  1. I played with the pre-Creation Club set-up for a long time because I hated the the CC updates, how it added unwanted stuff to your pc, etc. but I did encounter some issues with mods like Better Explosives. Also F4SE and ENB updates and all other essentials kind of develop onwards while you stay back and need to keep an even more vigilant eye on compatibility requirements. Lately I had to reinstall the game and figured I'd try the latest version for a change. Haven't looked back, to be honest. Everything runs very smooth and stable now and I'm playing the best modded FO4 since years. Just keep your steam on the right settings so it won't force a non-consensual update on your behind anymore.
  2. Yes, I think so, though deactivating might cause issues when there are still archives and files in your data folder that get read by the game when it starts up. Really depends on the mod.
  3. Ouch :( So you started a new character? Mods might conflict with your intro sequence. It's often best to activate most mods when you are out of the vault for them to install properly in your save but next to that: Crashes like that are often related to things in your install folder not adding up. Like a .ba2 archive in your data folder without the related mod being activated, missing files or some kind of other mod conflict. Did you try verifying your game files through steam?
  4. Best to first disable most other mods before starting a new game with start me up, as they won't install properly is my experience. Also the vanilla intro sequence can cause issues with activated mods. Best to first get out of the vault to activate most mods.
  5. Doesn't really match up with your previous topic where you said: "I've had a lot of fun playing with mods. Some are really good, even essential." And where you addressed a problem you had regarding loading times on cell change. I grant you that it can take time to have everything you want run smoothly but if it does, it's awesome. Had to reinstall myself a few weeks back but now my game is tweaked just right and all mods are behaving like they should. It's best to take things one step at a time. As soon as you run into a problem with mods, ask for help here or look up some guides on performance tweaking, load orders, etc. and always read the descriptions of mods and check for any requirements. Once you get the hang of the right way to mod FO4 it becomes less of a hassle. Never assume that every mod out there is plug and play. Another tip would be keeping an archive of all mods you have installed in another directory. I save and unpack all mods first in an external location so I can see what files it adds or replaces, giving you manual control and also teaching you about file structure and the way mods work. So why exactly did you have to reinstall 4 times? What was your exact issue? It could have been something much easier to solve than with reinstalling. Stuff like posting the contents of your plugins.txt file would help a lot to give you advice on your mod choice / load order, etc.
  6. It's a theory that fails to recognize human nature. I know that you didn't want us to discuss all the bad (and failed) examples of communism in history, but the lack of successes does also teach us something about the theory and how well it resonates with reality. I read some posts about it a few pages back where this point was addressed but not fully understood. We are, at our very core and first and foremost ... individual animals. Selfishness and competition are just as embedded in our genes like our dependency on water and oxygen. Put any ten very hungry people in a prison cell and drop in one loaf of bread and they will fight over it, regardless of their political views or convictions. This is not a pretty side of humanity when it comes to achieving goals for the benefit of us all, and of course it is held in check by the opposite motivation, empathy, to give us the ability to work together in groups, (ironically, also helping us in our competition with OTHER groups), but that also evolved to better our personal chances of success and survival of our own genes. So communism doesn't reflect our nature all too well as it attempts to defy thousands of millions of years of evolution. We aren't too good at sharing with anyone apart from our closest ones and we live and breath competition in much more ways than most people can imagine. Sadly capitalism does a much better job at reflecting our nature as it revolves around it. Repressing our nature requires strict adherence by everyone for it to work, which requires a repressive government, leaving too much power with too few, at which human nature kicks in again with it's wonderful ability to corrupt anyone which has too much power for too long. p.s. I don't think capitalism as we see it today is the way forward at all and we do need to intervene in our own success as a species to make the world a better place for future generations and start wising up by doing the things we do a lot more efficient and smarter.
  7. Good stuff! I think that fog is weather or climate related. Play around a bit with the NAC Settings holotape in your inventory. You can change the weather type too.
  8. Same here. I can imagine some people might find it a bit overwhelming but that's mainly because they haven't put in the time yet to discover what it has to offer. It's essentially a 10 fold expansion of the vanilla building sets. 0_0
  9. Nope, it's the mark before all your installed mods in your plugins.txt file: * Actually I misspelled it; it's "asteriks." So add your esm's and esp's to that plugins.txt file like that: *NAC.esm *NAC-FarHarbor.esp *NAC-NukaWorld.esp Doesn't matter so much where you add the .esp lines but the .esm line should be above all esp's.
