  1. Since I upgraded to 1.6 several quests have cropped up again, ones that I've previsouly completed. First it was the bandits at Valtheim Towers, I was approaching it and saw it was re-populated with bandits, after killing them off I was presented with the quest complete message telling me to return to the guy in Whiterun to collect my bounty. To prove it was 1.6 update I went back to 1.5 and loaded the same savegame and the towers were deserted. So I just dismissed this one as a glitch. But then it happened again over the last few evenings... Whilst doing a quest I kept finding books about the Red Eagles sword and now that quest has once again become active on my quest list. Finally, the eldergleam quest reactivated last night, not sure what triggered it, but when I went to the cave unlike the first time when I got the guy to follow me up to the tree and I took a sapling, this time I couldn't get that to happen and I had to activate the tree and take the sap then deal with the spriggans afterwards. It's one way to extend the gameplay I guess, but (by my choice) I still haven't completed the main quest yet after 240+ hours. Anybody else experienced anything like this? Chri
  2. And if you use a mod tool like mod organizer, it works in a 'magic' way that doesn't touch your original skyrim folders so they never get messed up. Chris
  3. Two things, you probably have some files left over that you've missed and secondly make sure you don't use a save game that was created with any mods installed. I'll attach a text file that contains the directory and file structure of a clean 1.6 skyrim. If you still appear to have leftovers after ensuring there are no more files left hanging around, maybe you have over-written an original file. HTH Chris
  4. You need to edit some settings in your ini file. Search the forums a little more and you'll find them. Chris
  5. Thanks for the replies, about the only bit I hadn't done was to actually go and buy the spell tomes! My character is pretty well perked up in the destruction tree, I'm just missing the actual spells to use. I've played with the Apocalypse spell mod for a bit of fun but usually end up reverting to using good old standard dual-wielded firebolts but it gets a bit tedious in the end using the same old spell when I'm supposed to be a mage. I shall go and spend some gold on the tomes and begin wreaking havoc with my new powers! Thanks Chris
  6. My character is a mage-come-archer and at level 37 the best distruction spell I have is firebolts but I'm getting a bored of toasting everything and want to use my shock/lighting spells instead but they are woefully 'weak' in comparison. I've perked up the distruction tree but that hasn't increased the power of the spell, so how do I go about improving it or where can I find a more powerful one to learn? Chris
  7. A BSD - bluescreen of death - is very often a hardware / driver issue. Give some history of the problem, like it's only just started happening after six months of game play? Hardware specs and game version. Chris
  8. Firstly, before installing any mods does the game load and run? The first time you run it it will create the ini files you are looking for. Do you know where to look for them? Chris
  9. I've only ever seen that message when your save game is missing an 'esp' (mod) file that was being used when it was saved. You might try downloading the 'savegamescanner' tool which will examine your save game file and show you what mods/esp files it is expecting. If you really haven't previously used any mods then it could be that one of the game esp files is missing so try the 'verify cache' feature from inside Steam to see if that finds any problems. Chris
  10. A bit late now, but probably the first thing to have tried before rolling-back would have been to remove the mods and revert to a save game made before you installed the mods. Since you have rolled back, have you double checked that it really has rolled back correctly and removed the mods and have you tried an older save game? Failing all that, looks like a re-install is on the cards. Chris
  11. Also spotted it around my hands in first person mode with fire bolt spell, haven't checked others. I'm glad to see someone else as it as I was thinking it was a glitch with my graphics card or driver issue which was upgraded the same day. Chris
  12. Yesterday Steam decided to complain about not able to run in compatibility mode. Quite why it decided to do this now after running fine the day before I don't know. I went and changed the properties of the steam.exe and all was fine again. Now I did verify my game cache in an attempt to resolve a 'lookup failed' message on my save games after upgrading to 1.6 a few days back but it didnt find any problems. I hate it when this kind of thing happens for no apparent reason, so anybody have any ideas as to why? Chris
  13. Good post, I've definitely spent more than enough time looking at those lines in my log file (amongst the other ten zillion lines) wondering wtf is going on. I really should have a stab at writing a tool to strip orphaned scripts out of a save game, I mean, after working as a programmer for twenty five years how hard cold it be! Chris
  14. Up until recently I was using a borrowed MSI GTX460, 1GB very over-clockable card. I was able to run high settings lots of texture mods and get 60FPS all over the place except for in Whiterun where I had added a lot of other enviromental mods. I've just upgraded to an HD7970 3GB which is a beast of a card, but the 460 was fantastic for its money and very over-clockable. Chris
  15. Spooky, sounds a bit like something which happened to me the other night. The player home we have has a load of manequins just inside the door and when we entered all their heads turned to face us - freaky! Chris
  16. Search for 'SavegameScanner', sure it's a mod on here somewhere. The Mod Organizer tool also has a couple of features that display this info. Chris
  17. Thanks for the replies, should have replied sooner, but I restarted the game and it worked, simples! Chris
  18. Easy to go back, I kept a copy and use the tool that prevents steam updates (Skyrim Unplugged) so I decide when I want to update my game, then I just need to rename the folders accordingly to switch between versions. Chris
  19. After updating to 1.6 yesterday and generally not finding any mod problems, I did however find that at least one quest appears to have got reset somehow. Whilst travelling round past Valtheim Towers, which I cleared out months ago, the bandits had all re-spawned. After killing them off I was rewarded with the quest 'kill the bandit leader at Valtheim towers' message and got the next step to go and report back to matey in dragons reach for my reward. The quest was not shown in my list, I completed it a long time ago and it had also not re-appered in my list until killing the bandit leader when I got the next step to collect the reward which did reappear in my quest list. Puzzled by all of this, I went back to my copy of 1.5, loaded up to the save I made before reaching the towers and there were no bandits. So it seems upgrading to 1.6 has had a funny moment. Questions are, has anybody else noticed anything like this? Can I check the status of already completed quests using a console command? Are other quests likely to have got screwed up and what is the likely knock on effect? (I don't honestly expect anybody to know the answer to the last couple of questions) Chris
  20. Care to elaborate on that a bit? Chris
  21. Yep, tried that, guess the update wasn't quite so successful after all! Looks like it's time to go looking thru my mods then, tho I don't have any combat/animation replacers which would seem the most obvious. Chris
  22. At the risk of making myself sound completely stupid, how the heck do I get this mounted combat to work now I've downloaded the 1.6 patch? I've tried the most obvious thing of pressing the 'X' button whilst mounted, but nothing happens. Chris (PS The 1.6 update worked flawlessly with all my mods thank the gods!)
  23. Looks like it is an onboard graphics chip, generally they aren't great but should allow you to play the game on medium settings. Before I upgraded my graphics I was using the same intel on board type of graphics and getting mid to high 20 fps on an i5 2500, but it looked awful in comparison to what the game is capable of. Things to check, firstly check what else is running in windows to make sure you are getting as much CPU power to the game, uninstall any bloatware that may have been supplied with the pc and if you are running any anti-virus or malware software check it is not doing a system scan whilst playing. Also check that you're windows and drivers are fully up to date. Next up, adding graphical mods and textures is only likely to result in slower performance so remove them for now, then check what resolution you are playing the game, if 1920x1080 reduce it down a level or two and make sure AA is turned off. There are a number of other graphics tweaks you can do to help improve performance, but you'll need to search the forums to find them. There is also one mod that improves the compression or something of the standard textures which also helps, but sorry I can't remember it's name. Ultimately, I think you'll find yourself wanting to upgrade the graphics card to make the most of the game, so start saving! Chris
