  1. You think the best way to your destination is to jump from rock to rock, finally sliding down a sheer cliff wall. Running everywhere makes sense to you and you don't understand why everyone is walking so slow. You're surprised when you go outside and the cold is actually COLD. You look at every rounded stone on the ground, expecting it to pop up and have claws. The unwashed hick in the dirty clothes at Walmart seems absolutely normal. (Wait, that IS normal...) You recognize that you've been sleeping even less than your character has. You're pretty sure that airplane in the sky should be flying backwards. You put your nose on the wall, and your amazed at how good those modded textures look. You expect every policeman you walk by to tell you about his bullet in the knee. You see an abandoned house by the road and wonder what treasures lie in the labyrinth beneath. You think everyone standing in front of every structure must be a bandit and reach for your bow. It takes less than five minutes to think of a bunch of stuff like this and you've still got more. :woot:
  2. Right click on the blue box in the the upper left hand corner of your steam window that says "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim." Choose "properties." Click the "UPDATES" tab. Select "View The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim update history." Oddly all that just takes you to the "NEWS" tab of the main window, but that's where mine shows an update version 1.2 at 12:16. I guess you could just click on "NEWS" button.
  3. My two gold coins worth? You chose a Redgauard, so I'm going to assume you want a straight forward, combat-oriented character. Go heavy armor and two-handed. That's a combat machine. No blocking necessary, you can soak up the hits. Magic? Psha. Focus your perks. Build the tank if that's what you envision. Yes, there are variants, two weapons, sword and shield, etc. Keep it simple, first time out. Whichever combination appeals to you. Myself, I like the stealthy character. I'm focused on light armor, sneak, archery, and (because I like short, one-sided melee) two handed. I sneak in and throw some arrows for 3x damage. If that doesn't kill 'em, I let 'em come to me, rise out of the crouch and finish with the big sword chop to the head. The light armor is because you can sneak better in light than heavy armor. The big two handed weapon makes short work of most any animal or man. I put my level-ups into health and stamina solely. I've got the health to survive a long battle, and the stamina to hit hard and carry lots of stuff. I keep different armor types for different uses. For instance, at the moment I've got a glass helmet that is my highest light armor value. But I've got an elven helmet of archery that is a lower armor value, which I wear more. When when I'm sneaking around with my bow (which is most of the time) I've got the elven helmet on. When needed, I hit the inventory screen and swap to the glass helmet for the extra armor. I've got the same mix for all armor, ring and necklace slots. It's really easy to choose, if you don't think about it. Don't think about what kind of character or perks will make you the best. Rather just play, and put your perks and such where they will benefit the way you like to play. If you play a while and decide you'd rather try something different, just start a new character with a new focus. Warrior, mage, assassin, spell sword, you name it. You can be who you want and win. Therein is one of the true beauties of The Elder Scrolls.
  4. Hehehehe. His name has "Butt" in it. Hehehe.
  5. Glad to hear you've managed to fix the problem but this statement is clearly not true. 51 hours of play in 11 days would indicate you get ample opportunities to sit and play. Jokes... Hehe. Busted! Perhaps I should have said I don't get the opportunity for uninterrupted, immersive play. LOL
  6. @ Farem and Dan3345: It would crash whenever I walked out of the world cell I was in, regardless of which save I used, or if I fast traveled somewhere else. After another couple hours of mucking around with the 4gb loader and redoing my ini files, I think I've got my problems licked. I'll know for sure after a few hours of game play. Man I was looking forward to drinking a few beers and playing into the wee hours of the morning, last night. As a single parent on a rotating shift at work, I don't often get the opportunity to just sit and play, and last night was that opportunity. I was pretty darn mad that it was taken away from me. Hopefully those problems are behind me now, and I can continue to enjoy the game from here on out. It was just running so well and was such a let down when they screwed it up. Let's hope the next patch fixes some issues, rather than creating more. Cheers.
  7. Sorry for the rant guys, I drank a few too many beers while I was trying to get the game going. I will admit I was pretty pissed, though. I was unable to play without crashing within minutes, and looking at a complete reinstall. It wasn't a single save that was corrupted, I went way back and none of them worked. Having to replay all that I've done so I can get back to the point I was at is not going to be enjoyable for me. It's going to be a grind. No, I'm not ready to try a different character track to make the game "fresh" again. I wasn't done with the character I had, and that's the difference. It's one thing to start a new game because you want to. It's another to lose what you've done and have to start a new game. Yup, tried that. All verifying the game cache did for me was to note that one of my files (it didn't specify which one) was not verified and download another and overwrite it. I lost all the ini tweaks I made, including the mouse fix, and the game still crashes within minutes. It's not as though I was the only person who was unable to play after the "patch" though. I'm one of the many "It didn't work for me" people, though I (thankfully) didn't post anything saying so. I replaced the ini files with my backups, and still I have same mouse problem as the vanilla and the game still crashes within minutes. I'm off to redo the troubleshooting I did last night in the hopes I did something incorrectly in my alcohol induced stupor. It was a really frustrating and irritating five hours that led up that rant, but it wasn't really constructive or necessary (though I did have some valid points). Cheers.
