  1. Hi LadyHonor, thanks for responding. I got this message after I closed the Toolset, something about the graphics engine not working/responding, the DLL and needing to go to the now-defunct BSN to try to fix it. Unfortunately, my cat jumped on my keyboard & I lost the message before I could read everything. I'm not sure if it will appear again, so I'm not sure what it means. BTW, I saw a YouTube video of your expanded Highever Human Noble origin project. How's that going? Good luck if you're still working on it! Best regards, FIREFLY11
  2. SUCCESS!!!! I actually got a mod I made into the game! I accidentally ended up duplicating Andruil's Blessing, but it has the stats I created & the comments I made, so I can live w/ it! 1000 thanks Sky! (Proceeds to run thru neighborhood in celebration) Also got a message on my desktop that the graphics engine for the Toolset can't load/access & that I will need to fix this. ???
  3. Hi everyone! I'm having a problem that I am unsure as to whether it is something with my Toolset or my in-game console. I followed all the steps in the Toolset item creation tutorial, but when I came to step 2 under Last Steps, I did not see my item's uti file in my toolsetexport folder. The nss & ncs ones were there, I checked the log & it said everything exported successfully w/o any errors. I followed the rest of the steps anyway, & the mod showed up as enabled under Installed Content in the game. I then loaded a save & tried to bring the item into the game by entering the runscriptaa_get_item command (I have the mod that allows you to see what you're typing), but it said "Error, unable to process command", or something to that effect. I even tried a command from Gamespot.com to see if the console would respond to that (used runscriptzz_supercritplayer), but got the same error message. Any ideas as to what could be wrong? I really want my mods to work. Many thanks in advance! FIREFLY11 UPDATE: I tried a code from YouTube (runscript zz_addapproval 1 10) for 10 approval points for Alistair & it worked, so I guess the console isn't broken, but when I tried putting in add_mothers_amulet from the mod to make Alistair's Mother's amulet wearable, I got a "Failure, no such command exists" message. ????
  4. Thanks Sky! I'd have responded sooner, but I just got through an earthquake (I'm fine)! Be grateful if you're in a place where you don't have to worry about them! Thinking about it, the directions in Toolset tutorial call for enabling the console command & this article doesn't & as you said, it is an old one. I don't have any experience w/scripting & was following the directions in the article. The article also called for checking things in & out of the system library, something the Toolset tutorial didn't mention, but I don't know if that matters. I'll check out the weriKK's link & see hat happens with that. There may have been some errors in the script compile when I did it originally, but I'd have to go back & look; hitting F7 next time seems like a better bet. I created a custom sword last night & had the same result--shows up as enabled under "Installed Content" & in the list in the mod manager with the little check box next to it, although I don't see it shield icon in the area where you drag DAzips into. I'll also try the force-spawn suggestion. Countless thanks for all your help; again they should be paying you for this! I'll let you know how things go. All the best, FIREFLY11 UPDATE: OK, I had a chance to look @ the weriKK's article & I can see that I unwittingly made LOTS of omissions when I entered the script lines; this article is clearer about what needs to be done, so when I have an hour or two to myself, I'll try again. Thanks again Sky!
