  1. Well now that I've gotten a feel for the game, I have another question for you DS veterans. I just reached Darkroot Garden and came to the sealed door next to the bonfire. I'm assuming you need to get the Crest of Artorias to unlock it, but is this item worth the 20k soul price tag, and if so what's behind the sealed door? Is it worth it to just to continue down into Darkroot Basin and ignore whatever is behind there? EDIT: I decided to spend the 20k souls and got the crest. I stumbled upon an excellent farming tactic right passed the sealed door that nets like 4-6k in souls with the ghost like enemies there. Hooray for farming!
  2. This is probably a stupid question but if you die with no souls and you had previously died with a large number of souls collected are you able to retrieve the ones from a previous death? I would assume not but worth asking considering I haven't been able to find out yet.
  3. I played Darksiders II a few months ago and really enjoyed it. A little on the short side but it has some amazing music, a great atmosphere and world to explore and the RPG elements of upgrading weapons and armor is pretty satisfying. I'd recommend picking it up if it's on sale.
  4. You were going the wrong way to start out. About all you can do in those areas early on is run like hell and snag whatever loot you can find. If you have the master key you can unlock a door in the non-haunted part to get a shortcut to Blighttown and Wyvern valley. For killing the ghosts, you either need to be cursed (half health), use a transient curse item (which lasts about 5 minutes), or use a cursed weapon (the ghosts drop daggers on rare occasion (There is one other weapon obtainable in late game, but I forget which)). You need to be cursed, or under the effect of a transient curse in order to block or parry ghost attacks. You cannot do much down there before you have the lord vessel and you have the ring to survive the abyss, so there's no point in wasting transient curses. You'll probably find the undead burg/parish to be much easier after having tried to survive those areas atleast. So from Firelink where should I go? I can either go through the graveyard, or go down to New Londo Ruins but is there another pathway to take? I know you can fall off the edge but is that where I should be going from Firelink?
  5. Well I finally started playing and holy hell people aren't kidding about this game's difficulty. I tried going through the graveyard part in Firelink Shrine but after dying a couple times I decided to venture down into the New Londo Ruins instead. Is there some kind of cursed item I need to find that allows me to attack the ghosts down there?
  6. Arma 2 Combined Ops Full installation took nearly half a day, I remember all the files being somewhere around 31gb
  7. I'll have to look up that build before I dive in, it sounds like an easy and beginner friendly build. Is it viable at end game or is there like a way to re-spec into a more combat based build? I'm really getting antsy not being able to play Dark Souls after buying it a few days ago, I've been stuck at home for winter break but hopefully I am heading back today so I can actually play all the games I bought recently.
  8. I just picked up Dark Souls the other day but haven't played it yet. I've heard the stories of the game's difficulty but is it genuine challenge or is it the difficulty a result of trial and error gameplay and a general lack of straightforward information about where to go/what to do next? I've seen countless people playthrough Dark Souls but I am wondering once you know what to do in a given area does the game become any easier? Also as a Dark Souls noob, what is a good build to start off with? I know going mage or thief is suicide your first time through.
  9. If you're looking for a good multiplayer game that's on sale right now check out Natural Selection 2. It's 9.99 now and definitely worth picking up. i am not looking for a multiplayer game. i rarely play any game online. though i do remember playing the original Natural Selection a good amount of years ago. along with Counter Strike and Half Life online. Not sure if it's still on sale but they had both KOTOR games on sale as a bundle for like 7.49 I believe. If you haven't played them I would highly recommend them, amazing games with an epic world to explore, plus the story is great too. I think the sale might have ended for it though.

