  1. So does that mean that I can install Skyrim on my notebook and Steam will find my character for me and make it available to play? How about saved games? Or if I copy my saved game folder to a flash drive and then put them in the saved games folder on my notebook? Will that work?
  2. Thanks! Good to know that the VM entries are normal. Is there a guide to papyrus log categories/labels?
  3. Just for grins, started the game and immediately exited from the main screen before playing. Got this Papyrus log: [07/19/2012 - 06:06:40PM] Papyrus log opened (PC) [07/19/2012 - 06:06:40PM] Update budget: 1.200000ms (Extra tasklet budget: 1.200000ms, Load screen budget: 500.000000ms) [07/19/2012 - 06:06:40PM] Memory page: 128 (min) 512 (max) 76800 (max total) [07/19/2012 - 06:06:56PM] VM is freezing... [07/19/2012 - 06:06:56PM] VM is frozen [07/19/2012 - 06:06:56PM] Log closed So is a log created whether there is an error or not? I've got 16gb RAM and the latest version of Skyrim; why would I show so little memory available? Why does the VM freeze? Is there a reference that can explalin this?
  4. Seems very large. Did you delete all your logs and then try again? And they were still that big? Probably too big for Notepad. Try opening them up in Word (if you have it) or Windows Write or similar. They're just text files.
  5. I thought so...... the "f***ing Arrow" i dont know where that came from so i want to get rid of it, why the plants and food are not in placed? how can i fix this problems? EDIT - or at least a command or something to reset the scripts.. Unfortunately, I've learned the hard way that discipline in installing mods with save games PRIOR to the installation of the mod is probably the only way to correct many of these errors. When I purchased the PC version of Skyrim, I had already been playing on the PS3 for 7 months. I purchased it primarily to try out the hundreds if not thousands of mods that have come out, and I really didn't pay much attention to what I installed and the relationship to my saved games. As a result, even with removing ALL mods with the Nexus Mod Manager, and starting a new game, I still get errors. I've previously posted that the only way I think to fix all of this is to uninstall all mods. Backup my ini files, and then remove and re-install. Next time I'll have a clean save game (shortly after the start in Riverwood) with no mods installed, and then each time I try out a mod, make a save before and immediately after installing. Keep the Papyrus Logs feature enabled, and look at the log after installing the mod to see if it is causing problems. If it is, uninstall, fall back to the saved game before it was installed, and try another one. It takes a lot of the fun out of this, but for the last several months now when I'm playing Skyrim on my PC, all I seem to be doing is troubleshooting. If the clean re-install doesn't solve the problems then I'm back exclusively to my PS3!
  6. From the log, it looks like you have a weapons mod ('f***ing Arrow' ???) and perhaps an abode mod that has items (plants, food) not properly placed?
  7. My next step will be to uninstall everything with Revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html), which removes all game and data files as well as cleaning up the registry. I'm going to move the .ini files as edited for modding so that I don't have to search down the proper changes later. I have all the NMM mods downloaded, but uninstalled. My plan is to completely start over and enable log tracking and see if I get similar results. I hadn't enabled papyrus logs when I first started as I had no idea I'd need them. I was just surprised to see all the entries when the game itself didn't crash.
  8. Thanks! They sure hide that, don't they. One would think it would be a drop down menu from the Steam menu. Working it now. Ok, so I used the NMM and uninstalled ALL mods....sigh! I mourn the loss of my character and her 5 followers. Then I cleared my cache as recommended. I started a new game and got through the introduction and all the way to Riverwood. I saved game and exited normally. No crashes, etc. But...when I checked my logs, I had a very large log (probably about 100 lines) with all sorts of errors posted. Some I had never seen before about a dragon actor script: AnimEvent: DragonLandEffect delivered by Dragon ([dragonactorscript < (00032DB7)>]) and a ton of actor base errors like this: [defaultSetStageTRIGSpecificActor < (000AA79D)>] didn't trigger for base actor [ActorBase < (000F778F)>] <> [ActorBase < (000654E5)> Some weapons rack errors: DARYL - [WeaponRackActivateSCRIPT < (00093626)>] running OnCellLoad() and AlreadyInit = False Some combat errors like this: error: (FF000BC8): Actor has no AI process, cannot start combat. stack: [ (FF000BC8)].Actor.StartCombat() - "<native>" Line ? [MQ101 (0003372B)].QF_MQ101_0003372B.Fragment_269() - "QF_MQ101_0003372B.psc" Line 2450 and the last lines of the log: hawing... [07/17/2012 - 10:32:30PM] VM is frozen [07/17/2012 - 10:32:30PM] Mind you, this did not result in a freeze or CTD. I had a normal exit to desktop from the game. Any idea where all these errors come from? Is it normal for a clean game to generate these?
  9. Thanks! They sure hide that, don't they. One would think it would be a drop down menu from the Steam menu. Working it now.
