  1. Hi guys, last year, after several hundred hours of playing skyrim with more than a 100 mods including ENB, I managed to MELT my graphics card.

But you know how Skyrim is; after you stop playing for some reason for some time, you see something on nexus or youtube and you decide to give it another go. That happened to me a few weeks back and now I want to play Skyrim so bad. But for that, I need a new pc, a pc which can run Skyrim with lots of mods. I don't really understand which parts of the pc is more essential than others for that purpose so, could you help me out here?

Which graphics card brand do you prefer nvidia or amd? How much RAM do I need or do I need 4core or 8?

I don't have much money either but please don't say "you don't play Skyrim with 100 mods in a cheap rig". The maximum money I can spend is 1500$ and I need all parts of a computer, not just graphics card or any other parts.

What are your computers like, what are your advices?

  2. I must add one thing, as you seem to talk about this rather bakward. You should learn 3d not via Skyrim, but use Skyrim as an inspiration and motivation. If you only look for Skyrim-related tutorials, you get nowhere. However, if you learn to model, then how to convert to Skyrim, you are set in stone.

You do not learn via Skyrim and grow out of Skyrim, you learn to model and grow in to Skyrim.

Of course, this does not apply if it is editting already made meshes. Other than that, you should focus on the modelling before Skyrim. Start simple. Made a crate, or a sword -- that's how I started. In the end you learn to use the exporter, learn Nifskope and you are free to do whatever you want. You are not limited to Skyrim, Syrim is only the canvas you apply your already made painting -- or so to speak.

Thanks for the advice Matth, it's well appretiated :)

  3. Exactly. The creation of a mod is educational for you and you dont sell anything created with it.

As for working with it - i used to watch all episodes from nightasy here on Nexus about working with armor creation/modification. Its very beginner friendly as it is in a decent speed and not some speed modelling and rushing through things. He explains the installation of all needed tools and the setup he uses for himself regarding directories etc

I was on the downloader part of nexus all this time so i don't actually know where the tutorials are. Where can I find them?

  4.

You might consider using a different modeling tool. There is a nif-plugin for 3ds max which eliminates most if not all problem areas when importing and exporting for Skyrim. Worked like a charm for me so far as extra work in niftools is very small. You can get a free student version of 3ds max from their website.

I'd agree that 3ds max is the tool to use, however: To get the student version you need to be a student or educator. So, that might pose a problem there.

I've just graduated but I can use my younger brothers Id i guess, right?

Thanks dwiss, but will I get a trial or a full version from their site?

  6. Hi, I want to create weapons and armor for Skyrim soooo bad! But i keep getting errors in various apps used in the process such as nifskope and blender. I've searched a lot for a cure but I couldn't find it. I've followed the "creating an armour for Skyrim" guide on http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_an_armour_for_Skyrim._Part_1 and "installation of blender" guide on http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Installation_of_Blender but I couldn't get anywhere. I'm desperate, please help me

In the guide it says that i need old versions of blender, nifskope, python, PyFFI and Nif Scripts. It also says that i need win32 versions of them. I've found and downloaded python-2.6.5, blender-2.49b-windows, PyFFI-2.1.5.cb92090.win32, blender_nif_scripts-2.5.5.90a8d2f-windows and nifskope-1.0.22.8329d39-windows

When i open up Nifskope it says multitexturing not supported in a seperate window. I close that window up and try to configure Nifskope from Render/Settings, it can not auto detect game paths so I set it by manual to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\textures.

    When i try to load the femalebody_0.nif as in the guide it gives the following error;

""failed to load file header (version 14020007, 20.2.0.7)""

"failed to load nif from 'C:/Users/W7/Documents/Custom Armors/Data/Meshes/actors/character/character assets/test/femalebody_0.nif'"

I've also tried using the latest version of nifskope which is "nifskope-1.1.3.36ebfdd-windows" and following up the guide http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Creating_an_armour_for_Skyrim._Part_1. Nifskope can open the femalebody_0.nif this time but then I can't see the "NiHeader" title anywhere when editing femalebody_0.nif. But that is not the main problem because in this case, when i save the nif file and import it to blender 2.49b it gives an error and says "Python script error:check console" and it doesn't load the nif.

I'm very frustrated and I need someone to help me with the process.

By the way my pc is win7 service pack 1 64 bit with 2.20 ghz core 2 duo cpu

  7. Hi guys, it would be awesome if someone could make an armor mod like the Dragten's popular "Bandolier - Bags and Pouches" mod, where you can attach pieces of armor to your character. With Bandolier, we can change the appearance of our characters drastically, imagine what we can do with a mod like this. It would change the choices of armor in Skyrim to a much more functional form, it would change the whole feeling about Skyrim.

I know I'm not asking for an easy task here but it would be just amazing if someone could do this. I really don't know anything about the process of making a mod, I even don't know if this is possible so please write your comments in the simplest way possible