  5. Well, I finally did it! I used the Toolset & to create an insanely overpowered ring for rogues in a mod, but I'm having an issue. The mod shows up as enabled in my DLC section of my game menu & as a DAzip in my mod manager, but the item I created is not showing up in my character's inventory. I made this mod following the steps from John Vanderbeck's Nov. 2009 article on item creation. I tried to put the mod in the root folder when I got to Create New Resouce, but it ended up under Sacred Ashes even though I clicked \. JV said this only has to do w/ organization, but I'm not sure if this affected it or not. Thanks in advance for any help! If I can get this resolved & off the ground, I'll see about sharing it w/ the community assuming there are no bugs or other issues. Best always, FIREFLY11
  6. Hey Sky! Yeah, I'm glad it worked too. I read in your file where it said it might work & might not, but decided to give it a try anyway. Great idea with Orianna's wedding ring BTW. Too bad you're not modding right now. It would be great if the HNF warden could take the ring from Orianna at the beginning of the game & give it to Fergus @ the post-coronation ceremony as a plot item a la Irminric's Ring w/ Alfstanna. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a sudden urge to load a save where my HNF warden is about to kill Howe... Have a great one! FIREFLY11
  7. Hi Sky! Thanks for the info; I wouldn't want to risk my saves unnecessarily. And don't worry about it--you're always crazy-helpful! I think I discovered a minor bug in ARR & think I should tell Kajana about it anyway, so I'll ask about the whole thing w/ Fergus when I contact her. BTW, I used your A Ring from Alistair mod & it worked (thanks for creating that--makes things feel more realistic). The ring didn't appear right after the Landsmeet, but after Alistair proposed to my warden back at the camp (they'd become engaged prior to the Landsmeet; ARR lets you do that) on the next load. It's not so much the proposal @ the post-coronation that I'm interested in since it happens earlier, just hoping for a chance to have Fergus ask about his sister's upcoming marriage & hopefully introduce him to Alistair for immersion's sake. Have a great 4th! Best always, FIREFLY11
  8. Ok, I think that makes sense. I looked in the ARR ReadMe, & it says that there is a mod also by Kajana called "Alistair's Proposal" that is not compatible w/ ARR, so that may explain things. I checked out the proposal mod & it includes an option to introduce Fergus to Alistair, so that might be what's doing it. Do you think disabling the ARR mod & then loading a post-coronation save & seeing if the wedding dialogue comes up would be a good idea, or could that damage the game? Thanks again! FIREFLY11
  9. Hey Sky many thanks for the info! Luckily I had a post-coronation save handy. I tried the conversation branch you showed me (as well as every other possible one; don't ask how many times I reloaded), but I never did get the "At the wedding, for certain." option. Maybe it is bugged? For the record, I do have the Royal Wedding mod installed, plus ARR and tons more mods. I even went back & fought the Archdemon again b/c I thought that maybe the boon I selected the first time (continuing to serve the crown) might have affected the dialogue outcome w/ Fergus. This time I asked Alistair to make the Howes pay for their crimes, tried all the different branches as before, but still never got the wedding line. Also Fergus' line in the file you showed me "Howe has lost everything. That bastard. Vengeance is bitter, but I think about Oren...it barely seems like its enough." never appeared under any circumstances either. He only says his "At least Amaranthine now belongs to the Grey Wardens..." line. Any thoughts? Thanks & best, FIREFLY11
  10. Hey Sky, thanks for the input. You're right about the lines that no sane person would interpret as romance starters. Maybe it was the developers doing it as a prank. Or maybe Leliana spent too much time in the cloister. Guess we may never know. I'll try that fix you mentioned & see what happens; I'm very curious to see what her response will be if the ninjamancing can be eliminated. BTW, & this is for anyone out there, did it ever seem odd that most of your companions comment about the warden's relationship w/ Alistair during the campaign, but once they get engaged nobody mentions it aside from Leliana's ninjamancing? Even after the coronation. And when the warden talks to her brother Fergus he doesn't even mention that his sister is getting married, let alone becoming QUEEN OF FERELDEN! Never mind that his future brother-in-law just announced it & is standing right there. You'd think there would be a way for the warden to introduce them. Also w/ Eamon. Being the traditionalist he is, you would think he'd be thrilled that Alistair had found such a perfect match, yet not so much as a "congratulations". If I can get my modding skills up & running I'll see about fixing this. Best always, FIREFLY11
  11. Hi all, this is really more of a tech subject, but it contains spoilers, so I decided to post it here to avoid giving anyone any unwanted plot surprises. I've reached the point in Origins where my HNF is now engaged to Alistair. Back at camp, I got the "I heard about you & Alistair..." conversation from a heartbroken Leliana even though my character never romanced her. And yes, I was very careful to keep all of my warden's interactions with her strictly platonic. I've had this happen on my PS3 & Xbox versions of the game and remember reading some years ago that this was a glitch specific to the consoles, so I was surprised when this occurred with my PC game. So I'm wondering, is this an actual glitch that happens regardless of the platform the game is played on, or is Leliana supposed to develop an unrequited love for HNF warden who marries Alistair as part of the game? This is unrelated, but I forgot to ask, is it better to download DAO Ultimate from EA directly or get the code off Amazon? Anybody out there reading this, DON'T buy the physical disc! You'll have more crashing & glitches than you can shake a severed darkspawn limb at! Thanks & Happy July 4th (& belated Canada Day) to everyone! FIREFLY11