  10. You need to add those entries manually I think. With an asterix like I wrote above. Like the rest of your mods in your plugins.txt. And be sure to add the NAC.esm file at the top.
  11. Alright, so where is your *NAC.esm *NAC-FarHarbor.esp *NAC-NukaWorld.esp ? :)
  12. I think a lot of people have similar issues but it's not all the same. The (probably) DCMS related bug that I encountered around level 70 with just a few active settlements, led to me not being able to assign any settler to anything, at all. At every workshop I tried. So there might be a difference with some of the issues other people describe. I lost a ton of characters as I uninstalled DCMS which had always been in my loading order to prevent it from happening in the future. Some of them I might be able to resurrect but all my old saves are corrupted. Removing the mod (DCMS) will cause random CTD's often (a bit like Morrowind / New Vegas / Oblivion but I'm not that nostalgic  ) Cleaning saves with Falrim tools couldn't solve that (as far as I've tried, that is. Not saying that it can't be done). I already moved on though. Ended up completely reinstalling and updating the game after that, which I don't regret as it runs a lot smoother now  I wonder if Bethesda has updated the settler scripts and behavior in the meantime, because they seem to behave a lot better than before on vanilla parameters. Less chatter, etc. If they have, that could explain problems with a lot of mods that address them too ...
  13. Yup, that one is what I use. And I use F4SE as well, so that's not your problem either. really weird. It sounds, in all regards, like your mods aren't loading. As you seem to install manually (like myself as well), can you post your plugins.txt file with your load order?
  14. The Cat's Meow might be a great example on how it's done. Love it as it fits the game perfectly. Also includes awesome voice work. In regards to copyright the Nexus is strict and people get warnings and take-downs on a regular basis. You need to get permission to use any protected material that isn't in the public domain.
  15. Heya, I'm a big fan of NAC myself but can't understand its requirement to only install a few files from ENB either. That disabled my shift - enter ENB menu. So I also installed the latest ENB fully and USE NAC in conjunction with Vanilla ENB from here on the nexus, which is pretty lightweight. (First installed ENB binary, then Vanilla ENB, then NAC). Overwrite files when needed and afterwards don't forget to optimize your ENB.ini with your correct memory settings as your personal choice of ENB might replace the value in the ini with settings that are too low). This still give me full access to the ENB menu in game and works fine. Now NAC comes with its own ingame menu as you might have noticed. If you haven't you might have installed it incorrectly as the NAC files, .ini included, should go in the Data folder, not the install folder as the author forgot to put his files in a Data folder before shipping  Also make sure you enable mods. If all is well, NAC will first start with some pop-up choices for you to make, also setting textures to neutral coloration preset and a choice of NAC's climate settings. After that you can tweak just about everything in its holotape menu. Personally I had to tone down exposure and brightness a bit and could use a bit more saturation. Good luck!
  16. Never edited hair myself but it's best to first install the Creation Kit and read some basic tutorials on its functions if you haven't and take a look at how the vanilla game handles hair. Also looking at the structure of existing hair mods and inspecting what files they add will probably help you a lot. There's a lot of good examples out there. Good luck!
  17. And so it would seem. Such a demonstration of patience and persistence in the eye of insurmountable difficulties, surely is an inspiration to us all.
  18. Good on yer mate. I am making sandy beaches a bit more white & sandy at the moment. Fun too.
  19. Pick your poison: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/categories/45/?BH=2 (Best to sort on endorsements for the most popular ones, but keep in mind that more recent mods get less endorsements because of the much depleted player base nowadays). Some of my favorite ones that you didn't mention are Build Your Own Pool, Northland Diggers, CWSS and Do It Yourshelf. Also not sure if you meant Snappy House Kit because I love that one too. To top it off a shameless plug of my own mod; Beach Workshop ^_^ p.s. Your workshop rearranged mod might conflict with many of them. Load that one last of all workshop mods.