  8. Edit: First let me apologize for this drunken rant. I really do love the game. I wrote this after a very frustrating five hours I should have been playing, and drank a few too many beers trying to get it to work. Alas, not the first time beer has made a fool of someone, and certainly not the last. Cheers, all. I was an Elder Scrolls fanboy. I loved it. The whole sandbox idea, the modding community keeping it alive and fresh. Like many of you, I've been playing Oblivion since it came out. The mods made it all possible. Endless content, enjoyment, excitement and expectation... Always knowing there was more to come. Like many of you, the joy I felt when I saw the first Skyrim trailer was indescribable. Like many of you, I waited long, long months to see the glory that was the continuation of the only game I really play. All the hype drove the excitement I felt at every release of new footage. I found myself reading the forums several times a day, hoping for a scrap of new information. I was starving for every new screenshot and dreaming of every new piece of video. I was actually at the store at midnight, to get my copy of the Elder Scrolls V. I didn't care if it ran on Steam. I didn't care if it ran on kerosene, alcohol or if I had to ride a little bicycle attached to a flywheel. All I cared was that I was going to get a new Elder Scrolls, with a new engine, and that the modders would only make it better. I knew I could count on the modding community to take the next Elder Scrolls game beyond anything that could be done in a commercial enterprise, and keep it alive for years. The modders would keep it ever growing, ever interesting, always great. I knew it was Bethesda, and that they understood that it was the PC platform and the modding community that kept people like us interested in the Elder Scrolls. I just knew Bethesda understood that without the PC and modding community, the Elder Scrolls V was just another game and nothing really special. So many posts by so many people about all the problems with the game. So many obvious instances that we dealt with as players that made it clear how the PC community was forgotten. Yet I remained steadfast. I would support this game and company that made it. I liked it. I enjoyed it. I appreciated it. Now this. I get home from a long day of work. I'm off tomorrow. Been planning for days what quests I would pursue. I avoid anything that even smells of spoiler on the internet. I'm wondering what new and better armor I might find, and what weapon I can drool over. What quest, challenge, monster, puzzle shall I overcome? I sat down at my computer five hours ago. I've been trying to play ever since. And why? From what I've read (none of which comes from Bethesda OR Steam, because they're not talking) it's because there was a forced download of a bogus patch so that the pirates would have a harder time pirating. Which they've already done. Which no patch could possibly stop. Now I've got 51 hours invested in a character I care about, in a world I care about. And it's apparently gone. Have I tried every tip, trick and fix I can find on the entirety of the internet? Yes. Has anything worked? No. Does my ire reach heights that the Throat of the World can't even contemplate? Abso-frickin-lutely. Bethesda has lost my trust. I am no longer a fanboy. Search my handle on the forums. Go way back. I was ever positive, ever trusting, ever hopeful and trusting. Some say lost trust is the hardest thing to earn back. I say it is lost hope. I truly and honestly HOPE that what is happening is some of kind of mistake. I HOPE that some one just screwed up. I hope that this isn't the end of all of the high level modding of Elder Scrolls. I'm writing this at 0406 on the 22nd of November, 2011, United States EST. I HOPE it's fixed by the time I post this.
  9. I've got to disagree with you. I think the game looks great. I've seen it on the XBOX, and it looks good too, but certainly not better than I've got. I'm thinking that maybe just playing the game on ultra settings may not be the same for everyone. Over the last few months I've purchased a good monitor, graphics card and power supply for my already good system, so that I could enjoy the eye candy of this game to the fullest. I'm running a CoreDuo 2.3ghz quad and 6 gig of RAM. I bought an HP 2311x monitor (it has a .265mm dot pitch), which I'm running at the native resolution of 1920x1280. It's being pushed by an EVGA Superclocked GeForce GTX 560 with 2gb of VRAM. It's not a rocking gamer-system, but it's enough to make this game look really good. If you're thinking the game doesn't look so good, perhaps it's not the game. If you've got the rocking gamer-system (including monitor), and still think Skyrim looks better on the consoles, then I don't know what to tell you. Glass is half full, perhaps. Maybe that's why developers prefer the known platforms of the consoles.
