  1. I block adds on general principle. They are the blight of the web. Because they are too dangerous, containing often malicious software, the website owner has no control over them at all, he can only react after something bad things happen. I do not block adds from the site itself, though, only third party sites. But there is no way in hell I deactivate "uBlock Origin" or "noscript". Never ever. But I payed via paypal in the past, for this website ... more than one time. Because, like I said before, I don't do any exceptions for any 3rd party advertises in existance, but I have to pay for that privilige. At least I am feeling that way. Please understand my point of view. We can talk about a more regular payment, because I think this site is very important for the modding community and the mod users in general.
  2. Please inform me, after you found a provider you can trust. After that, and only after that I am willing to whitelist your website. As you can see, I have already paid something. And I am willing to pay more. But I am absolute against any flash ads, popups, and I am highly allergic to flickering, sounds, and ads, that are positioned other the things, I want to see. And to malware, trojans, PC data encrypters and any virus in general. I block all ads without exception since 1990 with the first adblocker, the Siemens Webwasher, but I am willing to make an exception for you, because you are willing to change something on your side of the web. If it does not workout, I have a suggestion for you. Test the ads yourself, and put the ones in your website, that you think are appropriate. Maybe you can get to an agreement with your provider about that. The real problem is, as you have seen for yourself, the unending stream of s#*!, that you are not aware of, hitting your customers. I said this many, many times on other websites, that begged us, to whitelist them, that I won't block their site, if THEY choose the ads personally they show us. And that they take responsibility, if some malware reaches us. P.S. Do you know one thing about Flash from a programmers viewpoint? There is no way in hell to make flash secure, because of the compability with older versions. It's not possible, without using an external parser and interpreter, before running the code.
  3. In response to post #30244950. #30259185, #30295245 are all replies on the same post. I agree. Besides, a donate button near the download button makes NO sense, because you have to test the mod first. I will make much more sense if you are endorsing the mod. Because at that point you are sure, the mod is a worthwhile one. And make it easy, giving some predefined values for donating, starting with 1$. It's like a tip in a restaurant. It's very easy, and people a likely to pay 1$ or 2$ without thinking about it. Maybe there should be one button, that gives the autor 1$ and endorses at the same time, making it very easy to pay at least a little tip, while endorsing the mod? I bet, that would even appeal to the people, who normaly don't pay anything. This is the point, there I am most likely to make a donation. But I will never ever make a donation while downloading a new mod. Maybe it should be worked into the Nexus Mod Manager, too?
  4. In response to post #30252385. #30253160, #30295295 are all replies on the same post. And I will buy FO4 only after the editor arrives. I do not play vanilla Bethesda games, they are far too easy for me. So that I can mod it myself for my own taste. I made that error once with oblivion. I was almost bored to death. The problem is, that the vanilla versions of their games are only for casual gamers. The second good thing is, that Bethesda had fixed some of the bugs after that time, and the fans can take over bug fixing, after the Mod editor is released. That's the second reason I do not buy these games any longer on release day. Bethesda isn't able to fix most of their bugs, even if their life would depend on it. They are better than Obsidion, who showed cleary their lack of talent for bugfixing, even critical ones, in New Vegas But nonetheless, it's annoying for me. The third point is, that I get the game at a lesser price, after that time. But that's only a bonus, I would buy it anyway. But one point let me hesitate the most. After they tried to sell 3rd party DLC aka. paid mods, I am not so sure about the freedom of the next Editor any longer. And I definitly won't buy a game with an editor that includes DRM! That is what I fear the most.

No, I think this action from valve this weekend was a wakeup call for many users. Let's wait and see.

