  1. I'm looking for a specific mod that allows crafting of vanilla class ammo at the chemistry station. Had it once and forgot to save it for a later game. There are mods for ammo-specific workstations and ammo variants / reloading; but this is the only one I've seen that was a simple ammo creation capability. Any idea which mod that is? TIA
  2. Great! Thanks for the reply. I'll give that a try this weekend. Looking forward to Cait not shooting at me...
  3. I would make one suggestion you might consider. Over the past few years I've used FMM, MO2 and now Vortex. They are all good and have their own strengths, but downloading is not one of them. Using each one I initially lost or misplaced various files, sometimes in pretty large numbers! Now I never download a file through any of the managers. There is a large download directory divided into SSE and FO4 sub-directories on my D drive. I always go to the Nexus site and do manual downloads. Regardless of which manager I want to use, it is simple to just install from file whenever I want; and I haven't had any issues this way. Additionally, I have an external portable drive that contains the daily or weekly backups from the various directories. Right now there is about 450 GB of stuff in the download directory that is always available for games, but if Windows/Games/Managers causes problems the recovery operation is easy. This environment can be volatile at the times least desirable. This way I know it isn't caused by the manager. LOL
  4. Thanks to all for your responses. That was the problem and the fix for it. There didn't seem to be a group transfer from one profile to the other. Had to step through moving each save separately. But at least I know what to look for next time. Thanks again!
  5. Thanks for the replies. TheGadget1945 I'm not familiar with that function. How does one execute it? TIA
  6. I have tried using profiles in 15-9 and something is strange. I have the three following profiles: 1. Default (with 120 mods) 2. Clone of Default 119 mods -1 large mod disabled) 3. Vanilla Clone of Default (1 mod - unofficial patch - all others disabled) I was mid-game with #1 at about level 40 when I wanted to try using profiles. I made two clones of the default as shown above. I started a brand new game with profile 2 and reached about level 6 before quitting for the day. The next day I started again with the profile still set for 2. The FO4 menu did not have an entry for 'continue' - all that was allowed was to start a 'new' game. I changed to 1 and that allowed me to continue that game, but of course it meant using the mod I didn't want at that time. When changed to 3, it would allow me to continue but of course then listed all the mods that weren't installed. That was something 2 never got to. The save game settings are: 1 no/no 2 yes/yes 3 yes/yes I don't understand why I can't continue from profile 2. Any ideas what is happening?
  7. I am playing a game with an effort to get Cait as a companion. I've done this before in several games so am familiar with the general sequence of events here. This time however there is a problem: I am in the Combat Zone and have just eliminated the last raider. The manager is heard to say "Are you done now, shooting up my place? Come down here..." That is usually the sign to walk into the arena where Cait and the manager are both kneeling on the far side. Walk up to them and begin the conversation about having Cait as a companion. The problem is for some reason as soon as I walk towards the arena, Cait stands up and runs all the way to the entrance. She is marked in red as an enemy, and shoots me immediately. This has happened three times. When I try to talk to the manager he doesn't have anything to say. It looks like the routine for the conversation hasn't completed properly. Is this a common problem and how do I fix it? There weren't any attacks in the direction of Cait and the manager, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
  8. I'm left out of the FO76 bandwagon anyway as I don't have a continuous network connection, just limited use through a phone hot-spot. I don't care for multiplayer games and am dedicated to single-player games. Bethesda seems to forget that many gamers have more interests than just their flavor of enticement this year. As some examples, I have in various platforms: Fallout series (came late to this with 3 and beyond) Far Cry Series (all of them) Elite Sniper Series (all of them) Assassin's Creed (most of them) Dishonored (all of them) Tomb Raider (some of them) Wolfenstein (some of them) CoD (most of them) Battlefront (most of them) Assorted tactical and strategic wargames (many of these) I'm sure I can find something to do while Bethesda wastes the time that gamers have given them. Here is a shout out to RRTV posting above. His/her latest mods for homes in FO 4 are great additions to the game. I'm glad that the intersest in FO4 is so strong there!
