  1. Not as in-depth an answer as you were looking for, but: I noticed keeping shadows on high is best; ultra makes it do weird, 'shimmery' things.
  2. Thanks again, STSG. It's working: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=b4yc1w&s=5 Seems eyebrows aren't as easy to do as I initially thought, technically or aesthetically.
  3. You were right. The alpha channel was blank. I thought the Nvidia plugin was supposed to do this automatically, but apparently it doesn't. Thanks! I didn't know to look there. I can figure it out from here!
  4. Okay, thanks. I appreciate you trying to help. Uhm ... where can I see if the file has this property? Oh, I see now why you think it might be transparency: the only reason the game would make that circle is if it is using parallax displacement mapping with the texture. I did add an alpha layer in DX3, and DX5 does this automatically, and neither of those exports worked, either.
  5. If someone could add a tutorial on how to retexture eyebrows and other parts of the face, that would be great. I've run into a big problem while trying to retexture the eyebrow .dds files. Can anyone help?
  6. Do you mean the DX type? I tried 1, 3 and 5. I even switched from 'colour' to 'grey' maps, just to see if that would fix it; all that did was make the eyebrows invisible, but the circle was still there, except it was grey (duh) and slightly lighter. So you're saying I might have removed transparency somehow ... Is there a way for me to copy the transparency layer from the original? Or should I just add a new transparent/semi-transparent (?) layer to the .dds? Addendum: STSG, David Brasher here says that .dds files aren't supposed to have more than one layer, and that you're not supposed to load mipmaps when you're retexturing. When I originally worked on the file, I did not load mipmaps, and I did not have more than one layer open in photoshop ...
  7. For some reason I can't vote in OP's poll. Anyway: Obviously they're denigrating. There's nothing 'immersive' about wearing what amounts to a metal handkerchief on your breasts, vagina and butt, and leaving everything else open to attack. But, like others have said, TES is about fantasy, and modders are just extending this idea to include sexual fantasy. I don't know what the case was with Oblivion, but I'm glad to see that at least the men are being as objectified as are the women in this installment. Quid pro quo. When/if I finally get a grasp on this modding thing, I plan to release some more period-appropriate attire for women and men, so not all mods are going to be skin-fests ... Addendum: even 'boob-pouches' on armours are completely unrealistic. I'd rather Bethesda'd used the male armour models and just cinched the waist in a bit.

    Inheritance

Where I live you can totally disinherit blood relatives, unless doing so would somehow go against the country's constitution. (It's a long document and has a lot of stipulations about dignity, human rights, children's rights, etc.) It would be too convoluted to explain all of the possible exceptions to disinheriting someone, so I'll just say that common sense usually applies to will disputes. Similarly to nintii's country, in mine you can place everything you own in a trust fund, and then nobody will be able to touch it. Courts are much more formal, literal and strict about company/business/commercial law than they are about personal/private/constitutional law, so if I were to place my belongings in a trust fund and I then died, I doubt family members could do a thing about being disinherited.
  9. I've extracted the eyebrows from the texture.bsa. I imported the .dds into photoshop (malebrow_5, FYI), doubled the image size, tweaked it (made it less bushy), and then I exported the file. When I tested it in the character creation screen, this was the resultant mess: (Okay ... image uploading doesn't seem to work. Go here for a visual of the problem: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2wc2ufc&s=5) What am I doing wrong? Is there something specific I'm supposed to tell the Nvidia plugin to do? I tried a couple of different settings, all with the same result ... Am I supposed to add a new normal map for this brow? I don't see why- the game only has one normal map for all of the male brows. Please help- TheBaer
  10. Because .bsa is a compressed collection of all the files the game needs, which the game decompresses on the fly as it needs them, if you uncompress them and get the game to recognise them, then it should run a lot faster and better than it does with the compressed .bsa In theory, anyway. The only problem is, you have to change Skyrim.ini, because otherwise what the game does is reference BOTH the .bsa and the uncompressed files. This puts a strain on your PC; it's doing the same job twice; which is why if you have too many mods installed you'll get stuttering and CTDs. So now I just need someone to tell me what to write in the Skyrim.ini in order to be able to play the game uncompressed. It'd also help me speed up mod efforts ... I'm new to this and seeing the files laid out properly in folders helps me understand what I'm doing a lot better than imagining it in my head. (I'm a visual learner.) So ... Anyone? I'd really, really appreciate it.
  11. So you just have to give them the same name as the file? I'm assuming this means they have to be found in the right place ... e.g. Data/Textures/Trolls/xxx.whatever Great. Thanks. Anyone know the answer to question 1? Do I need to change anything in the Skyrim.ini file to be able to run Skyrim without .bsa files?
  12. I know you're all probably amazing modders and you're tired of answering these questions. I've done days' worth of research on all of this; this is not me being lazy. I need some clarity on the following, which I haven't been able to find a concise, exact explanation for: 1. If I want to run Skyrim on uncompressed files- i.e. extracted .bsa files- what do I have to do? I have the BSA Unpacker, and have unpacked everything, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to type in skyrim.ini and I'm not sure where I'm supposed to place the unpacked BSAs. I know the unpacked content goes into /Data, but do I have to put it in folders called 'Skyrim - Animations' or 'Animations' or ...? Basically, how do I organise what I've unpacked so that Skyrim can recognise it (in lieu of the .bsa files). 2. If I create my own mod of, say, a sound file, how do I get Skyrim to recognise my mod instead of the original file? And how do I pack it/zip it/whatever so that people who want to use the mod will be able to do so? I think that's it.
  13. Ugh, sorry, saw only now that I posted it in the Skyrim troubleshooting section ... New here. Thanks.
  14. If I'm online, it starts to update, and about halfway through freezes. I can still use it if I'm offline. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there any fixes?