Of course it was doomed. Because they did not thought hard enough of the difference in mods. It's one thing to "sell hats", but another thing, trying to sell different categories of mods. There would be no problem at all with cosmetic mods. This "silly things" can be made within hours. Please dear item and texture modders, take no offense, but in comparison to other things, this mods are way easier and not so time intensive. like constant script testing, or quest making. But, what is with really large mods, sometimes projects with over 15 man-years? You have to pay for their work, like for a game. because they need to buy their tools, because they are no longer free to use. And for their hard work, of course. And you need to warranty updates and QA. What about mods, that are basicly patches, like the unofficial patches mods, SKSE, SKY-UI, MCM, and many others. These have to be FREE for the players, and should be paid by the developers of the game, because it's their damn responsibility, to patch this bad PC port. If you do not do this, you can bet, that someone would have taken SKY-UI 4.1 and changed it to a new community version, therefore making the paid version obsolete and ultimatly incompatible to new mods. And what did they do? These f*#@ing idiots from valve TOOK money from these authors. What about total conversions? These are basicly complete addons and new games. In these cases they had to offer payment and QA. And a warranty for patches, before even selling them. These are NO HATS, these are complete programs! What about compilations, a real legal nightmare? How would they handle this. The method from valve: "Simple grab it, all on the nexus is free" did not work out so well, as we have seen. I call it intellectual property theft by them. What about the tool programmers, like TESEDIT, BOSS, LOOT, WRYE-bash, and so on which work you used. They have to be paid too, if you "go commercial". How did they plan to do this? What about Rule changing mods like SkyRe These mods are compability horror shows and are most likely to break any other mod, coming near them in half, if not given a compability patch? You have to ensure QA for this. And a LOT of patches. So, dear mod authors, do not complain, that you now cannot get money any more, be thankful, what they do not throw YOU under the bus like all modders, who make more than a silly item for the game! And do not forget, they took the distribution rights, AND the rights to change your mod as THEY see fit. Do you really know, what that meant. They take your work, and it is no longer YOURS. If you try something like this in the future, don't be blinded by money, get a lawyer, before agreeing to anything. I know that people are assholes, but live with that fact! Ignore them. Remember, why you are modding in the first place! I do it primary for myself, if I do not like something in the game. But kick this ungrateful assholes out of your comments and out of your life. Don't even waste your time on them. If they do not show respect, don't respect them. In this cases, I am a very evil person.
  7. The only thing I can see is: We won. I feel joy. The destruction has stopped. But we should be vigilant, because pandoras box was openend this weekend. Another thing for you: Make your donation system easier. I do not like to fill out every field, only for donating "pocketchange" from my paypal account to another. It is too much, a hassle, so I don't do it. The name and email address is sufficient. Additionally I am not willing to give more info.

I do not blame you at all. I know how this corporates work, telling halftruths and ouitright lies, saying complete other things, that are written in their conditions. You have been abused by them. You are a victim, as we are, as customers and moders. But take your time now, you need it, to get yourself together again. I know, what I am talking about, because I will be never ever able to work again, because of my depressions. You got only a taste, of what these corporates are capable off, and I bet, it already left a foul taste in your mouth. I wish you the best in your future, get back the passion for creating things.

As I said before, distribution rights are very expensive, and you have to calculate the hours you worked on them into it. They have been robbed. By st"EA"m. in open daylight. If you take the "normal" income of a developer, take the sum BEFORE taxes, and company costs, multiply them with the hours you worked at the project. That is the sum, you have to name, to be paid UP FRONT, for the exclusive distribution rights ONLY. the 25% comes afterward. No wonder st"EA"m must think that we all are "useful fools". IF the EX-3rd party DLC authors are lucky, they can use their pre-workshop mod here on the nexus, as a base for their next mod patch, without getting sued from steam. But it's more likely, they will never ever mod again, because st"EA"m ruined their motivation, and their hobby. And of course will these mods be all taken out next week. These new exploiting model from steam are basicly all "lawsuits to happen". There is no way, they can get all rights, or all people involved agreeing with them. Some will not agree on principle. St"EA"m and Zeni$max do not understand the motivation of some modders, making a little better world, giving something back to the mankind in generell, to lighten up their karma a bit, or simply to master something. These people, as working like slaves for their hobby, do not care about money. Another reason st"EA"m is able to fool them, and more important, rob them their WORK, leaving NOTHING but rubble in their wake. How does this really help modding, hm? So I'm off, Playing some new detected skyrim mod. Oh, and don't forget to deactivate the update function on st"EA"m. Or maybe a new patch forbids the use of free mods ....
  10. In response to post #24673489. If he only could do that entirely. For the 25% of the income before taxes, he had signed the distribution rights to Valve .... like every other 3rd party DLC author, too, I might add ... How COULD they do that. Do you know the value of that. Or are the modders really "usefull fools" like someone in the steam forum said, Valve must think of them. If you really plan to do such a thing, please take a calculator, and multiply the work hours, you spend on your project with at least 25$ ! That is the sum, they have to cough up UP FRONT, if they want the exclusive distribution rights.

They hide the number of disapprovals, too. very unethical business practise. I won't buy anything from a business any longer, who tries this shady approach and censorship.
