I recently bought Fallout 3 with ignorant hopes to play it with ease on Windows 7. To my surprise, the game restarted the computer every few minutes. Confused, I scanned the internet in hopes of solving this problem. As it seems, many people have had the same problems I have encountered and have certain numbers of solutions to solve the problems. I have tried nearly every one of the solutions I could find, but they just made it worse! The solutions I have attempted are: Went into the fallout.ini file under "My Documents" - "My Games" - "Fallout" and making the changes: bUseThreadAI=1 iNumHWThreads=2 Downloaded the patch d3d9.dll Disabled hyperthreading Launched the game, hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, right clicked on fallout.exe, and chose properties. I went into the compatibility tab and chose Windows XP Starter Pack 3 (as this didn't work I also tried everything from Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 2000). I also checked the box that says "run as administrator". Right clicked on the Fallout 3 Launcher and chose "troubleshoot compatibility". I did the recommended settings, this also didn't work. After all of this didn't work I simply ran as administrator and chose Windows XP Starter Pack 2. The simple approach also didn't work. For those who wish to see the system I am using, look below: Windows 7 Home Edition Processor: Intel Core i7 CPU 2.83 GHz RAM: 6.00 GB System Type: 64-bit Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeFORCE 6800 So far all I know is that Fallout 3 is finicky when it comes to Windows 7 and multiple cores... Don't you wish Bethesda would do something about ALL of these problems?