  10. Got to the site. I have the latest version so ok. Not sure how to validate my cache on Steam. I don't see it as one of the drop-downs from the client. Can you point me in the right direction?
  11. Site appears down. I can get to Dark Creations, but even from there the unofficial skyrim patch gives a server error. Perhaps updating to a later version? I didn't uninstall/re-install yet, but I did turn all mods off except Clarilux, Apache Skyhair and the HD Pack and started a new game. I got as far as Helgin and hopping off the cart and the killing of the thief who ran by an Imperial archer and then CTD. So there must be stuff in there that the Nexus manager isn't uninstalling correctly. Project for this coming weekend: uninstall, clean up all the ini files and folders and re-install and see what happens. A newbie question: can I install Skyrim on another computer using my same Steam account and just download to it, or is it licensed only to one computer and I have to re-purchase? I was thinking of putting it on my notebook and setting all the display items to low and use it for testing mods that I'd like to install on my desktop eventually without corrupting anything on it.
  12. Watching this thread for 18 pages now, it's obvious to me that Bethesda has a buggy game when one allows mods. A few simple ones, even well constructed, seem to eventually crash, freeze or even cause the game not to start. Several posts here indicate that this happens even after a fresh install. Lots of great advice to restrain oneself from multiple mods, but isn't that what sites like Steam and Nexus support and encourage? I'm hoping that Bethesda employees read these entries, but tend to wonder if it makes a difference or not. One post indicated that the person had contacted Bethesda support over CTD's, and was told that Bethesda doesn't support the installation of mods...at least as far as their technical support goes. Sigh, I guess it's back to my PS3 and it's vanilla configuration as far as this game goes. One wonders if all the authors of mods posted here at Nexus encounter similar problems as their users are having and how they are solving the problem; if they are...
  13. Welcome to the mod[frustration] club! I, too, play on a PS3 as my primary character. I'm trying to do ALL the sidequests before I finish the main one on the PS3. I use my PC to play with mods, and have also been doing so for about 4 months now. The Nexus Mod Manager is an essential tool to keeping track of what is installed and uninstalled. At least, for me, it does a fairly good job of removing mods, but I've learned from this thread that saved games with prior mods just are not stable. I'm going to have to start over, and dread the process, but I see no alternative in that I get CTD's and freezes or non-starts (when loading prior saves) all the time now.
  14. Problems continue in White Run! Something strange going on here. I can reload a saved game inside Breeze Home and go outside to White Run, but I can't reload a saved game from anywhere in White Run itself. I just started Skyrim up and noticed that even before selecting a saved game to restore, I had a Papyrus log pop up. I quit and then opened it and got the following: [07/02/2012 - 11:42:23PM] Papyrus log opened (PC) [07/02/2012 - 11:42:23PM] Update budget: 1.200000ms (Extra tasklet budget: 1.200000ms, Load screen budget: 500.000000ms) [07/02/2012 - 11:42:23PM] Memory page: 128 (min) 512 (max) 76800 (max total) [07/02/2012 - 11:42:32PM] Cannot open store for class "SlaveBardPlayScriptTest01", missing file? [07/02/2012 - 11:42:50PM] VM is frozen [07/02/2012 - 11:42:51PM] Log closed And this is before the game even gets going with a saved file. Suggestions, or give up the ghost and start over?
  15. I went back about 5 saved games ago; several days of game playing, and in a dungeon that I could restore. From there I re-ran the quest and exited. Then fast traveled to White Run and did a save game. I went into a tavern and parked my 5 followers; then left. Then fast traveled to Dawnstar and saved game again. I removed Clarilux and Wearable Lanterns and the blacksmith mods. Saved game again and fast traveled to White Run. Saved game and exited. No CTD's; no freezes. Let's see if that's got it for now... Frankly, I shudder to try any more of the neat mods I see posted every day and reviewed in the YouTube videos. And modding is the reason I purchased the PC version!
  16. Post back here and let us know if reinstalling and no mods is stable (one would think so!)
  17. I share your frustration. I purchased the PC version of Skyrim JUST to play mods. Hearing that Bethesda 'supported' modding and issued their Creation Kit, I kind of thought that there would be some mechanism to ensure stability; especially if you removed a mod that was causing a problem, but apparently once a mod is in and scripts installed or modified, even removing the mod doesn't correct the problem. I note you have some errors in your log that are the same as mine, yet we have different mods except that we both have LegendarySmithingUpgrades.esp Lost Art of the Blacksmith.esp I note you don't show UFO (follower overhaul), nor Claralux or Wearable Lanterns which I have and seem to be causing me similar errors. Did you have it and uninstall it? You and I both get this error: [07/02/2012 - 08:22:43AM] warning: Property HircinesRingPower on script companionshousekeepingscript attached to C00 (0004B2D9) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property Did you install a mod that had a ring associated with it? I have Smithmaster Ring currently installed. You say that many of your CTD's happened in version 1.5 of Skyrim; I had a few then, but really noticed them after version 1.6 was automatically installed (and no way apparently to go back.) I've stated in earlier postings that I guess I'll have to start over, which I hate to do, but am reallizing that I'm spending more time troubleshooting and trying to find cleaner saves that let me play, than playing the game and trying out all these great mods.