  12. In response to post #24670454. #24670809 is also a reply to the same post. Do not buy their next games, if they make DRM based modding tools. That is, what WE can do. Remember, there is NO way in hell, they are able to make a bug low product, what does not ctd in 10 minutes tops, without the help of the modders of the unofficial patches. And remember the corupted save games after 20 hours? How will THEY ever fix that. They are far too sloppy, to have a chance to fix it. If they have no free modding, this games are no different from any abbandoned early access s#*!. DO NOT BUY THEM, in this case. And for gods sake, stop buying games on steam, until this is sorted out. I've gone offline, deleted my wishlist, reset the store configuration, and removed my workshop subscription. It's up to ourselves, to do something. Do not wait on any "reactions" from other side. They will only spout bullshit bingo statements. Start acting yourself! Don't wait. Money, and NOT buying anything until now is the only VALID statement in their eyes, they will accept. Only the loss of money, that is.
  13. In response to post #24648364. #24648734 is also a reply to the same post. That is a point I cannot stress out enough. If you get in bed with these big companies, consult a lawyer! And change the paper you have to sign, as YOU see fit, even deleting paragraph's. And never ever give anyone exclusive distribution rights. If you do that, it's irrevesible, your work is lost. These has to be compensated. Simple calculate the hours, you worked for a mod, multiply them with 25-30$. That is the sum, they have to pay at least for that! You have to pay taxes for that, Don't forget that! They have to pay YOU for your time. With gving away your work, you have to be compensated for the lifetime you invested in it.
  14. That is exactly that I fear, too. That everyone with a brain fears. It takes 24 hours, and one DMCA takedown notice, to get rid of this site. The easy donation buttons should be priority number one, because What they need for their plans to succeed are willing and good modders. Maybe we can use it to donate for your coming lawsuit, too. ;) And it will come, believe me. You're site is bigger than st"EA"ms Here has every modder to decide for himself, if he wants to be a 3rd party DLC author, or a creative unbound free modder. Make NO mistake, like I did once! If you make your hobby into a real job, it will cost you big time. It will wear you out. What steam does not tell you, because they did not realize it themselves ... or they lie about it .. is, that you are working under a complete other legal enviroment, there you have to be 100% responsible for your work, including refunds. Even steam cannot change customer protection laws. In my oppinion there is no such thing as a paid mod. Only "3rd party DLC". Mods are always free and domnating is free will, too. And if st"EA"m tried to pay the free mod authors, they did remarkaable bad job. Not even asking the modders, who they need to contact, too. Maybe it was never their intention? P.S. I feel sorry for Chesko. How can we help him get over this? He really believed st"EA"m.

I do not have anything against "3rd party DLC". But the modders and Valve have to take legal responsibility. If a 3rd party DLC cease to work fter a game patch, update or refund. If a 3rd party DLC has conflicts with another 3rd party DLC, update or refund. No mod parts without permission of the original author. Nexus mods are NOT legally ripe for the taking, as valve seems to think. Fraud control. No stealing and selling of the work of others, BEFORE it is sold in the steam workshop as 3rd party DLC. Beside that, I have a massive poblem with only 25% income before taxes for all "3rd party DLC" authors. And I think that steam has to work on the issues above, alone for the 30%, they are taking! Taking 75% for themselves and the developer company is just plain greedy. -------------------- Mods are free. There is no such thing as a paid mod. It is called "3rd party DLC".