  11. Just picked KOTOR II for 2.49. Pretty good considering it's been years since I've played the original KOTOR and I never got a chance to pick up the second one. All in all I would agree that this sale is pretty dismal. Both the Train and Farming sim games have been flash deals in recent days. I can't expect there is a huge audience for those type of games but I could be wrong. I was expecting more games to go on sale, and bigger titles to have better deals, but so far I've been pretty disappointed. Maybe they're saving the good deals for tomorrow or after Christmas.
  12. Checked this morning to see what deals were being offered, saw the Mass Effect "franchise" on sale for 9.99. I've only played the first one so I figured I check it out considering I absolutely loved the first game. The "franchise" bundle only includes the first and second game. Do they not know there was a third game in the series, or are they too embarrassed to include that one with the bundle. I don't even think the third game is even available on Steam. Don't call the bundle "Mass Effect franchise" and only include 2/3 of the games that are a part of it.
  13. It just looks old. It's trying to bring back some of the feeling of early 1st person RPG games, like Ravenloft, Ultima:Underworld, and the like, but brings with it modern advancements like 3d graphics and quicker action and puzzle solving. It also comes with modding tools and I believe a map editor, which would allow you to make your own areas to share and explore. Regarding the other games, Binding of Issac is probably the one with the most promise. It's not a side scroller and is the sort of game which is based on lots and lots or replaying in order to unlock everything and get levels which don't screw you over right away. I've heard good things about the Binding of Isaac. A friend of mine picked up this bundle the other day, and has really been enjoying the Binding of Isaac. It's pretty short but it's apparently similar to a roguelike and requires multiple playthroughs to unlock all the items. Might just pick this one up on the steam winter sale, none of the other games in the bundle look interesting or good aside from Grimrock, and I already picked that one up on GOG months ago.
  14. I would say even at 30 Dishonored is overpriced. I haven't played the game, only watched an LP of it but it definitely did not seem the content would warrant the price even at 30. It's extremely short and the difficulty is practically a joke. The story and world the game takes place in are extremely interesting and the gameplay itself looked really fun but it did seem pretty short. I would wait for this one to come down in price even further before buying it. If you're craving stealth try one of the Thief games, those are excellent.
  15. Absolutely Silent Hill 2. Akira Yamaoka is a genius in creating intense and horrifying music that suits the SH series perfectly. While the first SH has my favorite soundtrack, the first four installments of the series have some of the greatest and scariest video game music ever. Apart from SH2, other great games with incredible soundtracks include Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, Secret of Mana and the original Mass Effect. I remember years ago when Mass Effect first came out I was so obsessed with the game and the soundtrack a friend bought the entire OST collection from the game for my birthday.
  16. As much as people complained about how ugly the faces were in Oblivion, they are excellent when compared to Skyrim. Every face in Skyrim felt like it was "dirty" with too many dark spots, leaving them feeling unpolished and rigid. I know there are plenty of facial overhauls that make the faces more detailed but it should have been that way with initial release.
  17. What have you purchased so far in the Steam Winter Sale? What are you waiting for to go on sale for the flash deals? What's on that wishlist? Recommend some games to others for the holiday season. Only picked up Mount & Blade: Warband for 9.99, I don't know why but I can't explain why I love this game. I'm still really bad at the multiplayer but nothing beats a server of 100+ people trying to storm and breach a castle. I'm waiting for Dark Souls to go lower than it is now, been wanting to play this one for a while. Any other good single player RPGs or some lengthier action/adventures available on Steam? I've been out of the loop for games the past couple of months.
  18. Recently purchased M&B:W in the steam winter sale and I am wondering if there are any graphical overhaul mods out there. I know the Floris mod pack has something like that included in it, but there's also a lot of other mods in that pack I don't want and am just looking for something specific to a graphical update. Any suggestions on where to look/particular mods that enhance the graphics?
  19. I can see why people are calling this installment "linear". Think I'll have to give Blood Money a try first before jumping into this one. a lot of comments and reviews I've seen on Absolution compare it to Blood Money, the majority of which are upset by Absolution's more linear style of gameplay when compared to other Hitman games.
  20. So I finally got around to getting all the DLC expansions for Fallout 3. My question then is what order to go about playing them in. All of them look insanely good, especially Point Lookout and Broken Steel, but is there an order one should go about playing them in? I'm currently doing a quick replay of FO3 to get up to snuff on skills, gear, and the like so I won't get obliterated when I start the DLC, but what do you think is the best of the expansions and the order to play them in, if any.

    Planetside 2

Still waiting for it to install, but I've been watching some basic tutorials on the gameplay and while on the surface it seems slightly confusing, after watching a couple videos it's pretty straightforward. If only it would finish installing so I could jump right in and finally play it.

    Zeno Clash

Screens look amazing, for some weird reason it reminds of Planescape Torment, I'm definitely going to be picking this one up on Steam. Can't beat that price at only a dollar, no matter what game it is.

I think I'm going to have check this one out then from what everyone has been saying. Just to clarify, are there certain classes with like the platoon commander or a general that engages this Risk/Eve type of territory control and management? I guess I'm not too sure how that fits into the game, my presumption was that it was just a large scale shooter. I definitely need to install this one ASAP and check it out for myself.
  24. Wow thanks for sharing this. I was literally getting ready to pick this one up tomorrow on Steam but not anymore. Sad to see Square Enix fail on optimizing the technical aspect of the PC version, I hope they release some kind of patch or something that fixes these crashes and slowdowns. I was reading on some other message boards and a lot of people have been noticing the crashes to desktop and drastic fps slowdown and drops.

Has anybody played this one yet? It's F2P and looks like it could be pretty good fun with the massive BF style combat. Only thing that has me worried is I know you can pay to purchase upgrades and whatnot, I just hope it isn't like Tribes Ascend where you could basically pay to win. I've heard it's not as good as the original, but having never played it I figured I might as well give this one a shot.