  12. Hi Sky! Thanks for the info. I didn't realize all three characters used the same file--I assumed the Warden would be separate, so thanks for clearing that up. Since that's the case I'll go along with your recommendation for the clickable object trigger. If I manage to pull this off & it works well enough, I probably would want to share it with the community. My guess is I'm not the only one who would enjoy seeing something unpleasant happen to Goldanna. If you go back into her house in the vanilla version of the game, she's on her hands and knees scrubbing the floor, so I the aftermath is already written! I'm nearly through with my first playthrough, so depending on how my schedule is, I'll begin learning to use the Toolset next week. After I get the game on download, of course. Lots more weird things have been happening, among them NPC characters' clothing color & texture changing over and over again during conversations & enemies turning rainbow colors. Thanks again! FIREFLY11
  13. Hey guys! Nice to see I'm not the only one who went mod-crazy. I spent a couple of months watching the mods on YouTube eagerly awaiting the day when I got a gaming PC, so I couldn't help myself! I'm having an insane amount of fun with the mods--I can't believe how much greater depth & realism they bring to an already epic game. Talk about truly experiencing the Hero's Journey! I guess the Dog-revenge idea is more complex than it sounds. The way I would have it go, I don't think it would be incompatible since it wouldn't alter any of Alistair's dialogue. But you know more about this than I do. Here's how the scene would go: The Goldanna encounter would play out as normal. After the Warden gives their last line (i.e., "Let's leave. Now.") & Alistair gives his response, instead of cutting to back outside for the conversation w/ Alistair, a dialogue option would pop up for the Warden for the player to click on. I was thinking something like "You're not getting any money, but here's a little parting gift!" at which the Warden would nod to the Dog. Cut to a shot of the Dog wandering over to Goldanna (who would be shown from the waist down), & lifting his leg. There's a point earlier in the conversation w/ Goldanna where she makes an angry sound like "ooohh", which could be used when the Dog does his dirty work, then follow that with her saying "get out". That could be cut from her earlier line where she says "Get out of my house, the both of you!" Then the conversation with Alistair outside would play as normal. I always wanted some form of revenge on Goldanna. Having the Warden get violent with her seemed going too far. This seems appropriate & could bring a little comic relief to a mostly-serious game. Hmmm. Now that I think about this, it IS complicated! I guess if one seeks to fly, they should learn to walk first. Can't remember who said that, but it seems applicable here. Maybe a good starter mod would be making an item or weapon. Anyway, I'll spend as much time learning as I have to in order to master the Toolset. Giving my Warden & Alistair a proper ride off into the sunset as king & queen is definitely on my bucket list. That and making sure Anora gets executed or killed at the Landsmeet. As always thanks so much for the advice and info! All the best, FIREFLY11
  14. Hey Thandal! No, not yet. I've got around 40+ mods installed (I know, I went insane) & I'm having too much fun with the game to try removing them right now. This is my first playthrough & I'm now about 60% into the campaign. Once I complete the game I plan on following your advice & getting the game on download. The crashing issue is improving, but other weird things are happening, so I'll remove the mods then & hopefully solve the issue. I forgot to mention this in my initial post, but I installed nearly all the mods for the game before I even began playing it. Not sure if that makes a difference. I don't do much with Shale in general, so I don't mind dealing with not being able to understand her for now. BTW, I'm pretty sure the language is Russian. Or some Slavic language. Don't ask how I confused that with French--I'm an idiot! : P As always, thanks for the input! Once I finish the game & fix this issue, I'm moving on to the Toolset, so I'll probably end up back for more tech support. My goal for my first mod is to make one where the Warden tells the Dog to relieve himself in Goldanna's house (or maybe on Goldanna herself!) at the end of the conversation when Goldanna tells the Warden & Alistair to get out. I know you said start small, so does that seem too ambitious for a first attempt? Best always, FIREFLY11
  15. Actually, after listening more carefully, I now think it's Russian. I had to install Stone Prisoner & the other DLCs for the Ultimate Edition by downloading the patch for them directly from the EA web site because I bought the physical disc. I didn't know at the time you had to buy the downloadable version of the game in order to have the DLCs working from the beginning. Once I finish my first play through I'm getting the download--the physical disc just has too many issues, ones that the good folks who lend their help here with tech support have been infinitely patient & helpful with addressing (many thanks to TSM & Thandal!). On playing further, I've found that in the character selection screen when Shale is added/removed from the party, is given a gift, and in Tinimaus' Eavesdropping mod (highly recommend BTW), she speaks in English, so I'm not sure if this is some bug or if the English talkable would help. At any rate, Shale doesn't really figure into my party make up that much, so I would be willing to tolerate not understanding her until I get the download. Thank you very much for the input! Best regards, FIREFLY11
