  1. Had this last night finishing off the 'cornered rat' quest. I _think_ I disabled the 'skyrim unofficial patch' mod or was it my enb settings, then reloaded and it worked, so it seemed like a conflict. Chris
  2. I can't tell you what will fix your grapcal images but there are a number of things you can try to identify the cause. It could be drivers or some other windows/gpu driver issue ie software or a physical problem with the card or motherboard, or just trying to run the card too hard. I was borrowing a card from a friend to play skyrim and sometimes got graphical problems and crashes, i then borrowed a different card and never had a problem again (such generous friends!) I never found out what the actual cause was tho both were gtx460's using the latest drivers on a very clean windows 7 install. Your best approach is a process of elimination to try to find what's at fault. How does it behaves when run on lower settings? Have you tried older driver versions? Remove and reinsert the gpu card ensuring it is well seat, sounds stupid but seen it fix things before. Ask a friend to try your card Try a different card Clean windows install Buy a nice shiny new card ! Good luck Chris
  3. Frustrating isnt it! The op mentioned location based ctd, my son recently started getting this around falkreath and after a bit of searching it sounded like this area is a bit bugged. Whilst searching on this we came across two suggests mod conflict/issues, one being smim and the other potential being SOS, both of which we have installed. Removing smim made no diffence, but for SOS there was a patch mod that I happened to have downloaded but not installed, after applying that it seems top have resolved his problem. Of course, there is no saying that this would in any way likely fix anyone else's problem, but you never know. Chris
  4. You might want to look at using the mod organiser tool which allows you to have different profiles or sets of mods and does it all without touching your skyrim folder so that never gets messed up. It also has a useful feature that shows what mods are being used by a save game. My son and I play on the same pc using different profiles and it works great, I really don't understand why more folk don't use it. When it comes to trying new mods you just use the tool to make a copy of your profile, add your new mods then go and try it knowing that your previous mod setup is just a click away. if you wanted to use different characters with different mod sets then a few simple batch files to copy the save games around would sort that too. Chris
  5. Well I managed to resolve the problem, not a fix but a work around. The reason i wanted to remove this mod was to swap it for another player home which happens to be in the same spot, riverside lodge. I got around it by renaming one of the other mods I'm already using to be the same as the one I was trying to remove and it all worked great. So whatever was going on, it wasn't bothered about what was actually in the mod it was just insisting on loading a mod named retreat.esm. Go figure! Chris
  6. Thanks again for the replies, I'll go and checkout the comments on the mod thread. Chris
  7. Thanks for the reply. What I can't understand is why it would ctd before I've even chosen a save game to load, or what is forcing it to load the mod at thi stage. Chris
  8. I've got a problem trying to run the game after removing a mod which I can't understand. Firstly, the mod is the 'davohkin retreat', a single ESP file Secondly, I use the 'mod organizer' tool to manage my mods When I remove the mod, skyrim ctd after the Bethesda splash screen fades out, before I've even tried to load a save game, that's e bit I can't get my head round, the fact that I haven't tried to load a game. If within mod organiser I include this mod in my profile but leave it actually unticked on the right hand side, which should prevent it from being loaded, the game runs and loads but continues to load the mod despite it being disabled. The moment I remove it from my profile the game refuses to load. I don't have this problem with any other mod and the only way Ive gotten around it is to do a complete clean install of the game, a real pita. Any ideas? Chris
  9. Sometimes I've had this and find loading an older save kicks it into action, however that's not going to help you much now. I would uninstall the game, then go and delete any remaining skyrim folder and maybe delete the skyrim ini files from your games folder,, perhaps rename the folder they are in to get your saves back. Basically, remove any trace of it rom your pc then do a full clean reinstall from scratch and see what happens. Do you know where the relevant folders are? Chris
  10. Funnily, I just made this video... http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p132/chrisspb/Skyrim/TESV2012-04-1619-32-37-76.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p132/chrisspb/Skyrim/TESV2012-04-1619-32-47-86.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p132/chrisspb/Skyrim/TESV2012-04-1619-35-47-95.jpg
  11. Hi folks, Any ideas how I can get sort out these triplets? I've know idea how I've ended up with multiples. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p132/chrisspb/Skyrim/TESV2012-04-0919-31-58-32.jpg Chris
  12. Thanks for the replies, never noticed the Unofficial skyrim patch before, it certainly seems to fix a lot of stuff! I'll download it and go hunting some dragons and see what happens. Thanks again, Chris
  13. The last couple of dragons I've killed I have not absorbed any dragon souls, they just lie there dead. Is there any reason for this or is it a bug of some sort? Chris
  14. An idea from a friend who thought it might be neat to have a grave or graveyard type mod so that if your favorite follower is kia you can 'bury' them somewhere, maybe outside your house depending on location or whatever, complete with a headstone and maybe inscription or something. We then expanded this and thought it would be cool if you could cast a spell that would bring them back as a 'ghost' follower for a period of time or just to view them. Anyhows, no idea if anything like that would be feasible or of any interest to anybody, just a random idea. Chris
  15. Thanks for the replies, you all restrained yourselves well! It's almost certainly going to be a 2GB 69xx or 560ti. The OS is installed on a 60GB SSD, I've tried to keep it clean and install everything non-OS on a regular SATA drive. I might look at getting a separate SSD for the skyrim, a bit OTT but they are super fast thats for sure! I tried oc'ing the i5-2500K cpu and got it running at 4.2GHz no problem, didn't leave it there tho since I had no need for it at the time and with the Corsair H100 hyrdo cooling it didn't get above mid-30's, so there is plenty of scope here to. Thanks again for your advice, just got to spend the dosh now. Chris
  16. I'm sure this topic has been done to death, but would appreciate some advice as I'm not sure what the benefits are of some of the gpu options. Coming from the console world, Skyrim will be my first PC game and I'm wanting to play it with all the great mods/textures that I can reasonably get away with. Existing relevant hardware consists of I5-2500K, 1920x1080 monitor, 8GB ram and crappy onboard graphics. PSU will be upgraded. I already found that my mobo doesn't support sli, only xfire and I don't really want to replace it right now cos it's barely two months old, but if sli offers me significant benefits then I would consider it. I also understand that there are/maybe xfire issues with the game at the moment, but am prepared for them to be fixed in due course. Considered options (overclocking where possible) 1) GTX560ti single 2) Radeon 6850 single or xfired? 3) Radeon 6950 2GB single 4) GTX 460 overclocked - but need new mobo $$$$ How do you think a pair of xfire 6850 would compare to a single 560TI ? What difference will 2GB of vram make over 1GB? How would the performance vary between a single 2GB card and two sli/xfire 1GB cards? Sorry for asking what must seem like dumb questions, but performance gpu's is totally new to me. Cheers! Chris