  9. I am using 15.9 with SSE and FO 4, about 100 mods each. In both cases it seems to be working very well but there are two items that recur: 1. I can create profiles in both games with clones or new. However, I can't actually select any of the profiles and they stay locked to the originals. Is there a special way to select them? 2. In SSE, starting the game proceeds normally, but in FO 4 I actually have to click through the start menu twice before the game actually runs. Any idea why I have to do that? Otherwise, no complaints or issues so far.
  10. Thanks for the info on the buttons. I will take a look at those. Below are comments I posted elsewhere concerning Vortex and info videos on youtube: (Sorry about the highlights - couldn't get rid of them) ------------------------------------------------------------ Thanks for all of these videos on Vortex - they helped me a lot in correcting some install errors I made. I have a few comments to add concerning NMM, MO2 and Vortex. I started with NMM a couple years ago for use with Skyrim SE and Fallout 4. Late last year I changed over to MO2 for both and have swapped back in forth, but mostly MO2. I began using Vortex recently when it became available more generally. My comments are flavored by a network connection through my cell phone hot spot that is very limited. NMM notes I am most familiar with this and it has worked very well for me most times. There can be problems when trying to delete/remove mods or plugins. The profile system seems to be based only on the mods configuration aspect, not the player so have to keep track of what character goes with which game. One thing I like a lot is that when you download a mod, it includes the descriptive info from the website that can be viewed later. MO2 notes This has worked very well for me and has lots of flexibility for the end user but initial setup can be daunting. I really like the profile system here as I can just start a game and it already combines the player and game items. However, it does not automatically include the web info for mods, so requires another access to have it included. Sometimes I have to refer back to NMM quickly to review that info. Deleting mods usually works well but there can be issues. The virtual folders seem to work very well in protecting mods and game files. Vortex notes Thanks to your videos, I corrected the locations of both SSE and FO4 files. I really like how easy it is to both install and remove mods (this particularly) plus archives. The drag and drop of the rule assignments seems to work very well when dragging down the screen. At a lower screen and trying to drag up can be frustrating as it may not roll the screen up. Otherwise the rule assignments and priority settings seem convenient and work well. Again, virtual folders are a real godsend here as I prefer to keep these games clean by removing stuff, rather than having multiple variants in place. (note: not during games but after completed for cleanup) I wonder what the profile system will be here. General info I could have used all those descriptions earlier. In both NMM and MO2 I lost a few hundred mods during initial setup because of terms like delete, archive and disable. I never download a mod directly into a manager anymore. Instead, there are specific folders in my download directory where every file is saved via a manual download. The mods can be installed from file when needed and the entire directory can be saved to external drives. There is a problem that sometimes arises when copying data in Windows, any version. The 'file name' is not actually what one usually thinks, like 'Greatmod-zip'. For Windows that file name actually starts with the drive letter so it would be 'F:\newmods\Greatmod-zip'. There is a maximum length to this name of about 255 characters. You can easily exceed that limit by the time you reach the bottom of some game directories. The result is that some files cannot be copied because of the accumulated length in the name. I have lost several 100's of MBs that way in the past
  11. I would just like to add a short comment adding to the OP's original comment concerning interface design as an end user. I have already posted this in Vortex comments but wanted too clarify it a little more. Yesterday was a frustrating day of trying to keep Vortex from CTDs. I have a broad mix of about 30 mods installed while learning how it all works for both SSE and FO4. In SSE, SkyUI worked poorly and new file saves would CTD. In game, I kept getting the error message that SSKE64 was out of date and needed replacement. I tried updating that package several times to no avail. In one of the forums on SkyUI, they suggested for other people having similar problems to not start from within a manager, rather start the launcher from within the SSE game folder. I tried that and it was like new world, everything in the game, including SkyUI worked perfectly. Why the problem? Everything in web references suggested the way to start the game is use the small arrow icon in the upper left corner. It turns out the Vortex launch button does not go through SSKE64 like it appeared. Ok, then how do I start via SSKE64 within Vortex? Uhhhh.. Where is the icon SSKE64? Uhhh.. Turns out, you can't see it at all until you change to the dashboard and it sits in the middle of a bunch of tools. I clicked on that icon and SSE started up and everything in the game worked perfectly. If I'm having this problem, then others more recent to the modding world might also and not have much patience. My suggestion is place a copy of the link to SSKE64 on the normal game box just under the regular start arrow. That way people can decide which to use when, or otherwise when SSKE64 is known to be installed, route the normal start button through that. At least something that says where to find SSKE64 to play the game. Other than that, Vortex is looking very good as a future replacement for NMM.