  20. Not sure how things are organized for Creation Club content as I don't use any of it. Might require special measures that I'm not aware of. But like I said: each item in the game has the following; - A mesh (.nif file) with the 3-D object - A material file (.bgsm) where the textures for the object are linked - Texture files (.dds), most often a diffuse, normal and specular map like mentioned above. You probably need only the diffuse map ( _d.dds) if you want to change the color. Now all this might be packed in a ba2 archive. To unpack it somewhere so you can edit the loose files you need the BAE extractor found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/78/ If you add your adjusted texture file(s) to the right folder structure and maintain all the right names it will overwrite the files from the original archive when you load your game, meaning your new texture will show up, rather than the original one which is what you want. Also you might need to read up on some guides on plugins for photoshop / gimp to export the .dds files in the right way. (I mostly use the Nvidia plugin and DTX1 for diffuse maps without alpha channel and DTX5 for diffuse maps with alpha). But some trial and error is part of modding too so don't be afraid to experiment, just make sure you can always trace back your steps and undo unwanted changes by keeping backup files. Good luck!
  21. Did you try and open the diffuse texture? Sounds like you opened the normal map, (normals end with _n.dds, diffuse maps containing color information end with _d.dds, while specular maps containing certain material properties end with _s.dds). Most objects have these 3 texture types and are linked to the mesh using a material file.
  22. Disclaimer: Most stuff might be very obvious to experienced players & tweakers and I wouldn't call myself an expert on hardware and tweaking at all, but it can't be bad to inform those with similar issues as I had as it might help some of them. If you have additional tips, feel free to add them! Problem: Annoyingly low fps with a modified game on a little higher than recommended system, especially in busy settlements and Boston area. System: Win 10 / NVidia GTX 970 / Intel i7 / 16GB Ram / SSD / no HD Texture pack installed I've done a lot of reading and trial and error in the past days because my fps was struggling since I discovered the NAC mod which works together with ENB's to add a lot of atmosphere and control to your game's environment, (to both exteriors and interiors). I like NAC so much that I really didn't want to play without it anymore. Downside was a hefty fps hit on my regular installation. Not exactly sure if NAC was the cause of it but it seemed to coincide with my performance issue as well as upgrading my game to the latest version. I think it was a case of 'one big addition too much' along with ENB & an environment overhaul. The game also started to feel pretty laggy outside of Boston. Stuff I found: - Environment (green) overhauls that break the precombined meshes of the vanilla game can be a huge resource hog. I have played with Regrowth for ages and love it dearly, but removing it and replacing it with Another Green Mod gave me a very noticeable fps boost, as it seems it doesn't break precombined meshes (that much?) and doesn't change as much landscape in populated areas while being very similar to Regrowth in the amount of quality foliage and green stuff it adds. - NVidia has a very insightful guide on game settings, what they do and how much of an impact on performance & graphics various settings have. (Also valuable info for ATI users). To me that was an eye opener and it allowed me to squeeze a couple more FPS out of my system here and there by lowering settings that don't impact the graphics as much as I thought they would. - There's a nice guide on steam on fps optimization too; some of the suggested ini tweaks and nexus mods helped me get a little more performance. - While changing ini, game and Nvidia settings, I had an annoying bug happen where some nearby textures, starting at 10 feet or so, like roads and workshop items became very blurry / lores. Spend hours to retrace all my changes and after almost giving up on it, I eventually solved it by resetting my general Nvidia control panel settings to default before changing them again. Can't tell you what the specific offending setting was but it seemed to be something it wasn't supposed to do in any case. So currently my system is tanking the game again. I do get occasional very short drops to around 30ish in Boston and on cell changes but mostly it runs around the 60 limit set by ENB. Most importantly, it feels smooth and responsive again without a big loss in graphics, but with a landscape overhaul, Enhanced Vanilla ENB and NAC installed, as well as pretty far viewing distances and a high level of detail. Cheers, Dikr
  23. My money is on unique player! It will probably tell your game to load meshes and textures from another place than the default data/textures/actors/character/basehumanfemale & data/meshes/actors/character/basehumanfemale directories. Uninstall that mod and you should be good. Or find a specific bodyslide patch for it so you can also build your unique player body to the same preset in BS.