  10. Skyrim Nexus is now open! More good reading whilst we wait!
  11. For any that might be interested, here is a link to a hi-res version of the map. It was on the same page as the aforementioned poll. http://myona.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/skyrim-map-hd.jpg Oddly enough it seems different from the map in this post: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/455507-the-map/page__st__10
  12. Hello all. I find that I am unwilling to play Skyrim on my current rig. I am the type that just won't be happy unless I can max all the eye candy goodness. I'm looking at purchasing an EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Superclocked 2048 MB GDDR5 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card 02G-P3-1469-KR and an appropriate power supply. I would appreciate some opinions concerning the 2gb of video memory. Planning for the future and all the lovely hi-res textures that are sure to soon be available, 2gb seemed like a good idea. However, I can get basically the same card with 1gb VRAM for about $50 less (which is significant, given my current financial status). Do you think the extra gig of ram will be useful, or is it a needless expenditure?
  13. Has anyone else wondered if there is a connection between the Septim-dragon blood of kings and the fact that the main character in Skyrim is dragonborn? How cool would it be if we are embarking upon an epic journey to remake a fallen empire!
  14. Try Toggleable Quantity Prompt http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12859 That is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Kudos to you. Thank you very much.
  15. Hello all. I'm looking for a mod that will allow for one-click selling (alt-click or shift-click, etc), without having to select "yes, I want to sell that sword for 37 gold." Or, "Yes, I want to sell all three of those items, and yes I want to sell them for 20 gold each." I tried searching for barter, merchant, sell, and buy, but no luck.
  16. ANB Bigger Booty http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17067 The larger backsides clip with some outfits, but that's because they're bigger. :) http://www.tesnexus.com/imageshare/image.php?id=88026 The skirt is from an outfit meant for DMRA. It fit the ANB butt rather well, I think.
  17. After selflessly scouring the interwebs for long, long minutes to bring YOU, the lucky reader of this post, a demonstrative image of TRUE armor on a barbarian from the north, ladies and gentleman, may I present a vision of what female fur armor will hopefully (for me, anyway) one day look like in the world of Skyrim! *insert drumroll here* (Note: links to an image with partially bare buttocks.) http://www.leenks.com/gallery1447-10.htm She is obviously a REAL noridic-type barbarian she-warrior, and she doesn't look cold at all... :whistling:
  18. I see a lot of posts where people say they are "now" going to preorder Skyrim. The last game I preordered, it was available in the store before I got mine. But I'm pretty excited about this game, and preordering, while I've got the cash seems like a good idea. However, it seems different vendors sometimes offer different bonus content when you preorder through them. So I was thinking of waiting to see who offered what before I laid down my cash. What do ya'll think? Are you going to run down to your local vendor and preorder, preorder online, wait and see, or just go buy the game after it comes out?
  19. Hmm. This list is from the mods I am currently using, that are not uber-popular. I'm basing the "unknown" factor on the number of endorsements (mostly). All are IMHO under-endorsed. Some are old, some are not. All are under appreciated, I think. Some I downloaded long ago, some others I downloaded when I was not logged in, and could not later endorse. Most I have endorsed as they deserve. In some cases, I think, Kudos were earned for these modders, either for their vision or their implementation, and they did not receive them. To all those reading this post - download, enjoy, endorse, give Kudos, if you feel it right. 20. Some of those shots look very nice indeed! Well done. I am seriously looking forward to the rest to see what new tidbits we can glean. Thank you.
  21. Altmer of course. Those big snooty bananas all look the same to me. ROFL!!
  22. Please someone call me wrong. What we are seeing is simply clothing attached to the skeleton, as the character moves, the clothing moves with the character. Nothing new there. What everyone is hoping for is for a cape, for instance, to blow in the wind. Or when a pc jumps, the cuirass, and its many attachments does not simply move with the body, but lifts and drops of it's own accord, according to gravity and weight. I fear that such animation is currently beyond the capabilities of current game technology, though. A more "loose" attachment to the skeleton, with some havoc involved may be the most we can hope for. I agree with the pouch observation. It's good to see that "real world" detail added. Such a simple thing, yet like most immersion details, it is sorely missed even when unnoticed.
  23. For those of you looking, the 1280x720 version of the trailer with 71 hires screenshots was posted by LHammonds. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37291
  24. It's been stated, if you are holding a sword and shield you cannot cast spells. Yeah, I'm kind of hoping for an exception with self healing spells. *crosses fingers* My characters are lightweight stealthy types, but I still sometimes wade in like I'm Conan the Barbarian. Makes for some fun, but gotta be able to heal on the fly.
  25. @ DisintergrateHorseArmor: I believe you're right, those do look like ships in the distance. Viking Long Boats FTW!
