  1. I have to agree with holbrook here. Up untill now, everything i've read has been very concrete: "no permission = no upload". Agree or not, it was the rule. Now it's suddenly "well, if the author disappeared and you can't locate him, it may be ok, we'll see, case by case basis..." Speaking as someone who is learning to mod and would like to see his future work protected, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
  2. In that case, my new playthrough must be bugged. I'm not very far, so i'll start another. But as someone said up above, I could swear i saw in in some developer notes or the ingame description or somewhere something about a reward in addition to the achievement.
  3. Companion quests really seem to be rather counter-intuitive. I managed to complete Veronica, Cass, ed-e, lily, and rex's quests with no problems. I couldn't seem to get Boone or Arcade's quests to even activate. I broke down and looked up walkthrough's for both, and even doing all the things needed, couldn't get thier respective dialogs to work. I think the problem is that the game is geared in such a way as it assumes you're going to travel with 1 or perhaps two favorite companions. why else would the built in triggers be placed in such a way? what are the odds that if you're traveling with boone when you find the crashed vertibird, that you'd ever go back there with arcade for instance? or once you kill the van grafs for cass, why would you think to take arcade back there when you know there's nothing? It seems that the quests are built in such a way that if you do play through with one favorite companion, their dialogs will happen naturally, instead if you want to complete all their quests, you have to backtrack to places you've got no reason to go to. I believe this is part of the designers focus on making choices and sticking to them. Kinda a cool system, exept for those completionists out there like me. :)
  4. I beat the game in hardore last night and got the achievement. Promptly started up a new character, in hardcore because it was more fun. Noticed that my FOD SLP H20 stats never incresae, always staying at 0. Already finished goodsprings and primm with no increse in hunger, etc... I thought maybe that's the "special reward", if so really disapponting because the eating, drinking sleeping was most of the fun of harcore.
  5. talk to your current companion and use the dialog option for "i think we should part ways" or something similar. you'll have the option to let them go home or send them to the Lucky 38. If you didn't know, there's a "talk to" option on the companion wheel.
  6. SOunds to me like it's not so much a quest bug as it is a glitched activator. My modding days are long behind me, but in oblivion you could fix it by replacing the door and creating a new one and making it a new teleporter to the appropriate interior cell. I may be way off, but i seem to remember being able to do it that way.
  7. I've wondered the same thing. Ballistic weapons also have a stat there, though the icon is a bullet (or two, i can't remember) and some have it while others don't.
  8. I don't have any problem with the factions being "grey", but what bugs me is that if you work with all the factions more or less equally, you can gain a pretty good reputation with all of them. (other than the legion of course, and you can keep neutral with them for a long time). Most of the factions aren't really at odds with each other, perhaps not in full agreement, but not shooting on sight either. I could easily imagine the NCR, BoS, and House coming to an agreement very similar to the one that exists, and teaming up against the legion. Especially with the Courier keeping the diplomacy open. After I completed the BoS missions, i really had the impression that they liked me a lot, and would've at least listend to waht i had to say. Same with NCR. I would love to see a mod that allowed you to convince House that the brotherhood was no threat to him, and back that up by convincing the brotherhood to leave House in peace. The NCR could still Govern the area, allowing House to keep control of the strip as long as he behaved. They could continue to support the followers and thier good works, and even allow the brotherhood free reign out in the wastes. The courier would be in a fantastic position to negotiate the treaty, and all the factions would be able to do thier thing once the legion was put down. Seems to me to be the best way to maintain stability in the region, and cause the least collateral damage.
  9. Marthos, this is esactly what i'm saying. It WAS our choice. We knew months in advance that steam was going to be required. Myself, I decided it was worth it. If you didn't want steam, you could've refused to buy FONV. perhaps if enough people did this, bethsoft would've thought twice next time. However, NV pre-sold like mad, and has been doing gangbusters ever since. This tells the company that "we did good, let's follow this formula".
  10. I'm curious what problems the wheel has caused you? i havn't seen any, but that doesn't mean there aren't. Oh, and to hold conversations with your companions, just select "talk to" from the wheel.you can dismiss them from the resulting dialog as well.
  11. Of course, the "to DRM or not to DRM" question is one discussed a lot. I can see both points of view and can argue both. My point really is that these companys are going to do what they're going to do, and we have a choice to buy their products or not. I felt (and still do) that NV was worth breaking down and finally climbing on the Steam wagon. Turns out it's not so bad up here. Can't say i wouldn't rather be without it, but auto updates are nice, the occasional ad thrown my way is obnoxious but still helpful, and i absolutely love not having to have the disc in the drive. It hasn't really disrupted anything or prevented me from playing in any way, other than having to open steam, find the game, then open it. The "download the whole game" thing pissed me off untill i realized it was my fault for not reading the instructions. I find it a net + over securom and similar DRM's. Of course there are those that disagree with me...
  12. Ignore him MrLamar, he has a habit of being rude. From the talks on these forums, I think a lot of people do roleplay. I know I do. My current character is the classic Old-west wandering gun. You know, wander into town, clean it up, then move on once more.
  13. I've read a little about replacating a charecter from FO3, and it involves creating the face in the GECK and setting it as one of the preset faces, then selecting it in game. haven't tried it, so i don't know how well it works.
  14. Unfortunately, these schemes do not stop pirates. Cracked versions come with no Steam and no protection. This may actually lead to an opposite effect, namely "better than legal" problem: people may pirate the game simply because they don't want to cope with all the limitations. I'm not promoting piracy. On the contrary, these are my thoughts on what causes people to pirate games. Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they work. Securom didn't work, neither will steam or the other online verification systems. My point is that If some people didn't feel the need to steal others property, there would be no need for locks on the doors, so to speak. A determined burglar can get into your house regardless of wether or not you lock your doors. But you know that the doorlocks WILL keep the casual crackhead from walking on in. You don't complain about having to carry your housekeys, do you? That's because you're used to it. Doesn't make it right, but it makes it easier.
