I'm unable to even log into NMM despite having correctly entered my username and password. Is that related to the sudden server changes? I'm not in any rush, it's just a curiosity. Any feedback'd be much appreciated. Thanks. -Dunk

Have you updated to the most recent version of SKSE? A new version was released not long ago. That's most likely your problem. That or you need to update SkyUI as version 3.4 was recently released.

I would say that it's worth the hassle. I'm running roughly 110 mods and only about 10 of them required updating after updating the game to 1.9 (four of them being Unofficial Patches) and have suffered from absolutely no problems at all. As long as you've had no problems with your game to begin with I'd say go ahead and update your game to the most recent version, as well as some of your mods.
