  1. Thanks for that response! How many hits do you get in the "My Content" link? I only get five, which is pretty restrictive. But yes: at least that one stays up to date. Anyway, my search results have now been stuck on Sept. 16 since Sept.16, and I've run out of patience. Two weeks is too long. (For example, I'm currently trying to learn how to create a healer mod, so I've asked various kinds of questions in a whole bunch of different places. Not having any simple way of keeping track of my own posts makes the whole process far more difficult than it needs to be.) BTW, do your topic subscriptions work? Only a few of mine do, and none of thee newer ones.
  2. Anyone? I mean ... is not being able to find your own posts normal around here??
  3. I've been in contact with forum admins, but we don't seem to be making much progress. Maybe someone here can help me out: Since mid-September, when I run \ advanced search \ find author \ with my own username, I get hit up until the 16th of September - but no later, even though I've done a lot of posting in the meantime. Has anyone else ever had this problem - and maybe even figured out how to fix it? It's enormously irritating!
  4. I'm learning how to mod, and I've started with a mod intended to enhance role-playing with Erandur. I'm having an odd problem: At one point in Waking Nightmare quest, the game, Erandur has a sort of swirling visual effect - only, in my modded version, it doesn't disappear; he's stuck with it. I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong?
  5. I must be really obtuse, but I just can't find something I've used in every internet forum I've used over last (literally) 15 years: When I add a post in a thread and somebody replies to my post, I'd really like to get an email saying something along the lines of either (a) "REALLYSMARTGUY34 has added a reply to your post." or else (b) "REALLYSMARTGUY34 has quoted a post you wrote." Best case scenario, REALLYSMARTGUY34's post would even be in the email - though I wouldn't mind having to click a link to read ti on site. However, as far as I can tell, while I CAN get notifications along the lines of (b) OR of replies to an entire thread, there's no way of getting notification of replies to individual posts that do not contain a quotation. For that matter, I only get (b) if I'm not subscribed to the thread anyway. The problem is this: In the threads connected to some of the big mods I follow, the entire thread is waaay too active to follow the entire thing - but if I only see quotations, I end up missing stuff. This problem has some consequences for the NEXUS forum culture: When you ask a question in a busy thread, it is easy to overlook an intelligent reply to the post you've written. So, eventually, you ask the same question again or make some comment that shows that you clearly haven't read the intelligent reply, leading to charges of poor netiquette.
  6. Indulging in a bit of thread necromancy here. This has been really bugging me recently. When I answer posts in forum mode and leave a single empty line between paragraphs, it turns into two lines when viewed in "POSTS" mode. Very annoying - I'm always afraid that someone is going to get PO'd at me EITHER for writing such weirdly spaced-out posts OR for not bothering to put a space between paragraphs. In this post, for instance, I'm doing it both ways. Paragraphs 1 and 2 have no empty line (and hence look jammed together in FORUM mode); paragraphs 2 & 3 & 4 have empty lines in between them (and hance get "double space" in POSTS more). Could it be that this be a Chrome specific problem?
  7. Yeah, I have actually - but the post number (which is a simple thread count number) bears no relationship (that I can see!) to the "#7812xxx" number - no idea what that number is. The whole scenario seems a bit bizarre, to be honest.
  8. I'm struggling here. When you want to find out what any given post is responding to, Nexus Forums has a nice, helpful feature - for example: In response to post #7812xxx. #7812xxx, #7813xxx But most of the time, what I need is exactly the opposite. That is, I've asked a question. I surf to my question, read it again, grimace at the spelling mistake and then try to find out (a) whether someone has responded and if so, (b) what they said. What would really be nice would be something like this: Response to this post in #7812xxx. BTW, if you read through the thread in "comments mode" posts are actually bundled together, which is nice. It allows exactly that. Unfortunately, to search for some specific post you have to switch to "forum mode," which doesn't. Or am I missing something?
