  1. FYI my complete PC crash/back screen/reboot/shutdown issues have all been fixed with a replacement video card.
  2. After too many false starts and red herrings, I'm sending my video card in for RMA replacement. I currently think my problem is caused by a failing video card. I've tried to document what I could with regard to troubleshooting here: http://one-miguel.blogspot.de/search/label/Skyrim Everything from turning off speedstep, core parking, Bethesda support, etc, etc. I've put in an older video card since I've packed my GTX 570 for RMA and haven't seen the crash yet. Note that any and all stress tests, diagnostics, etc, don't show any issues with the video card. But the logic can't be denied: change video card, problem goes away. Must be the video card.
  3. Mingus, I'm practically in the same boat as you, including the new hardware. But it's the software. The only way software can cause the issues we are seeing is if it has a severe memory allocation problem. I *think* the problem is with how the engine allocates memory to certain things. I have a save game file that ALWAYS crashes at the same place. One successful experiment was UNMAPPING FAVORITES and that seemed to work. Just go into spells, select Favorites and un favorite everything, same with weapons and armor. Then just add a few back. I can get past the crash area with ONLY THAT CHANGE. If you PM me, ill send you my save file to test with. Try cleaning up your inventory and favorites. Also if you have a ton of open quests, try clearing them out. Always start with a power off then boot to windows to ensure there is no GARBAGE in memory. Bethesda has said that certain actions in certain order could cause problems - they are trying to identify the root causes, but these things still happen. This would explain why a relative few of the millions are having the issues we are having. HTH
  4. I have some more progress - I have a save game that consistently crashes. It's in Dragonsreach and when I exit the front door, the loading screen happens and before it shows the world again, it crashes the whole computer: monitor signal disappears, sound loops, system crashed - have to power off manually. I tried several iterations: * Move video card around * Add/remove sound card * Unfavorite all spells * Unfavorite all weapons * Remove all armor/weapons The last three did it - I was able to get past the front door after I un-favorited all the spells. I also removed all weapons and armor. I suspect I have some item in my inventory that the game freaks out on. If anyone wants to try my save game (it's about 9MB), let me know via private message and I'll email it (or make it available) for you to download and run to see if it crashes on your system.
  5. I was able to pinpoint a repeatable crash with a save file in dragonsreach. I would load the save file and walk out to whiter un and consistently crash the whole system. I just tried it with th enbdev patch and IT DIDN'T CRASH. So this is what progress feels like....
  6. The promising thing from your post is disabling the auto-saving. The last time I crashed, I loaded the second to last autosave game and then made a new one and loaded it. So far I've crashing once every 10-20 hours, but that's still one time too many. This is the black screen/sound looping/reboot required crash. What is your theory on why the autosaves are corrupting? I'll post back if it works. My current setup/test cycle is: No overclocking, all defaults 2600k 16GB RAM Gigabyte GTX 570 Gigabyte motherboard Onboard audio (removed SB card from earlier test cycle) Only the official HD textures mod 1.4 patch Core Parking disabled *NEW* Autosaving disabled via config file from your post Question: what is the definition of "it works"? 10 hours? 20 hours? 40 hours? I guess we may never really know since the crashes (at least mine) are intermittent and unpredictable.
  7. I have almost the same hardware and the same issues. So far I've been able fix it with disabling Core Parking. http://one-miguel.blogspot.com/2012/01/skyrim-crashrebooting-fix-disable-core.html Try it and let me know if it works...
  8. I would have to wholeheartedly disagree - once I got the game working (see above), I've spent hours and hours and hours immersed in a beautifully rendered and engrossing game. Aside from the technical issues, this is quite possibly the largest AND most beautifully rendered (assuming you have the hardware) game I've seen to date.
  9. I was getting the same problems: rebooting/freezing/monitors off in Skyrim. Everything else worked. Literally. I would run three benchmarks each for CPU, GPU and memory and no issues for over 7 hours. Finally, I think I may have solved the problem by disabling Speedstep. For some reason, Skyrim doesn't like it on my system. I can play EVERYTHING ELSE just fine. Anyway, you can try it by disabling the following BIOS settings: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) C3/C6 State Support CPU EIST Function I documented my findings here for reference: http://one-miguel.blogspot.com/2012/01/skyrim-troubleshooting-compilation.html Please do let me know if it works or not...
