  1. In response to post #41141910. #41154895 is also a reply to the same post. My typical recommendation is use the 'XKCD method' for computer login and the password manager, then use the password manager to generate unique passwords for every thing else. The primary reason behind this it to minimize the number of accounts compromised should any site have a breach and they didn't follow best-practices for hashing password (or worse, didn't hash them at all). My other suggestion is using a non-sms based two-factor authentication where ever possible.
  2. I've also experienced the fake flash download. One of the ads in the cycle will redirect the user away from nexus and start a download of a fake adobe installer. It does not require any interaction by the user to begin downloading (Chrome blocked the download, but I don't believe it will auto-install after downloading). I'm not sure which is causing the redirect, but the url it redirect me to is "eeshealphafm.org" (I have the full url path if it is helpful to the site admins).
  3. In response to post #15575285. #15576435 is also a reply to the same post. Do a full virus scan of your computer, not just the files you downloaded.
  4. In response to post #15580615. It is unlikely that someone would go to these lengths for revenge. More likely, it became apparent to a cyber criminal that nexus could be a valuable target due to the size of its audience and users trust of file downloads. By planting viruses on the site, they could infect computers with malware/spyware that could attempt to steal sensitive information from your computer and online activity.
  5. In response to post #11159677. I don't think is quite as straight forward as that. A server garbing one big file is actually less strain on the network than a bunch of small files. A 10 100kB files vs 1MB file your not going to see a significant performance difference, but scaled up to the level Dark0ne is talking about. Having 200 files being downloaded at a time per user causes a lot of database lookups to occur, resulting in a huge amount of random reads on the disk (random reads and random writes to disk are generally the most time consuming I/O operations). Basically its not so much a problem of data throughput to user(though that does play a factor) but amount of time it takes the web servers to lookup each file being downloaded by users. The more files (not necessarily more GBs) causes the database servers and file servers to work harder. I'm in I.T. at a research group and a little bit of a storage nerd so this stuff is very interesting to me.
  6. Reason for war There are two ways to get what you want, compromise or force. In compromise you trade something you both equal value for what it is that your after, be it a object or service. Force is when greed trumps reason, and you wish to take without giving in return. Of course when you mix in the human idea of Justice then things get a little tricky. Someone could have taken something by force and you wish to take it back in order to restore balance. However, in this process one third party may see this as acceptable (what occurred is trading force with force) , while another may see this as hypocritical and dangerous (fighting fire with fire leaves the whole world burned). Despite all of this the only clear to why there is war is simply greed and ignorance.
  7. Seeing that the doctor said you should be dead, and your obviously not, I would say you luck is pretty good considering the circumstances. I wish you a speedy recovery :)
  8. I don't like the use of trigger words are used in politics for two reasons. 1. Often they are trying to hid a lack of knowledge, or not wanting to show the whole picture 2. When enough people catch on to number 1, they will under react when the situation really is dire, or not give something important the attention it needs. Trigger words should alert you and make you look for real information to decide for yourself if this really is important, or if they are just trying to sell you something. Crying wolf? Politicians use trigger words to paint their opponents in the worst possible light. (and thereby, supposedly making them look more 'reasonable'....) It's one of those words that has developed negative connotations, and it seems to be 'in vogue' at the moment. Next month, it will be something else. (or, maybe 'next election'... who knows..... it's a lot like womens skirts, hem lines go up and down, as do the relevance of certain words.) Was crying wolf directed at me or what I was explaining? but yeah I agree with the negative connotations part, I meant to include in my last post that using "trigger words" are not inherently bad things but depend on the context in which they are used. Btw... is there any actual term for what these words are called, I'm not sure if trigger word is actually correct, that is just what the instructor of my public speaking course called them.
  9. Pills for me were just an example, some people really need them others they don't cooperate will with them :/. Anyway as far as martial arts goes, I would suggest more of a sport martial art, opposed to something self-defense or combat oriented (like Taekwondo with a focus on forms or Tai Chi), and you would be surprised by the self-control that results from it. But from what you said fishing/diving sounds like the best place to start out to see if it helps... maybe try practicing mediation while you fish since the relaxation from fishing is already close to that of meditation, then from the train your brain to be able to "mimic" the relaxation you get from fishing when you need it. Good luck

  11. Either one is better than what I currently own, but I agree the Razer headphones are more comfortable than Dr. Dre. In my opinion comfort is more important than sound quality (to a point).
  12. At this point I feel helplessly confused  I thought it talked about Ideas in general, and how good idea spread through out a society and how bad ones die out. I didn't think that it refereed to people or how to treat others based on what they contribute. Can someone in there own words describe to me objectively describe to me what it is...
  13. @WizardOfAtlantis nope, most of the weird sounds are actually attributed to increase sun activity than to polar shift. Solar activity isn't really anything to worry about either. It happens every few years or so but doesn't get too much attention because in those years it wasn't 2012.
  14. I agree that it is a real thing, but I don't really think that it is something that can be "implemented" or "unimplemented." From what I read on your link it seems to be the natural progression of an idea as it moves through out society. I also don't thing its something that is inherently good or bad, but rather a social mechanism. Social Darwinism can be used to describe the practice of discrimination against a culture, at the same time can be used to describe a movement for equal rights. Compassion through out a society could even described by Social Darwinism, by being a stronger value to the society than opposing values.
  15. well as far as distracting your mind, maybe a for of meditation (I hate using that word because I feel like most people picture a monk guy sitting cross legged on the floor). Essentially what it is is learning to focus your thoughts, and evaluate them. I've suffered from depression as well, since day 1. The doctors diagnosed it when I was in middle school and gave me pills but I took them for two year before I quit because they started to make me really nauseous at night and make my mind really fuzzy. During this same time are started martial arts which helped a lot, the exercise gave me something to work the feelings out. The mental disciplined from martial arts is actually what helps me now with my depression. I started to notice that the thoughts caused be depression had this "feeling" with them, like someone poured ice-cold water into my veins. After a while I learned to seperate my "real" thoughts from thoughts caused by depression. I know PTSD is a lot different and more sever than what I dealt with but maybe it works on that too? As for the migraines they could be a verity of different things, stress, diet, illness. I usually get migraines from too much caffeine and sudden pressure changes outside (like when a storm front moves in). I also have a friend who gets migraines from eating food with soy in it (from just a little bit, her's can last up to a week from one exposure). I know you've probably had someone recommend support groups alread, but its never a bad idea. Networking with people who are under the same surcomstance may provide some answers and hopely some solutions. Finally, You probably already do, but make sure you tell the girlfriend how much you appriate her support. She obviously cares greatly for you, and though she doesn't want to see you in pain, she doesn't want to lose you or have you suffer your burden alone. Never forget you always have a hugh communty of people here you can always talk to
