that affect the appearance of the Inquisitor/Herald are the cause of my issues. If I remove any mods that alter apearance, the game will progress. I did manange to get a game past the Solas talk before the Skyhold journey by doing just that. Perhaps there's just too much to render with the aesthetics so my game just stops. I plan on discovering which mods are the culprits in the future but I'm burned out on this as you can tell. Thanks for the advice!
  13. I have a couple of games that produce the white screen effect right after the Solas talk and right before the journey to Skyhold. I've tried several fixes to correct this with limited success but the problem resurfaces after a day or two. I wanted to document what I tried for posterity in case anyone else has the same issues. -Did a complete repair on my game -Downloaded a new copy of DAI Mod Manager -Installed mods using the current Patch 5 method, running MM as an administrator Results: Games at a save point past the Skyhold journey load but those made before won't load due to version error. Changing the version number in the package file does not work -Repaired game again -removed all mods from the equation and just created a merge with the vanilla patch Results: No games will load. Version number error present, changing number won't work. In addition to all this, I've tried running the game windowed, with Origin offline, with all security disabled, using the lowest possible graphics settings and all of the above at the same time. I made sure that all drivers for everything are updated. None of these solutions work. I've spent the better part of two weeks on this and that's enough. I'll check back here from time to time to see if any one responds but I'm switching to a vanilla game and starting over. They've made the game too hard to mod and the fixes are going too far above my comfort level as a computer user. There just seem to be more and more people having the same issues so I hope someone's happy for all our troubles. I'm certainly not.