  12. Is there a way to exit out of leveling up once it starts? You can defer perk additions but so far I haven't found any way out once it starts increasing magica, health or stamina. I wasn't paying attention to how many times a level was coming. Once I started I was locked in for about 8 or 9 levels I did not want so early - wanted maybe 2. Is there a mod or other way too exit that sequence once it starts?
  13. There is also another way to protect your games once installed. Because I have limited access on a laptop, my steam account is always set for 'offline' play even when I do have a network connection. I only use steam online when there is a specific need for it, like purchases. Thus, steam never gives me any automatic updates or touches my games. Sometimes I even make sure the network connection is turned off before starting any games, and I have made a backup.
  14. I would throw in a suggestion for the future without being snarky about it. I bought a new game laptop during last year's holiday season. Prior to that all of my gaming was on a PS4. I don't have a fixed internet connection, just a limited hotspot via my cellphone. At that time a friend let me go to his house and sign on for network access and steam games. I purchased a bunch of games and left the computer in place for downloads which completed later that day. The next day I went to get the computer and steam had done the same thing, removed all of the games. Steam said the credit card used was invalid when it wasn't, as the bank said the next day. It took quite a few emails to get it straight and download the games for the, by then, third time. Ever since then I have purchased a couple WD 4 TB Easystore portable hard drives. Windows 10 allows you to do a complete system backup or merely data files backup; and there are many youtube videos about both. I don't trust computers much anymore, so everyday when I finish I do a complete system backup on one, alternating them. Backing up data files you can do a quick recovery of the items you lost. The system recovery is if Windows 10 has issues and everything needs to be recovered. The spare drives are about as much one can do easily until the gremlins strike again. Sorry to hear of your loss, I know what it means!
  15. I tried looking through various things... This occurs in vanilla FO4 also. Is there a way to run a FO4 configuration file? I have looked through the various ini files and the only reference to audio in one is 'bEnableAudio=1' and in another there is a section on audio but they are a bunch of UID entries with various values. Does anyone know how I correct this problem and get rid of the overlay as it interferes with all of my games?
  16. I was playing a regular game of modded FO4 and at one point there was a CTD. I have about a hundred active mods, most of which are weapon or game play related with some not in use. After rebooting the PC, I started MO2 again and noticed that all of the mods on the right screen had become unchecked. I tried to mark the ones I could remember and started the game from the previous save. Ever since then in FO4 game play regardless of profile, there is this large circle over the right screen that says something like: 5.1 or 7.1 audio required It only occurs in FO4, not Skyrim SE, and audio in both games sounds fine with wireless headsets. Is this related to one of the mods I added or is it something else?
  17. Given the concerns about travel in FO4, why has no one provided something like SSE''s Convenient Horses? I am sure at least one would have survived. Is there a technical reason for this?
  18. I have used Alternate Start several times with some being, choose the vanilla opening and the game did seem more stable. Twice I chose give me a random start and that was really different. The first one started me as a wizard's assistant in some rocky cave. The second one started me as a a shipwrecked sailor on a sinking ship. Both were real changes to the start, with little equipment and no Dragonborn life, but interesting challenges. Even if doing vanilla game, Alternate Start is well worth it.
