Can't play Skyrim because of missing d3dx9_43.dll
MethosTR replied to TwilightDB's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
You should run Skyrim once before modding it, yes. This is to let the game generate its INI files. -
I've never used Open Cities, but I do have a theory on why it wouldn't work. Going in the vicinity of and into the city itself seems to make CPU usage spike, for some reason. Open Cities merges the cities it affects into the Skyrim worldspace, so this added strain overtaxes your CPU timing and causes immediate CTDs. That combined with all the heavy scripting your CPU is working on. I'm honestly surprised you can get Skyrim to run on that with all those mods :P

I can see this kind of feature being extremely annoying to those who value immersion in their playthroughs. If Bethesda ever makes a feature like this, it would have to be optional.
-
When you install a mod, especially one that uses scripting, it injects this data directly into your savegame. If you decide that you want to uninstall a mod, the scripts and other junk data do not get removed from your save. This causes the Papyrus engine to constantly try to look for the relevant data but it can't find anything. Therefore it causes a CTD. Minor mods that don't involve scripts are relatively safe to uninstall, but not guaranteed. Safe modding practices include reverting to a prior save that had never "seen" the mod when you uninstall said mod. Otherwise start a new game. Always make backups of your saves.

I think something like this would be next to impossible to implement. Skyrim's (primitive) engine can be molded to work with many things, but I doubt it includes this. Cool idea though.

Using Skyrim Performance Monitor with ENBoost
MethosTR replied to DynamicApple's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
The only real way to really work around it is to not use the overlay, unfortunately. -
It would certainly help if you posted your computer's specs. Otherwise, without any info on your system, anything could be the cause.

Using Skyrim Performance Monitor with ENBoost
MethosTR replied to DynamicApple's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Anything with an in-game overlay doesn't work at all with ENB. Even ENBoost. It has to do with the modified DX9 dll that it uses, which causes programs that inject themselves into the game (MSI, Skyrim monitor, Fraps, etc) flip out and cause a crash. Every time. The injector version of the ENB binaries do not use this dll file, so it should not cause crashing... But I don't know if ENBoost would work as an injector. I personally don't use ENB's as they make my laptop heat up like the surface of the sun. -
Best mod for needs (food,drinking,sleep)
MethosTR replied to ddeadmau5's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
iNeed may be newer but it doesn't have nearly the amount of features that RND has. @OP. If you want a simpler needs mod that won't complicate things too much for your chosen playstyles, use http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/51473/?. If you want one that's more tuned for an "immersion" or hardcore playthrough, you'll want RND. I can't say one way or another whether this will hold true in the future. iNeed is still pretty new and who knows what kind of changes it'll have in the future. However, as of now, RND is my preferred choice, though I have iNeed on track. May DL it for a non-immersion playthrough I may do in the near future though. -
Generally it comes down to this. If you're bored sick of Skyrim, download an overhaul mod (or mods) such as SkyRE, Requiem, etc. Also try a combat mod like TK combat, Ultimate Combat, or whatever suits your taste. I've had Skyrim since it came out and have sunk around 500-600 hours into the game in total. Recently I installed SkyRE, Frostfall, and a slew of other mods to make the game more challenging. I have to say that it's revitalized my interest in the game for the time being.

Can't play Skyrim because of missing d3dx9_43.dll
MethosTR replied to TwilightDB's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Just to rule something out, are you using a program like MSI Afterburner, Fraps, etc? Anything with an in-game overlay. -
LOL yea, I fondly remember the very first time I went into Vilverin in Oblivion. ...good times.
-
BOSS is no longer being updated, having been superseded by LOOT. With that said, LOOT has made some very questionable alterations to my load order, so I rarely use it. I typically organize it manually. Either program will work, but again, LOOT has functionally replaced BOSS.

