  1. I had the same opinion. However, since installing SkyUI and SkyUI-Away, that MCM is a nice piece of kit. Puts all mod configuration screens in one place on the main (esc) menu. Each setting for a given mod has a description that shows at the bottom of the MCM menu. MCM makes configuring mods, that use it, very easy. Gopher has a great video about , which is very helpful. SkyUI and SkyUI-Away does require SKSE. I was using SKSE anyway for a couple of other mods and the Clear Invalid Registrations tweak, so this was no issue for me.
  2. I would like to suggest some type of rating system that would quickly indicate an experience rating required for installing a given mod. The experience rating could be set by the mod authors and/or possibly voted on by mod users. Kinda similar to how the tags system works. As some mods are easily installed simply with copy/paste or NMM (Easy/Moderate Difficulty), some mods require other mods as a prerequisite or an entirely different process to install all together thereby increasing the required knowledge on the mod users part to get the mod installed (Experienced/Advanced Difficulty). There could be three or four steps of increasing difficulty rating, Easy to Advanced. I suggest this due to the type of post I am seeing more and more frequently in various mod pages. The type of post that immediately indicates the poster has no or very little experience with installing mods and is trying to install a mod that requires advanced knowledge of how mod installation works (ie: the various tools required, load orders and installation procedures). As most experienced mod users should know, most mods are made the way they are for a specific reason due to game engine requirements or other limitations. Possibly a Difficulty Rating could help remedy some of the apparent shock that some users express when a given mod is dependent on another mod or tool in order to be installed and work properly. As to how easy/hard or viable this would be to implement, I do not know. One last note, Here's to a successful data cluster move!
  3. Happy Birthday Nexus! Thanks for being and staying here. Kudos all around for the Nexus staff.
  4. I have not tried it on this driver, yet. I was thinking that the CCC settings were still borked and would not override the game settings. But I may just give it a try. I am almost scared to try anything now that Skyrim is seemingly stable. Edit: I am running uGrids 7.
  5. Priceless! Yeah, Skyrim has been grinding the heck outta my gears. Have a ATI6970 2GB card and Skyrim is running on Ultra settings 8x AA and 16x AF (set in the Launcher). Was using the 12.1 preview driver since January, but with the Skyrim 1.5.26 patch, started getting game freezes and CTDs. Tried the 12.4 beta driver, it worked for a while, then the freezing/crashes returned. Went back to the 12.1 preview driver after reinstalling Skyrim. Had the game make new .ini files. Skyrim was mostly fine, rare freezing issues after several hours of play. Last night, still on the 12.1 preview driver, started getting game freezes/CTDs every 5 minutes. :wallbash: The freezing issues got really bad in the Fort Amol area. So, installed the 12.4 WHQL driver and FPS dropped 15 to 20 FPS on my rig (did not play long enough to test for game freezes). That FPS drop is unacceptable ATI, so I uninstalled 12.4, and installed the 12.3 WHQL driver. At the same time I uninstalled the Realtek 2.68 sound driver I was using and did not reinstall it (just using the sound driver Windows 7 x64 installed). The 12.3 driver returned the FPS back to the normal levels I had, in the range of 40 to 60 FPS. Now after 2+ hours of gameplay, in the same area of Fort Amol and eastward, I have had no more game freezes. So it appears either, the 12.3 ATI driver fixed the freezing issues or not reinstalling the Realtek sound driver fixed the freezing issues or both, for now....
  6. I went from 2GB to 4GB and it did make a difference. Not just in Oblivion but across the board.
  7. Interesting. I have not had that issue with Streamline. However, if one of my companions is talking and a Streamsave is made, the cache purge that occurs during the save will cut their conversation short, sometimes thankfully. :) Maybe it is a memory issue? I am now using the Oblivion RAM Booster technique, running 4GB system memory, with pretty good results. I had to make the change outlined for the RAM Booster technique to both Oblivion.exe and the obse_loader.exe.
  8. Since you are using all those, then there still may be a mod conflict causing the crashing issue. What the conflict is, I have no idea. I would try and see if there are any mods that modify the same things first, then look at mods that add/change any scripts. I have had some issues with scripted mods conflicting with other seemingly unrelated mods. I am just using the SWAG method here, it's just down to seek and find what mod is the culprit. Hope you can get it sorted.
  9. Well, Fast Exit 2 will only prevent crashes when exiting the game, not prevent crashes while playing. The best way I have found to remedy crashes while playing, is to at least use OBMM to install mods and BOSS to organize the load order. I also use Wrye Bash for the Bashed Patch feature, but you should be able to stabilize Oblivion somewhat with OBMM and BOSS. One thing to look out for with BOSS. If you have not used it on an existing install of Oblivion and you have manually set the load order, be aware it might not let a particular savegame load after changing the load order with BOSS. The best insurance for this issue, is to back up your load order with OBMM, first, prior to running BOSS. If the changes BOSS makes to your load order cause a save to not load, you can revert back to what you had previously with OBMM. I, unfortunately, learned this the hard way. :) Before I started using BOSS and Wrye Bash, I would have those regular, short interval, crashes. Now that I am using OBMM, BOSS, and Wrye Bash, in-game crashes are few and far between. They still occur on occasion, but only after playing for several hours, ie. multiple quests, travel to multiple cities, etc. Now, having previously stated that the Streamline Fast Exit is not quite as good as Fast Exit 2, Streamline does have some features I use. The cache purge feature alone is worth installing Streamline. The autosave feature in Streamline has bailed me out more than a few times.
  10. You are welcome! One other thing, in the Fast Exit 2 download there is a folder called src. You do not need those files, those are the source files for modders. You will only need what is in the Data folder from the download. Edit: Make sure you do not have any other "fast exit" type mods running at the same time. I would recommend if you want to use Fast Exit 2, then only use FE2.
  11. Well, Fast Exit 2 requires at least OBSE 16. If you have obse installed and working, it is just a matter of copying the FastExit2.dll to the Oblivion/Data/obse/plugins folder. If you have obse installed and there are no obse/plugins folders, just create them. The Fast Exit 2 download contains the correct install directory. To use it, just exit Oblivion through the normal exit game menus. Just make sure to save your game first. :)
  12. is this similar to auto-quit? my game will crash every now adn then, but I don' know if Auto-quit does anything about that. I have found the Fast Exit 2 to work the best. It not only quits without crashing, but saves changes to your Oblivion.ini file. Changes like, screenshot count for example. I have used Fast Exit 2 for over a year and have not crashed on exit since. Streamlines fast exit would still crash occasionally.
  13. If you are in the US, GoGamer dot com has Oblivion GOTY for PC, in their 48 Hour Madness Sale, right now, for $1.90 plus shipping! Yes, that is one dollar and ninety cents. Enjoy!