  16. Paid mods are no longer mods. Paid mods aren't any longer "Mods". They are operating on another legal base than free mods. Steam tries to suggest, they are like mods, but you have to honor the authors, by paying them, but that is simple not true. Paid mods are "3rd party DLC" Differences between Mods and "3rd party DLC" "3 Party DLC" -------------------- - Cost money. No donations allowed. - They are not working in a gray area any longer. Because the game owner takes 45% of the income. The 3rd party DLC is legal. - The 3rd party DLC has to work legal correct. -- This means, the author has to honor all customer protection laws of different countries. -- He has to honor all copyrights corrctly. Even the ones of mod authors! Very important point. -- He is responsible for patches. -- He has to work under industrial standard rules, so that someone else can easy take over his project. -> documentation. This is in his own interest, too. -- has to take full responsibility for incompabilities with other mods/3rd party DLC. This means even a refund, if the problem does not get solved within a numner of time. In europe 3 tries and 2 weeks time max. -- has to take responsibility for update his 3rd party DLC after a game patch. - Because he has this responsibilities, he needs to be in contact with the developers, if some bugs prevents the function of his mod. Here has valve to act for his 30 % take. If they do not do this, it's refund time ... - is forced to maintain the 3rd party DLC for the lifetime of the main program. Can be 10 years, depending on country. So documentation is in his own interest, if the author wants to quit. - will be distributed through the steam workshop. 3rd Party DLC author has no longer the rights to remove the content. Or alter the terms of the digital contract he signed his soul to. - will be removed from other sites. This would be only logical consequence. We are only at the beginning of the process Valve tries to install, so wait. - All other free Mod authors are competitors. -- Think about it, if someone invents the same module, you try to make money with. Because he can, and the 3rd party DLC is no longer a free mod. -- Even the mod authors, from whom he taken the work, can decide not to give you as 3rd party DLC owner the newest patch of his work, because he uses it in another Mod, or even a competitors 3rd party DLC. - They can usually not use the content of other 3rd party DLC authors. - There will be DRM in the future. - The source code will be hidden and encrypted. "Mods" ---------- - are free of charge, donations possible. - are in a legal gray are. - take no responsibility for functionality, bugfixing and incompabilities with patches and other mods. - use of mods is always on your own risk. - Author can quit anytime. - all other mod authors can work together, not fearing their work will be exploited by other authors. - "3rd party DLC" will exploit their work. It already happened, with the the acceptance of Valve, saying that all mods on the nexus are "free for the taking". That is NOT true. - They can usually not use the work of 3rd party DLC for mods. I hope that will help you to understand the difference between Modding and making 3rd party DLC.
  17. In response to post #24600469. #24600889 is also a reply to the same post. LOL
  18. In response to post #24600569. You can see the "steam support" you get from the example of this case. If he used the animations without permission of the author, to make MONEY with it, then he violated his copyrights. That is a simple, undeniable truth, in our legal systems today. Theft is too much to say. He did not steal anything. As a modder you are alone with all these legal problems, and the upcoming support you have to do in the future, because of the lawsuits to come. The european courts will sue the modauthors. A much simpler target than steam. If you have an incompatibility with another mod, or, as example, with a new patch in fallout 4, only god is able to help you. What I am saying is, that this system is so full of loopholes, and potential financial traps, that it has to be shut down immediatly. I personally feel for the mod-author, that he was used by Valve. The 3rd party DLC system they invented isn't ready at all. Because in modding you WILL have mod conflicts, and you have to refund more, than in any other part that steam sells so far. Otherwise it will attract more customer protection organisations than a piece aof s#*! attracts flies.
  19. In response to post #24597589. #24597689, #24597789, #24597819, #24598324, #24598539, #24598784, #24598839, #24600374, #24600439 are all replies on the same post. Ok, I am going back to the steam form, making some more dust to settle. Bye. A paywall for mods, violation all european consumer rights on that way, giving the companies 75% of the money, encouraging DMCA takedown notices, is a very bad idea for modding. I have to do something about it. Even if it is only useless ranting.
  20. In response to post #24599274. #24599654, #24599739, #24599814, #24599859, #24600179, #24600414 are all replies on the same post. They do not get it. Nexus is only for free to use, not free to make money with it. For that, you NEED the confirmation of the content owners or mod authors. The author of SKSE decided that his work is free in the future, even for paid content. because he knows, that his work is legally questionable, modifying the EXE in some points. Bethesda can him shut down hard, if he resists. But if you have used only the Editor from bethesda, you have a different position. Because they allowed you to create things and mods for the game, and distribute them.
  21. In response to post #24599479. I am ranting for hours now, not getting banned. :D You need to know, how to do it properly. Only pointing out the numbers: - 45% for Zenimax for doing nothing at all. - 30% for Steam, doing nothing than deliver the mods. - 25 % for the hard working modder. Before taxes, of course. 20% VAT for europeans. Are simple facts. No need to get banned for that. ;)
  22. In response to post #24596944. #24597759, #24597794, #24597919, #24598154, #24599534 are all replies on the same post. That if we as community, put some prize money in a pool. Even if it is only 1$ per person? Would that help. Including money for the mods of the year, or something like that.
  23. There is an additional point, you need to be aware of. Modding is in a gray area. With the new bussiness modell of steam, giving the developer studios 45% of the profits, they will try to take you down. Soon. If the modell generates enough income, that is. You can bet on this. Greed will do that. Only ONE DMCA takedown notice is sufficient to do the trick. I can only say to all of you, get the mods you need, and save them on your harddisk ASAP.
