  1. I'll say honestly I never used the Endorsement system. Not because of laziness or whatever, but because I honestly didn't know it was important. When I look at mods to download, I look at total downloads, what the mod does, how well written the mod notes were, has it been updated recently, the general topics of the comments and the general demeanor of the mod author. I had pretty much blanked out endorsements because it was just a button click. I'll make sure I make use of it now. Sorry for the inattention.

I trip skipped through every other page from Aug9, 2013 to today and the only things not a positive review were bug reports, general requests for help on compatibility and requests for item (all politely posed) because they loved your work. Over 8k endorsements, 144k + unique DL's. I get the feeling people love your work and let you know... overwhelmingly.
  3. Let's try this again. If this is a double post, please forgive. It looks like the first post was eaten. --------------------------- Well, I've had a night's sleep after spending hours here, Steam forums, and in a Steam protest group chat. Typically when I get riled up at something on the internet, I burn for a while, then thought settles in and I decide maybe I overreacted in some way. Let me check... Nope, I still feel the same way. This is just the beginning. An expiriment on an old and well established, well loved game title with a tight-knit community. Introduce *change*, throw a few sacrificial lambs to the wolves (approached modders under NDA. Sorry guys, you were used like tools then thrown away), weather the storm of the internet backlash. The next step is some form of capitulation by Valvthesda. Something they've already planned. And make no mistake, this has been in the planning for months. Modders under NDA a month ago, talks between Valve and Bethesda, lawyers, accounting, programming, etc. This is not something that developed overnight. Anyway, capitulation... Valvthesda throwing a bone to the wolves and hoping that they've both picked one users will accept cause it's 'better' (just look at people saying %25 is better than nothing, despite how insulting that actually is), and beaten users into submission by the sheer volume of outrage (noise) previously generated. Now that everyone's settled into a model that the short attention spans of the masses will accept. Bethesda drops the next big game at E3 (or wherever) where all mods will be paid... to support modders!!!!! And anyone creating content that's not both on steam and behind a paywall will get a cease-and-desist order. Now, expand this to other moddable games in the future. Valve sells this idea and whatever model they've settled on to publishers. Welcome to the world of paying for patches created by users, not in-house developers. Some will resist, some will say no, but some will see the dollar signs. And the people who know nothing of forums or other sites will buy into it. Valve and the Bethesdas will maintain hands off, and we loose. Yes, modders should have the opportunity to be rewarded for their hard work. But this is blurring the line between a modder creating something out of love (for the game, for creation itself, etc) and third-world sweat shop DLC and patch development.
  4. In response to post #24616184. #24619149, #24619404 are all replies on the same post. You reposted so I'll repost ;p This isn't just for you, but any modder considering this. I'm not going to say whether or not I agree, I wish you luck. But. I do think you do yourself a diservice by choosing to do this *now*. This is new, people are in an uproar, Valvthesda is exploiting modders with the percentage (opinion). Are the potential repercussions worth putting your mod up on day two of the storm?

(ie, I don't know what you're talking about :D) edit: Ohhh ok. I mean what percentage from people who will be posting Blender content, not Skyrim mods.
  7. In response to post #24613709. lol I encountered a mod like this a couple of months ago when I was browsing Skyrim mods. I absolutely never figured out what the mod did. I finally chalked it up to being a dependency in some other mod.

There is certainly a lot of panic, and a deep breath is warranted, but sadly it's just the start. Blender is now up on Steam. Thankfully it's GPL, but what plans does Valve have for the inevitable Workshop content? What percentage will they be asking from content devs who want to post there? edit: Just to clarify, the second paragraph is my musing about future Blender content going into Steam Workshop

I stopped adblock yesterday, and after reading more posts today I went in on a Lifetime membership. I've been using Nexus on and off for years, and enjoying game mods since Doom. The way Valvthesda is doing this is horrible and only the tip of the iceberg. We need to keep Nexus and community modding alive.

I think it works. ;p Oh, and I won't be charging if people want to use it in their own posts. :D
  11. In response to post #24607884. #24609519 is also a reply to the same post. Yep. If this is even moderately successful, prepare to pay for Modding Tools DLC and Workshop only release permission behind payments.

  13. In response to post #24608314. #24608419, #24608604, #24608679 are all replies on the same post. I've seen that theres the option for the modder to list people who helped them create the mod so they get a portion of the money from sales. So Nexus doesn't get a portion of all sales, but gets something if the modder lists them. IMO I don't see a problem with this (not that I'm supporting anything Valvthesda is doing with paid mods, I'm not). If a modder wants to tip Nexus to show support, I'm for it. I think I saw it comes out of Valvthesda's cut, not the modder's, which is even better if true. But to reiterate, I don't support the entire scheme in any way, shape or form. I'm afraid Valvthesda will continue this no matter how much noise users make, however.
  14. In response to post #24605154. #24607209, #24607279, #24607314, #24607404, #24607539, #24607559, #24607699, #24607944, #24608144 are all replies on the same post. This is something modders need to pay attention to before using Steam for paid mods. Steam taking permanent possession of their work.
  15. After years of browsing Nexus, occasionally downloading something, then downloading more... and yes, blocking ads, I'm adding my support to the modding community I've enjoyed since the Doom days (all modders) with a lifetime sub to Nexus. I'm afraid this Valvethesda debacle is only a social/economic experiment that is the tip of a nasty iceberg. The next Bethesda game will limit modding to only those willing to put it up behind a paywall on Steam (initially?) so they get their cut. This is my prediction.