I can't load an ENB with a GTX 770
MethosTR replied to xXDeathCrush6Xx's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Also having any program (Fraps, MSI Afterburner, etc) running with any kind of an in-game overlay will cause a CTD. These programs flip out when there's a modified d3d9 runtime going on the game they inject themselves into. Even the in-game overlay for Steam may or may not work, depending on which ENB version you have and other variables. -
My videocard (Asus Geforce 590 GTX) just died :*(
MethosTR replied to TwilightDB's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
You won't regret the purchase. I have an EVGA GTX 580 that I got back in early 2011 that is still rocking. Of all graphics cards I've had, my EVGA GTX 580 takes the cake as my all time favorite. -
I've had the impression that everyone has some level of apprehension about them.

MethosTR replied to TwilightDB's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
The ZOTAC label cards are a little hit or miss IMO. I have a friend IRL who had one, and it died about 6 months after he bought it. In terms of the card itself, the GTX 760 is more than capable of running Skyrim on maximum settings. However, if you have more money to spend, I would suggest getting a 770 to tide you over until the Volta generation comes in 2016. -
So has Nexus mods been wasting their time?

Personally I've had a lot of problems with MO. That and I've been using NMM for years now. I'm not changing :P -
Hardcore Immersive Playthrough. Any suggestions for mods?
MethosTR replied to MethosTR's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I prefer NMM. Mod Organizer has caused problems for me in the past. So far the mods are playing nice with each other. Configuring the Immersive First Person mod is a... process. However, the results are worth it :) The improvement to the game given by these mods has really resulted in a paradigm shift in how I get a character off the ground. About 4 hours of gameplay so far and I'm only level 6 :D As well as 6 bleedouts (Death Alternative mod) and 3 reloads. On top of all this, Frostfall really makes it brutal sometimes. I was taken out by a skeleton while trudging along with like 80% exposure, and it took forever to trudge along to find my gear that had been taken when I "died". That hardcore setting really piles a lot of crap on you at high exposure ratings. Granted I'm still learning the intricacies of these mods.- 20 replies

Hardcore Immersive Playthrough. Any suggestions for mods?
MethosTR replied to MethosTR's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Meh, I just decided to make clean saves of the characters I care about and uninstall the mods I don't need anymore. Also kind of cleaned them up with the save game cleaners I have. I'm beginning my playthrough today :)- 20 replies

Hardcore Immersive Playthrough. Any suggestions for mods?
MethosTR replied to MethosTR's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Always wanted to use Immersive HUD. I think if I install Immersive first person, I'll definitely get that as well, since crosshair aiming in the latter is a bit off. Now I'm wondering if it'll be easier to just back up my entire data folder to another location, delete the one in the default path, let Steam rebuild it, and reinstall the above mods... at the cost of probably never playing my main save (level 82) again. I have a ton of mods that may or may not play nice with ones like SkyRe or others. When I began a new save recently, I noticed that even if I uncheck their esp's in NMM, they still load in the MCM. When I check them out, it does say that their scripts are not running. Just want to make sure whether or not this is safe to continue on a new save with other (possibly incompatible) mods installed.- 20 replies

Mods that help with stability and crashing?
MethosTR replied to ForOdinForAsgard's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
LOOT http://loot.github.io/ ENBoost (works very well even if you don't run an ENB) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/38649/? (note: requires the latest ENB binary files from http://enbdev.com/download_mod_tesskyrim.htm) SKSE 1.7 (has a memory allocation patch included) http://skse.silverlock.org/ TES5EDIT (will clean the dirty edits and whatever else that LOOT flags for the mods you have) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25859/? Skyrim Save Cleaner (cleans junk data bloating your savegames) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31724/? Script Scalpel (cleans junk scripts from savegames) http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53045/? Protip: Always always always back up your saves BEFORE running the latter 2 mods listed above. -
Does your laptop have an NVIDIA Optimus feature? You can check this in the NVIDIA control panel. Also what driver are you running?
-
Also when you install mods, I strongly recommend installing http://skse.silverlock.org/beta/skse_1_07_00_installer.exe as well as SkyUI 4.1 I also strongly recommend using http://loot.github.io/ to optimize your load order. For the console commands, if you want to go that route, go here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Consoleto study them. Use them at your own risk, as reckless use of console commands can and will break your game.