  18. Interesting to analyze what's happening when the CTD happens. I'm in a Dwarven ruin and on entering the new area, I'm attacked by Folmers (sp?); If I raise my hands and attempt any damage spell, the game CTD's. Repeating and just let them attack me, no CTD, but any defensive actions and again a CTD. This time, I equipped a summoning staff and summoned a Dremora (sp?) and he fought for me, beating the Folmers. I then saved the game. Oh, by the way, my followers did not follow me into this section of the dungeon (working on the Crimson Nimroot quest. Think they were not supposed to follow.) Walked around after the battle and found an elevator to return to the previous section of the dungeon (to get my followers back?) As soon as I activate the elevator, CTD. Similar Papyrus log entries as those posted earlier, so it has to be one of the mods I've uninstalled that is still looking for scripts that are no longer there. Guess I"ll have to try the clean process and/or the complete delete and reinstall. Hate to start over, but then I guess more mod discipline is going to be required. Oh yes, and no CTD's before Ver 1.6 updated itself unwelcomly.
  19. Try moving the Papyrus section just below the General section. That did it for me.
  20. Finally got logs to register after moving the Papyrus section just below the General section in the skyrim.ini file. Reading the following it looks like I'm getting some errors due to Wearable Lanterns and potentially UFO? I also have Better Horses along with UFO and see an error that unable to conjure horses? Something about not able to bind SJOGTrainerGold; not sure where that comes from. And the last lines refer to URWLQuestScript and _WL_LanternQuestScript. I guess it's time to do the full cleaning process and if necessary wipe and start over, but I'll take it step by step. Here's the log: [06/28/2012 - 08:43:15PM] Papyrus log opened (PC) [06/28/2012 - 08:43:15PM] Update budget: 1.200000ms (Extra tasklet budget: 1.200000ms, Load screen budget: 2000.000000ms) [06/28/2012 - 08:43:15PM] Memory page: 128 (min) 512 (max) 76800 (max total) [06/28/2012 - 08:43:23PM] Cannot open store for class "SlaveBardPlayScriptTest01", missing file? 21. Thought I had beat the CTD's but while adventuring into a dungeon, on opening a door into another area of the dungeon, I got my CTD. I hadn't enabled the papyrus in the skyrim.ini before, so decided to finally do that. Restarted and got the same CTD as before, but when I went into the data folder that the skyrim.ini is in, the only folder there is my saves folder. No log folder. Any idea where it might be, or why Skyrim didn't create it? Should I create the folder manually and try again (which I will try later today anyway?)
  22. Can you expand a little on what you mean by the above? Disable/Enable as it relates to the Data screen in the startup menu? How about in NMM? And by Custom Actors is that any character that is installed by a mod? Or how about a standard NPC that is changed by a mod such that an esp of that character's name is loaded?
  23. Although I was back up and playing again, lately after I add a new mod and then go back to the last saved game, the game freezes at the loading screen of the save. I get the usual help information on a lore item, and the rolling steam from the bottom up, but that's it, I don't get into the game. If I go to the Windows Task Manager, it shows me that Skyrim is unresponsive. However, I do seem to be able to get back into the game by loading an earlier save and then fast traveling to the location where the last save was made. I've taken to making two saves, a quick save just before I'm ready to leave the game and then a fast travel somewhere else and a full save there, which is the one I can't seem to load. I'm pretty sure it's not hardware or driver related; I have two monitors and keep a widget showing my cpu usage and temperature on the non-game monitor. I also have Asus's system monitor that I can choose to display cpu frequency (Intel Turbo step is on). Both of those monitors show normal action of the computer, with no overloading of the processors (Core i7 2600k) and low temperatures (Corsair liquid cooling) I'm fighting a clean save using the previously posted procedures, or a wipe and start over, but I guess I'm going to have to consider that given the degradation of the game as I proceed with this character and followers (UFO.)
  24. After playing Skyrim for about 6 months on my PS3, I purchased the PC version through Steam primarily to play with the fantastic number of mods that are out there. Unfortunately, I allowed automatic updates to Skyrim from Steam (installed version 1.6 without my knowledge,) and I've installed and uninstalled many, many mods without giving thought to the impact they might have on my saved games or the structure of Skyrim overall. And, unfortunately, I did not make a backup of my configurations either through Steam (learned of this too late to prevent the 1.6 problems) or using a hard drive backup program (shame on me.) So lesson learned the hard way, more discipline in the installation, configuration and backup of the game and the mods if and when I wipe everything out and start over. Too much frustration trying to troubleshoot the individual mods and their uninstalls, and too much invested in character building under those modes to try and re-create them without a clean restart.