  19. If it has been a long time then you should probably be sure you have all of the DLC expansions, as some mods require them. Also many mods have been added very recently. The list above covered the areas you requested very well. I am going to add some ideas you may want to try as they have become part of the standard load for me. 'Immersive Amazing Follower Tweaks' - allows multiple followers like: Recorder Sofia Inigo Vilja and many others Recorder and Sofia are both female followers that will add a lot of excitement at times. Inigo is one of the most complete and effective followers. Vilja is female follower that is a bit more restrained and subtle in action. For personal and follower use add 'Convenient Horses'. That changes the game in many ways that are more enjoyable. Also add 'Carriage and Ferry Travel Overhaul' as a major enhancement to the environment. For big improvements in locations add: Open Cities of Skyrim Solitude Expansion JK's Riverwood JK's Whiterun JK's Whiterun Outskirts Magical College of Winterhold Winterhold Restored Breezehome for Free reward for killing dragon instead of paying Breezehome Upgrades for Free " " For improved atmosphere and actions. You might look at the online descriptions on each of these for some interesting ideas: Andromeda Audio Overhaul for Skyrim 2 Better Dialog Controls Better MessageBox Controls Cutting Room Floor Dawnguard Delayed Dragonborn Delayed Even Better Quest Objectives Honed Metal GKX Barrels and Crates Hunterborn Immersive Citizens Daedric Stealth Suit and Unborn Bow (by same author) Imperious Legacy of the Dragonborn Ordinator Realistic AI Detection Realistic Water 2 Relationship Dialog Overhaul There are so many small ones that add something special it is hard to decide. That means you will have to play many games to really get your money's worth. What a shame... LOL
  20. I'm, pretty lousy with a bow but it is my favorite playstyle. Initially, I can't hit anything with the bows as configured in vanilla and normal mods, since no aiming sight sometimes in sneak mode. So, I always use the mod 'Scoped Bows' which puts sights on most of them, or you can craft the sights yourself. I use whatever bows I can find until I'm able to get the 'Bound Bow' at Fort Amol (?). That gives you 100 daedric-equivalent arrows whenever you use it as a conjured item. Advantages are you never run out of arrows and you can't lose the bow. The 'Bound Sword' is a very handy sidekick also. If using 'Scoped Bows', the 'Bound Bow' has a very nice one too. There is an interesting technique you can use to improve all related skills. Near the town of Invarstad there is a waterfall you can follow downhill. At the bottom of the hill lives a troll with a semi-cave home. Follow the trail alongside the waterfall and at the bottom sneak across to the other side of the river and up that hillside. At the top of the hill sneak back towards the river and position yourself on the rocks directly opposite the troll's cavern. This is a bit of a long archery shot and the intent is to hit the troll once with each arrow but not to kill it. The longer you stay in the position, the more your skills increase. If you are using a regular bow, bring lots of arrows, any kind works as we only wound him with one. Thus both sneak and archery skills improve because you are really doing both of those consistently. The point is to hit him with an arrow while causing sneak damage then wait for the next one. You can spend a lot of time there getting many increases , or stay a short time and then return later for follow on practice. If using the 'Bound Bow' each time you also get increases to the Conjuration skills.
  21. Based on all of these observations, BGS has a major faux pas on their hands. They might lose part of their base and piss off newer gamers if F76 is too money driven. It seems to me, if they have wanted to do a space game for so long, then Starfield is what they should have been doing this year as a multiplayer game to test all of the waters. That way don't lose one money source while chasing another. As it is, money may win out but some people have long memories and future efforts may suffer.
  22. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, downloaded it for a later: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/8053 This could be worth trying...
  23. I have seen several positive comments about Arissa as a companion, but she is still only in old skyrim and not nexus SSE. Has anyone converted her so she can work in SSE?
  24. This new Fallout game raises a couple questions for me. My background for games was totally on the PC up until about 7 or 8 years ago. At that time I was a big fan of the Silent Hunter submarine series. I played version 4 constantly and it was the last of the series to be offline. Version 5 did basically the same thing as this new Fallout version, requiring constant online connectivity, which I didn't have. The complaints were loud, even from some real Navy submariners who couldn't play the game while at sea. At that time it was obvious PC games were going to steam and the online world. I decided to move to a game console and reviewed the ones available, with it coming down to PS3 or XB360. The XB360 also required a network connection just to use it; while the PS3 allowed for offline single-player standalone. I went with the PS3. The PS4 provided the same capability when it came out. Every game I have on the PS platform is a standalone version (up to FO4, Dishonored 2, Far Cry 4, etc.) and only required online connectivity for multiplayer actions. I haven't looked at Far Cry 5 yet, but it seems as if there is an unwritten agreement between Sony and game developers for PS games to have a standalone version. The world of mods may be the restriction there but I'm interested in seeing how Fallout 76 meets that soft Sony requirement.
  25. Great! Thanks for the response. I am using Mod Organizer 2, and getting another drive shouldn't be too difficult. Multiple profiles could be fun...
