  1. Yesterday I killed a bear and it sank right into the ground until it was completely gone. I wondered if I was standing on quick sand or a sinkhole or something and kept stamping around in circles but nothing. It was just an interdimensional bear I guess!
  2. My toon is a Bibliomaniac. I both read and collect them. Since this is my first Elder Scrolls game, at first I was just trying to familiarize myself with the lore of the world. Now I keep my main library in one trunk in Whiterun. Duplicate copies go on bookshelves, organized by topics. If I come across a new quest I will review all my lore in that area: Dwemer or Daedra or Dunmer history or whatever else is at hand. My toon tries to be honest, but finding a new book is just too much for her and she is apt to steal first editions, even from friendly Jarls.
  3. Leona is heading east from Riften to the cursed orc stronghold. She has a warhammer to return to them. She had sworn to keep clear of Daedra but her soft heart betrayed her again. The Vigilants are mad at her and whatever crazy Daedric gift Malacanth is going to grant her, she doesn't want it. She just wanted to help the poor cursed orcs.
  4. This is totally awesome....and it is me! I need a Skyrim intervention! I keep stacking up those old suits of armor and the dragon bones...
  5. Hilarious account. I have a similar one.... My character Leona had this on-again off-again relationship with Belrand the mercenary battle mage. Usually I found him carousing in the Winking Skeever in Solitude, but the last time...I told him to wait in my house as I went to High Hrothgar to commune with the Graybeards. When I finally got home he was gone. I guess he got tired of waiting; he was never as patient as Lydia (may she rest in peace.) When he didn't come back and he didn't return to the Winking Skeever, Leona gave him up for dead. Maybe he got eaten by a cave bear or something. So I hired other followers and set forth again. Some time later I started the series of Temple of Mara quests. I reunited three lovers while wearing the Amulet of Mara. As I reunited the final pair out in the plains near Rorikstead. suddenly Belrand turned up. I whispered to Mjoll to make herself scarce, re-hired him, proposed to him immediately, and dragged his wandering arse home. We journeyed together to Riften for the wedding. I helped him dress in elegant ebony mail. But on the wedding day, he showed up for the ceremony clad in his old iron armor. Leona and Belrand spoke their vows and as soon as that was done, he said sometning about "being together forever" and without so much as a kiss he made a break for the exit. He said something about "where shall we live?" as he disappeared again. Leona searched for him at the Bee and Barb where they had been staying and at both of her two houses. She concluded that he had dumped her and went back to Riften and hooked up with Mjoll again and adventured. Months later she came back to Solitude and found Belrand at the inn where they had first met. He admitted he was married and I told him to move into Pridehome with me, where I am certain he is up to something with my house thrall behind my back. He has transformed from the fierce Nord mercenary I married into this sweet househusband who keeps murmuring "Yes dear" as he wanders around in his pajamas. So yes Bethesda really really needs to work on the scripting of this marriage stuff. The only part that was really great was when Belrand came back to me as the culmination of the Temple of Love quest. For a while I was wondering if the programming was smart enough to send a "suitable suitor" my way right at that moment, but reading others accounts it was probably just one of those great random coincidences.
  6. I am sneaking up to a Nord ruin, scouting it out, and here comes a Draugar skellie with a Greatsword chasing a fox.
  7. My first Elder scrolls game, my first character. I started the Main Quest right away, following the instructions to go to Riverwood, to go to Whiterun, etc. When they told me to go see the Graybeards at like level 5 I said, hey slow this down. I barely knew how to walk without tripping on my armor. So I ran away from my "responsibilities" as the Dragonborn and knocked around the world. Dragons keep spawning on me everywhere I go....they are a pain in the butt and they seem to be trashing the countryside and killing off NPCs including named ones sometimes. So around level 35 I decided to revisit the MQ...finally went to see the Graybeards, hooked up with the Blades. I'm working that now. Level 45 and delving into Alfand. My advice is definitely way till you have some levels on you before you start this. I will follow this through on this character to the end but mean to start another who doesn't mess with dragons at all.
  8. It does seem to be fixed. I went back to Sky Haven Temple and the problem did not reoccur. Was getting a similar freeze in Windhelm whenever I left the Candlelight Inn and I am suspecting that may be related to doing parts of the "Blood on the Ice" quest out of order. (For some reason although I have chosen the Imperial side in the war, the guards in this city are still willing to hire me as an investigator.) Seem to have by-passed that too for the moment and managed to complete that quest.
