Disabling/Silencing Elemental Weapon Effects

Right now I'm trying to find a way to remove the visual elemental upgrades. So I can have my electric katana but without the stupid looking blade attachment. Can anyone point me in the right direction? btw if I do figure it out and people want a mod for it I should be able to reproduce it for all weapons