  9. Thanks for that post - I really appreciate it! OTOH, I don't think I want to start futzing with my registry. My own profile's "My Documents" folder is now on the new SSD and is recognized as such by most software - but I don't even have enough space on the second SSD to transfer the entire "Users" folder (with 3 other profiles). In the past I've tried following complex registry tutorials to move default user folders to alternative drives (including a NAS - which was an awful idea). Up till now, this lead directly to a lot of bad language and a brand new installation of windows! (This is one area I wish Windows 8 had paid attention to. People with SSDs need better option about this kind of stuff.) In any case, I have a feeling that this particular case is some Steam and/or Skyrim registry key, not a general Windows entry. Anyway ... for now I've simply added a shortcut to my Windows 7 favorites to the c:\documents location for Skyrim logs, and I think I'll call it a day. If I get really ambitious I can probably fix it with a mklink command - but right now I'm even too lazy to ask Google how to do it ...
  10. Couple remarks: - All things being equal, Windows 8 might actually be the better bet. You probably want a long-term solution, and W8 will be supported longer than W7 will be. I've run Skyrim just fine on my wife's (under-powered) W8 laptop - with all kinds of mods. No problem at all. Maybe some minuscule FPS drop, but you might eventually get some slight performance benefits due to newer drivers. I think it boots a little faster, too. That said, I don't particularly like it. It came pre-installed on my wife's laptop, but I won't upgrade any of the 5 other PCs in my family. I'm not aware of anything that will currently translate into better real-world gaming performance, and it confuses the heck out of me. I've been running MS PCs since DOS 3.1, and W8 seems (to me at least) to stand more in the tradition of ME/Vista than 95/2000/XP. - On GPUs: If you can fit a GTX Titan into your budget, by all means! That thing has 6gb VRAM (twice what a Radeon 7970 has), and VRAM is a central issue in Skyrim graphics modding. As far as I know, running two GPUs in SLI/crossfire does NOT double your VRAM, so the Titan is really the only way there is to get that kind of headroom. - One thing, though: What kind of screen do you already have? Blowing that much crunching power into a 1920 x 1080 screen would be a crying shame! Your pleasure/price ratio would be a LOT better by sticking to a reasonable CPU (= i5) and an ... umm ... budget (?) GPU like the Radeon 7970 - and upgrading your screen to at least 2560 x 1440. I have a Dell u2711 screen, and going back to plain HD on my kids PCs is painful! Don't use an F1 engine to power a lawn mower ...
  11. Hmm. I think you're going to need more than a $600 machine to run Skyrim with a whole lot of graphics mods. Unmodded Skyrim isn't massively demanding in terms of graphics crunching power, but once you start loading up the textures and meshes and ratcheting up the settings, things can slow down plenty. For 3000K you can put together a VERY nice system however. Rather than read what I think, check out the following buying guide (updated every month!) The first link is their current "enthusiast" build, the second is their money-is-no-issue build. For 3000K you could do something in between. (It kind of depends on whether you need to buy the OS or an appropriately high end monitor, sound system, etc.): http://www.techspot.com/guides/buying/page4.html and http://www.techspot.com/guides/229-desktop-buying-guide/page5.html Two things that will be worth keeping in mind: - On the hardware level, one change I'd recommend is a GPU (graphics card) not only with lots of processing oomph but with plenty of "VRAM". VRAM is the GPU's very own on board memory - and when you start adding fancy mods, the more the better. Techspot's guide recommends a GTX 680 for their high-end build. While it is a bit faster than its direct AMD rival, the Radeon 7970, it has less VRAM. So I'd tend toward a Radeon 7970 for a killer Skyrim build. (BTW, I wouldn't particular recommend a two-GPU setup for Skyrim. Two GPUs don't double your VRAM, and getting them to work in tandem can be a real headache - though I believe it can be done for Skyrim. Notice that the Techspot buyer's guide doesn't even bring up the option, even for their luxury build.) - Caveat emptor: Even if you build the world's ultimate Skyrim cruncher, you still need to keep an eye on what your mods are doing. Keeping all your Skyrim mods happy is tricky business, and requires time and effort and patience. If you have scripts creating errors and savegame bloat, you can't just expect a cranked-out PC to bulldoze through - you still need to find the problem and fix it. Likewise, you'll still want to spend time optimizing your textures and choosing which effects you really want and which you can live without.