  9. I'm working on the main quest line. I just got into the Sky Haven Temple at level 42. I see Dragonrend on a table. Should I pick it up? My understanding is that this is a leveling weapon and if I want it to be max power I shouldn't get it till I am level 46. Is the level already set since I have entered the zone? Or does the level get set when I equip it?
  10. I think I got it fixed...at least I can play. Apparently the script of Esbern's lecture begins when I enter the area of Alduin's wall. He talks quite a bit. Then the dialogue shifts to Delphine and the script wants me to chat with her a bit. Esbern talks more and when this dialogue is complete that ends the Alduin's Wall quest and starts the Voice of the World one. My problem is that I spent too much time poking around the Temple and fiddling with things. The first step in Voice of the World says to go back to High Hrothgar and learn new shouts. The segment that causes the lockup seems to be started by hailing Delphine. Then Esbern gives his prophecy and then everything locks up. I find that I can leave the Temple without hailing Delphine without triggering this segment and continue to play. I am afraid if I return and talk to her at all it will happen again. Maybe if I follow the quest line and visit the Graybeards I can by-pass the bugged segment. Is this the right place to submit bug reports and fixes?
  11. Okay I found the controls such as they are. Yeah almost no graphic settings... I doubt it's the audio either as none of that has been changed since I got the game and it didn't do this before. I turned off all the autosave features. That didn't fix the problem. I started a new character since the old one is stuck. That one is not freezing so far. Is there any way to label these SAVE files on this console or put them in separate directories? All the program seems to offer me is a number and location and doesn't seem to differentiate saves of different characters.
  12. If there is a place to adjust that type of thing on xbox, I don't see it.
  13. I'm on my first character and this is my first Bethesda game. I've played in MMORPGs a lot, like Everquest and Warcraft. Wrestling with some of these same issues. I started as an Imperial and thought of her as a kind of merchant-fighter type. That part is working out well. She thinks of herself as honest but has a real greedy streak. She tries not to kill, or steal from honest fellow citizens, but thieves and disgusting Falmer are fair game. She has sided with the Imperials in the War but feels guilty about killing Stormcloaks, who she sees as misguided. She harries the Thalmor with relish as she has decided they are the "true" enemy. She just finished wiping out a Forsworn Redoubt and is wracked with guilt over all the dead bodies she left... again, misguided fools. She is presently wrestling with the question of whether to join the thieves guild in order to infiltrate it, or whether any compromise would be a mistake. It kind of boggles me the number of evil quests for powerful artifacts I have run across, without corresponding good ones. I have half a dozen Daedric quests in my quest log which I don't want to do as my character doesn't want to spread evil in the world. I've been searching the Temples for equivelent quests and power from the Aedra and I just don't see them. Not that I want to transform into a Paladin type, but I'm getting the idea that, as a Dragonborn, my moral choices may well transform the world. If I have to ally with Daedra in order to save the world, I may become a kind of demon myself, just as I see the possibility to act as a kind of avatar of Talos. So my character is scouring the world for good allies and ways to avoid becoming a Daedric pawn. So far the Blades seem like the only allies with a clue, and they are pretty much of neutral alignment.
  14. My first post here.... My first Bethesda game and I'm pretty new to using an Xbox. . . but I'm an old hand at RPG and MMORPGs. I am loving Skyrim. Lately I am having trouble with the game freezing up at various points. From what I can see, the problem seems related to bugs in various scripted events. Like if there is a long scripted dialogue with NPCs, the game may freeze up if I try to leave the room before the script is complete. Today I have come to a complete halt with a bug like this. I was working on the Alduin's Wall quest and got into Sky Haven Temple with Esbern and Delphine. Esbern gives his long series of lectures about the wall and the Dragonborn prophecy. The Alduin's Wall quest completes, Throat of the World quest begins. At this point in the script Delphine says something about exploring the rest of the Temple and starts to move. And the game freezes hard. This happens whether or not I complete other dialogues with these NPCs, whether I stay near them or move away, and even if I run out of the Temple to escape this prophecy of doom and Fast Travel to another city. Esbern's prophetic declamation is REALLY the end of the world! The game freezes hard. I have to turn off the console get any buttons on the controller to respond. I have tried loading the game onto the console hard drive and clearing the cache with no improvement. Suggestions? Newaryon
