Hi everyone I need to reset my laptop due to a defect, which the laptop manufacturer only wants to address after I've reset the computer. This includes wiping the hard drive, thereby removing all personal documents and installed software. I'd rather not buy an extra external harddrive to backup my computer (or is it 'back my computer up?'), so I try to put everything I must keep on USB-sticks. Since I do not have any photos or videos on my computer, this should be doable. I have the install disk for Skyrim. I've already located the saved games folder and created a back-up. I also want to somehow keep my list of installed mods, so that I can continue playing Skyrim after the reset (and after reinstalling Skyrim and its mods and putting the saved games back in place, of course). Naturally, I don't want to copy all Skyrim program files (that are also on the install disk) to USB-sticks, as that would be a waste of space. I was wondering what the minimum is I need to copy to my stick to keep my mods. Back when I still installed my mods manually, that was usually just the data folder. However, since I'm now using NMM, I don't really know where exactly it installs the mods (and their load order, ...). What should I do to be safe? I don't care if I have to redownload some mods, I'd just like to be able to keep my set-up and load order, so that I can continue playing without having to worry about dissapearing content. To bben46: If he has the GOTY Edition he has SI. Did you try starting the Oblivion.exe file in your Oblivion folder instead of using the launcher on the DVD?

True, Bethesda Softworks doesn't support Vista, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't work. Mine works fine on Vista. Could you desribe what exactly isn't working? Does it just crash to your desktop? Do you get an error message? You can't expect us to help with that little information.

First, it happened occasionally. No problem, since I always saved the game before entering the arena as a combatant. Then it started to happen more frequent, and now it happens more than 50% of the times I enter the arena. When I sign up for a match, I enter the arena and I hear the guy say his speech. Then only one of two gates (either mine or the enemy's) opens. I found that using console command 'tcl' causes this error to appear every time after that, so I can't do that. The only solution is to reload a previous save and try again. I do have quite a few mods but none altering anything inside the arena. Does anyone have this problem?

Very lucky me indeed. Thinking I always laughed at these people keeping hundreds of saves ... :) It's a good thing I just started this game than. It could've occured me I actually lost a game of level 30 ! Thank you all for your help though. It mightn't have solved my problem, but I've already seen many things the UOP DID fix. So kudos for you both :)

Fine, I'll try this, but you'll need to give me step-by-step information. After I reinstalled the game, do I have to disable all mods, or not? EDIT: I just opened another saved game with the same mods installed and I didn't have any of the bugs mentioned above. Perhaps my saved file is corrupted?

Yes, BOSS told me it could be replaced with the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. But I'm afraid it will cause so many conflicts. And it's a big file for my limited brandwhich. I'll download it this night.

I discovered even more AI packages that seem to be missing. The 'Escort Package' doesn't seem to work either. For example: In the first Fighter's Guild quest 'A Rat Problem', Pinarus Inventius doesn't go hunting In another Fighter's Guild quest where you have to protect a Deadric Scholar, she doesn't start moving. What messed up my Oblivion so bad?

I hadn't played Oblivion for a very long time when I started again yesterday with a new game. I never experienced this problem before, and I didn't install any mods when I started the new game yesterday. I wouldn't know what'd cause this problem. And I don't want to uninstall all of my mods, that'd be a shame! I'll look for a solution somewhere on the forums or the mod database. And by the way, I DID install all of my mods with OMOD. I started a new game and I first discovered this situation when I attacked a guard and he didn't do anything, but when I started conversation myself he arrested me. At first I thought it was just the guards who were bugged, but then it happened in multiple siuations: The evil mage in the Skingrad reccomadtion quest doesn't confront me The evil mage in the leyawiin reccomedation doesn't approach me The paranoia guy in Skingrad doesn't confront me etc. etc. I disabled all mods, and the problem remained. My conclusion is that the "Confront me"-dialogue (however it is called in the construction set) no longer works. Does anyone know how to solve this? Or is this because I made a very ugly character? I have copying software, but not really high-quality, and I'm sure Oblivion is well secured. But then again, I would just lose this copy too. I need a copy on my harddrive. Would it be good to make an 'image' of the file? How would I have to let my Oblivion software know the software is on my harddrive? I'm not that good with .ini files.

Hi, I don't know if there are many stereoscopic gamers out here. If you are not a real stereoscopic gamer but you do have a couple of anaglyph (red-cyan) glasses lying around, you should try downloading IZ3d software and try gaming in 3D (www.iz3d.com). Now Fallout 3 is beautiful in 3D, and you barely have any FPS drop. However, it isn't designed to work in 3D. When you open your pipboy your eyes hurt so hard (because it's waaaay too close to you in 3D space) and it's impossible to aim with two eyes open as the crosshair isn't correctly projected on the object, so you always have to close your left eye. I was wonderring whether or not there are any modifications that do the following: Project the crosshair on the object in front of the player. Hello everyone, I always have a hard time finding my Oblivion DVD in my messy house. I sometimes lend it to someone else (we share the game) and than he loses it too. So that's quite some work. Now I know I should just clean up my house, but I was wondering whether or not it was possible to copy the files from the DVD to the computer, so I wouldn't need the DVD to play (like with Fallout 3). I'd like to know: Is it illegal to do so, even if you own the game? Which files do you need? To what folder do you need to copy them? What in the config file do you have to change? Thanks!

I don't have Windows 7, but since you say it's the the same as Windows Vistan I'll explain you how I do it: - Go to Network Centre - Click 'Diagnose and repair' (don't have English OS, so maybe it's not the same in English) - Wait for it to 'diagnose' your problem - Click the only solution which, in my case, is 'Enable LAN-connection adapter' (again, terminology might be different in English) This always works for me, and I use it quite often. Actually I tried it while typing this message, so I was forced to type it completely over again because I lost connection. I'm dumb :D. Don't know anything about Firefox. I suggest using google chrome as browser. Really fast, never crashes.

Well if you have a very good PC it might be the games are uneffected because your CPU is powerfull enough, even in performance mode. Could you give me specifications of your PC and the kind of games you play?

You mean like the problem isn't anything electronic, but just a short circuit with the power supply? Might be possible if the metal object is put deep enough into the port, although I never experienced this myself. Sorry for not reading the post thoroughly enough. I'm a little lazy :).

Just by plugging in the USB-stick? I thought the worst that could be done was format the hard drive, in which case you would get the flickering _ on top of the screen. I thought the PSU wasn't directly controlable by applications other than the motherboard itself.

Could you give a bit more details on what exactly happens when you try to turn on the computer: -Nothing at all? -Some lights and sounds, but no screen? -Blue screen? -Strange flickering underscore (_) on top of the screen?
