Thanks to everyone for their contributions here. This trouble began for me upon entering Forelhost Catacombs. I could continue to play and save if I didn't enter the catacombs, but if I went through the door... CTD on save every time. As per the guidance here, I modified EngineFixes.ini to <SaveGameMaxSize = true> and applied the fix from comment #28 in this forum. Instead of SkyBirds, I had Birds of Skyrim installed and removed it. In the save prior to entering the catacombs, ReSaver indicated one unattached instance, and one undefined element from FrostFall. I care more about FF than a bunch of annoying birds, so I dumped Birds of Skyrim. After these changes, I was able to play into the catacombs, save, and load with no problems (yet). I'll let ya know if that changes. BTW, I also have Legacy of the Dragonborn, and both Diverse Dragons and Deadly Dragons installed.

I experienced this problem for the first time today, after months of care-free Vortex operation. I was following NORDIC SKYRIM - Yet another guide to modding your Skyrim SE. The file access problem occurred when I attempted to reinstall skyHUD to reset the options. I did this soon after installing the Bethesda Creation Kit (culprit?). The files in "<Game Directory>\Data\interface\skyhud" were all set to "Read-only". I was able to change the read-only attribute after signing off and back in to my Windows account. Vortex again seems to be happy.

I've set up for an initial test run on my i7 9th gen, 1660ti, 16G ram, SSD setup. I started a new life as a home owner. With Dovahkiin's Warehouse installed, I would get a CTD when I tried the initial exit via the front door of my player home. I could enter the outside world via the Warehouse. I disabled Dovahkiin's Warehouse in Vortex, rebashed, and started agailn. I was able to play for a few hours without problems around my player home. However, after my carriage ride to Solitude, I cannot move into the Blue Palace throne room without CTD. Here's my load order: 1. Skyrim.esm 2. Update.esm 3. Dawnguard.esm 4. HearthFires.esm 5.