  16. I know, this is becoming my home away from home! : P At least the game crashing issues seem to have resolved! Anyway, something odd has happened. When I went to Honnleath, all of the NPCs spoke French (or at least what sounds like French), including my companions during the cutscene where you first try to activate Shale and the one where Shale is freed. I left the village before freeing Shale & talked to other NPCs elsewhere and it was back to English. I recruited Shale & assumed that once I left Honnleath she would speak English, but she still only speaks French. I checked to see if I could adjust the language in the game's options section, but no such option exists. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks, & best regards, FIREFLY11
  17. Thanks, Thandal, good to know. Yes, I keep them separate & no prob for me installing the zips. If I can learn to install mods, there's hope for anyone ; ). If the crashing doesn't get any better, I'll go the download route. It's just that I'm about 40% of the way through the campaign & I want to make it through at least one playthrough! After playing DAO UE on PS3 & Xbox, I can already say that A LOT of vanilla things were cut from the console versions. As for the mods, I'm stunned at what I missed out on all these years! The modding community should get an annual parade to say the least! Once I enjoy some playthroughs, then I'm going to learn to use the Toolset. Thanks for the info & best to everyone! FIREFLY11
  18. Yeah, that's the armor mod. I installed the GDA file you suggested & that resolved the issue with the armor sets except the ones that I picked up in Ostagar. The ones that appeared in the camp seem to be fine. I'll still check the conflicts guide you suggested as well. I've still been having Denerim crashes, mostly involving the Slim quests but also the Trial of the Crows. I managed to get around this by completing the quests one at a time, returning to camp, saving & then completing the next one. I won't save in Denerim b/c I have some saves where I did that & when I try to load them the game crashes. In order to return to camp for the save, I cannot go to the world map via the menu; I have to go to an exit, have the map pull up, & then click on the wide world & hope for the best. I did have some crashing issues in Lothering, but nothing like this. It's a nuisance to say the least. Like you said, the weird thing is that I have no problem with accessing Denerim, but rather leaving the market (i.e., Wonders of Thedas, sometimes the tavern). As far as mods go, I must admit I went crazy once I learned how to install them--I've easily got around 35+. I don't have Improved Atmosphere, though since I heard that can be problematic. I have a lot of the major ones like Rescue @ Ishal, ARR, the Royal Wedding, the ones by Tinamaus & Sarah Cousland, some of yours (the ring & Alistair's Rose for instance--endorsements coming up after I finish this!) plus most of the new locations like Inverness, Ceridan's Refuge, & others. Also I've noticed the textures of the clothing of the Denerim NPCs going haywire off & on. This happened in Lothering too with the textures. I'll also look into the 4GB patch as well. I'm beginning to think Thandal was right about getting the game as a download instead of using the physical disc. If I did that, would I lose all my mods I've downloaded & the mod manager & have to re-install? Again, many thanks for all the help! Best always, FIREFLY11
  19. Hi again, this is becoming a habit, I know (My thanks to Sky in advance!). Two tech issues this time. 1) I have the Theodosian warden armor, but when I equip the gauntlets, it causes the character's arms to become invisible from the elbows down. Also if the boots are equipped in some cases there will be an invisible gap in the knees. 2) After I accept the Slim Couldry quests, complete the first one & accept the 2nd, my game crashes & returns me to my desktop browser when I try to enter the Wonders of Thedas. I tried entering the shop before accepting the Slim quests & the area loaded. When I tried going in again after accepting & completing the first of the Slim quests, again things crashed back to the desktop. I had been skipping through lots of conversations before the crashes; I've heard somewhere that if you skip with the ESC button too much it can cause the game to shut down, but I don't know if this is true. I want to complete the Slim quests but don't know if this is a game breaker. Thanks for any help & best regards (until the next mishap! : P, FIREFLY11 UPDATE: Alright gang, I think I've solved this. I loaded a game prior to Denerim, & immediately accepted Slim's quests w/o talking to anyone, skipping thru the conversations or accepting any other side quests (before I had accepted others). I was able to complete the first stealing quest & the Wonders of Thedas quest (Ser Nancine) that previously caused things to crash. Havn't tried the other Slim quests yet, but we'll see what happens. Also may have found a bug with ARR--When my warden & Alistair went for their private dinner @ the tavern, the options were for them to change out of their armor into different clothes or eat in their armor. I chose the change clothes option, but they were wearing their armor anyway.