  12. I just moved my Windows 7 "my documents" folder from my root drive (a fullish SDD) to a second SDD. I transferred everything to the new drive, changed a few file location assignments, removed the old directory from Windows 7 libraries and erased the contents. Office 2010 is working fun. However, Skyrim has re-created the old directory on my root drive and continues to save its log files there instead of routing them to the new folder - i.e. "c:\documents" instead "m:\documents." I'm a little flummoxed since I don't see any way of changing default file locations - I've checked Skyrim, all the .ini files I could find AND Steam, all to no avail. BTW, the same holds for SKSE logs and HiAlgo logs. (Which I wasn't even really aware of, but there they are!) Since my Windows 7 default documents location has changed, it must be hard wired somewhere ... Any way of changing this? I can't for the life of me find anyplace telling skyrim where to put the stuff - could it be a registry entry?
  13. Hi guys! Thanks so much for your input. As a matter of fact, I do have the Build Your Own House mod downloaded, but I'm (almost) completely sure it was never activated in Mod Organizer in my daughter's game. (My son had it in one of his games.) It's a pity about my daughter's game. I had tried to put together a fairly simply mod setup for her, but something must have got messed up very early on. She kept on getting bloating, which she'd notice because the More Hotkeys Please mod would slow to a crawl. I'd go back a few saves and think I had everything good, then the bloating would start all over again ... (BTW, I've noticed that the More Hotykeys Please mod has an excellent "mine canary" effect. It seems to be very sensitive to the circumstances that cause bloating. If it stops responding, it's time to stop and check the logs immediately.) Anyway, she was only level 7. I re-built her character in Helgen (even got her High Elf a little prettier this time round!), took the character through the tutorial, then added in a set of up-to-date mods. The logs are staying reasonably small and save size is fine, so we'll call it a day.
  14. My daughter's game is getting massive save game bloating, and I'm trying to find out what's wrong. When I turn on logging I get gigantic files pretty much stuffed with various references to BYOHHouseTrophyBaseScript. After trying all the fix tricks I know (like going off the grid and waiting a month, etc.) I'm pretty resigned to re-starting her character for her. But I'd still like to what the heck was going on there! I don't think this is referring to a mod; my guess is that it's something in one of the DLCs, most likely Hearthfire. (I have unofficial patches for Skyrim itself and both DLCs, btw.)
  15. I'm curious - Has anyone else had this specific problem? It just cropped up on my system, and I have no idea why! Mouse reaction times are fine otherwise. That is, mouse movement is perfectly crisp in all opening screens and in all dialogues. As soon as I open a menu, however, I get lag. Performance is also fine otherwise.
  16. I'm playing a pure mage character, now close to level 50. I'm rolling with Cerwiden as a healer (I'd like her to tone down her attack magic actually), Mjoll as a two handed battle tank and Vilja as a one-handed fighter, general sidekick and potential love interest. It makes for a very pleasant jaunt through Skyrim. With all my gear on I have about 500 magica, 250 health and 100 stamina (=just enough to run away from a Drauger Death Lord if I get into trouble). Expert level. I've avoided any magic mods so far - I like the schools pretty well as they are; however, there's one thing that's bugging me: I'm tired of clicking through my various preparation buffs and spells when I'm expecting a fight. When I get ready for a complete boss fight scenario (in particular when my followers have wandered off somewhere ... ), this involves the following steps: 1) Drink 1a) ... a Fortify Health potion (vanilla, but my own mix - it buffs destruction magic) 1b) ... and a Fortify Magicka Potion 1c) ... and a Recover Magicka Potion 2) apply muffle (two-handed), 3) equip sanguine rose and conjure dremora lord 4) apply dragonhide (two-handed), 5) wait about 5 seconds for magic to regenerate, 6) apply invisibility (two handed), 7) equip following: 7a) paralyze (left hand) 7b) thunderbolt (right hand) I'm just thinking: Wouldn't it be possible to have a script that would let me assign the whole rigmarole to a single hot key? I can do the whole thing manually; and in game time it doesn't even take long - but it costs a lot of my own, real-life time! Best case scenario, it would include drinking my own home-made potions and the waiting involved in step (5). But I would even be happy to do my own drinking and have two different hot-keys for steps 2-4 and steps 5-7. IS there anything out there that would allow something like this?
