HELP: The infamous Z-Fighting problem.. Just can't fix it...?
Exalerion replied to Exalerion's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I know the basics of Z-Fighting, but I don't want/need to go into the details, I just want to get rid of it, or reduce it... I already have an ENB with DoF enabled and I also have Vivid Clouds and Fogs. It sometimes covers a bit of the flickering, but it's still very much noticeable, the Z-Fighting is very bad! As for the CK-part, I have zero knowledge of the CK so..., that object moving to other cells thing you're talking about is not going to happen I think lol.. I'm not a modder, let alone a cell modder... :P As far as I can see, the STEP Guide only has one link for the Z-Fighting issue which doesn't help me, and that brings up this page: http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Z-Fighting- 2 replies

Hi everyone, I have the Z-Fighting or distant terrain/mountain flickering problem, and I just can't get rid of it or reduce it! I've already tried the Z-Fighting fixes on the S.T.E.P. Wiki/Forums, but it doesn't work: I even cranked those settings up to DOUBLE those values or higher in my ini files, but it doesn't make a difference at all... I've also tried uGrids 7 instead of 5, but the only difference was a huge fps drop  I've been told that those Terrainmanager fixes on the internet will never completely "fix" the Z-Fighting issue, but for me the mountain flickering doesn't even get reduced!!! I hope someone has a more effective solution for this problem, let it be mod- or ini related...! Thanks in advance

Major FPS loss in certain Riften Interiors

After some thinking I decided to try and test it anyway. I mean, in caves or other underground interiors it's actually quite logical to have some wetness or humidity going on: wet walls and water drops. I figured that you meant bForceHighDetailReflections under [Water] in Skyrim.ini. I set it to '0' and the FPS drops are now GONE!!!! IT WORKED!!!! Hahaha, and I thought it was a waste of time!.. Sorry for being so nonchalant! Thank you very much lackesis for helping me out here! :D Sorry can you tell me exactly where to change that Matey...cause in my Skyrim ini under water I do not have that bForceHighDetailReflections ...??? This tweak isn't in your Skyrim.ini by default. Just add the line somewhere in the [Water] section of your Skyrim.ini [Water] bForceHighDetailReflections=0 But since this line wasn't in your Skyrim.ini by default, it might not work. This is because if a line isn't manually added/edited in your .ini files already, the game uses the default value for that line. The default value of bForceHighDetailReflections is '0' already (according to S.T.E.P.). But, make sure to try it anyway, because nothing ventured, nothing gained right? Thanks gona try it anyway ... Have you tried it already? Did it work? ;)- 24 replies

I've already said in this thread that my massive fps drops also occur when playing vanilla Skyrim. It's not mod-related in my case.- 24 replies

Hi, I'm not sure which setting you are talking about right now? And what is "Skyrim INI Manager"? Could you be a little more specific? Thanks! I don't know what the "Skyrim INI Manager" is either, but you wouldn't need such a thing in any case. "Forcehighdetailreflection" is set to 1. I guess he's suggesting you set it to 0. Or change the resolution of your reflections (which is currently 2048, as I recall; I remember because I was thinking that was very high) I don't really see the point in setting bForceHighDetailReflection to 0 and lowering my waterreflection resolution because it has nothing to do with my FPS problem in interiors. There isn't even any water in Castle Volkihar. And besides, 2048 isn't really that high... It's just 2K. I think lackesis didn't realize this is about interiors.- 24 replies

HUGE FPS drops in some interiors in certain areas

Yes, I've tested all of the settings that are (much) higher than default, to determine the visual/performance change. The reason for fShadowDistance=15000.0000 is to make trees in front that are a bit further away of me look much better. Trees without shadows cast on them look very bright, pale green. My shadowresolution is only set to 2048 (even 1024 right now), this is certainly not high. And the performance impact between 15000 and 8000 is only 1 or 2 fps average. But we're talking about exterior shadows here, and my problem only accurs in interiors, so it doesn't matter anyway. Lowering it to as low as 1500 doesn't help a thing. Most of my extremely high settings only affect exteriors. As for the fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=2000: since I have a pretty heavy scripted mod-setup, a lot of people recommend setting it to 2000, or increasing the BudgetMS settings. I don't know if this is truly helpful, but setting it to default (500) doesn't help a thing. But anyway, thanks for your thoughts on this!- 24 replies