  20. Thanks once again for saving the day Sky! I made the tweaks you suggested & everything is fine now--the characters no longer look possessed & it also fixed the background to not look so grainy. My monitor is an high resolution HD one, so that was why the standard game setting did this. If you aren't getting a salary for all the help you give to everyone on this site, you should! : ) I would have written back sooner, but I had a bit of a dental emergency (luckily it turned out well). Public service announcement to everyone reading this: Get regular x-rays when you go for a check up! Best regards, FIREFLY11 Best,
  21. I just started my first playthrough campaign for DAO UE but have encountered something odd. In the character creator when it comes to the eye color selection, it only shows the character's eyes as solid black, no matter where I move the arrow. Furthermore, all of the eyes of the NPCs are solid black as well. I know this may seem minor, but it kind of spoils things by making everyone's eyes seem dead & shark-like. I tried installing the Pineapple mod for eye color to see if that would make a difference, but nothing. When I view DAO mods on Nexus, it shows the characters with their proper eye color. Likewise if I watch a mod video on YouTube. I have Windows 10 & not Steam & my game is a physical disc & not the download; not sure if that makes a difference. Any suggestions on how to make the characters look like themselves would be greatly appreciated. Best, FIREFLY11
  22. Update: Thanks so much guys! I installed the patch & everything is now enabled. I've learned my lesson. The next time I want to buy a game for my PC, I'll DEFINITELY do a download! If I ever get to the point where I can create mods myself I'll dedicate my first one to you guys. : )
  23. Yeah, my copy is a physical one, so it sounds like I'll have to patch it manually. I'll try that link & see what happens. Thanks so much, Sky! I've been spending so much time learning to add mods (WIP, but I'm getting there thanks to YouTube tutorials) that I didn't notice this until late last night & by then the brain was fried. Again, I really appreciate the help & I'll let everyone know how it turns out. Best, FIREFLY11
  24. Hi, I'm having a problem that I'm not sure if others have encountered. I purchased DAO Ultimate Edition for my new gaming PC & installed the main game & the DLC, but I am locked out of the DLC content except for Awakening. It says that the user (me) is not authorized to access it. I created a Bioware account to try to remedy it, but I am still locked out. For the record, this is a physical copy of DAO UE & am using a DVD drive connected to my PC via USB & I have Windows 10, not Steam. I don't know if that makes any difference over downloading the game, but I would be most grateful for any light anyone can shed on this. --FIREFLY11
  25. You're not the only one who'd love to see that happen to that insufferable...well, family friendly forum, so let's just leave it at "expletives deleted"! I've put in a request for a mod to either have Alistair (hardened) order her execution after she refuses to swear fealty to him as king, or alternatively have a mod where after she gets deposed she pulls a dagger from her sleeve & goes after him only for the Warden to take her out. I just got a new gaming PC, so once I get it up & running, I'm going to try to make these mods & others if I can master the DA Toolset so you may eventually get your wish if someone doesn't beat me to it. Best wishes for your husband's continued recovery. --FIREFLY11
