  1. I personally love using pistols, but admittedly I guess its more of an rp thing.
  2. I would suggest at least starting a vanilla game, but don't feel obligated to finish the vanilla game first. You'll know relative soon what you like and don't like, me personally, I knew pretty early on I wanted the game to be more difficult, so I installed project nevada to tweak some settings, find out the things you want to change and then look for the mods that change it.
  3. ...Oh don't mention it. I'm just glad I was around to help you out and save the day. ti's sorta ma' thing. You didn't do anything, and saying you did doesn't make any sense. None whatsoever. Just saying. Lol, yeah that was the point. sarcasm/humor doesn't translate well to text.
  4. I think that is sound advice, you don't have to do a complete playthrough, but at least get your feet wet, that makes it easier to pick up the mods you want. There are so many mods that it can be like making an impulse purchase at the market if you aren't careful. I would suggest some though (since the only thing i do on this forum is suggest the same mods to different people). Either use nevada skies or fellout for lighting or weather, Interior lighting overhaul, Ojo beuno texture pack. Project weaponry is a really good mod that adds like 150 weapons to the game, they are lore friendly, fun, and it has weapons on all 'tiers'. Project nevada for customising gameplay.
  5. I'm bumping this because I think everyone needs to be on board with a Macho Man Randy Savage companion..It would be so freaking cool. I mean he already has a crazy multi-colored cowboy hat and a mighty beard...thats enough. Give him unarmed and melee proficiency, and a steel chair weapon...or do none of that,,just have him follow you around and say "ohhhh yeahhhh!" That would be enough for me lol.
  6. Project Nevada has extra options and rebalance which allows you to set the rarity of chems, food, ammo, and caps. In addition it also allows you to set how tough the bargaining is to make things more expensive (that one seems kind of flaky though, for example I prefer "harsh traders" the most difficult, but it won't highlight unless i select "tough deal", shrug) For added effect Project Nevada also has "unfound loot" option, which will systematically remov items from the cell (not uniques, owned or quest items) based on your luck. So for example if you set all things to rare, harsh traders, then unfound loot (and inscrease difficulty in Project nevada this is what I do) you can fulfil your hardcore roleplaying desire by dieing of 4 blocks outside of good springs from minor injuries and exposure! its a blast.
  7. Vanilla faces sort of make me think of some clay golem brought to life by bethesda's foul magics..for some reason. Anyhow, I use fo:nv redesigned, its mainly for the npcs but it also changes your character. nothing groundbreaking there I just think it looks more realistic. The skin looks more lifelike. Has blemishes, you can see texutre. I like it. I haven't tried any of the pretty person mods so I don't know.
  8. Not to throw gas on an imaginary fire, but I would expect the NCR to always do whats in its best interest. When I see a country that does whats in its best interest I say to myself "yeah, look-it that country..got a good head on their shoulders, they're looking out for their interest" As a result to people get burned, or fall through the cracks or get screwed? You bet, it happens in real life all the time for far less dramatic reasons. Ncr is far , FAR from perfect, they are simply the best option that we know of in the fallout world.
  9. Edgeburner is correct, all of gophers videos are pretty helpful. He shows a lot of good mods and how to install them. finding the right mod set up for your taste can often times simply be a matter of installing and uninstalling many things until you find out what suits your taste. Fortunately there are many good mods out there and the experiementing with different can be fun in its own right. here is my list, they are highly endorsed but doesn't necessarily mean you'll like them. Project Nevada, Nevada Skies, Advanced Recon, Fallout Nv redesigned 2, ojo/poco bueno textures, Eve, One hud, interior lighting overhaul, Awop. and New vegas bounties Also check out this weapon mod, its pretty new, but its very promising. http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/53689/? You might want to consider using a mod called CASM, it replaces the ingame save/auto save/quick save, makes the game more stable, and ensures you won't loose tons of progress if the game freezes or something. I suggest using fallout mod manager to install anything, makes it easy to go back and undo things if you don't like it, or if mess something up. This can be especially true with mods that add lots of textures.
  10. I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't seen any of season 2 yet, but I'll just say that when the "Scholar" gives his name, i flipped my wig...cuz of awesomeness.
  11. I don't know nothin' 'bout nothin', but as far as help http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/36835//? That is the radio mod I use, it works really well, adds more content, such as songs from gomorrha and the ultra luxe. and you can add up to 32,000 of your own songs, Its radio new vegas so you still get mr. new vegas. the author includes batch files to transform your music to the proper mp3 format. however it won't work if you are using .wma format, so for that I suggest first http://www.wma-mp3.org/ That program will convert .wma to .mp3 anyways hope that helps
  12. Most the factions have both redeeming and negative traits, All things considered, I'm an Ncr man. People seem to thing that the fact that it is a corrupt beuracracy is some overwhelming negative mark against..instead of understanding that thats pretty much the hallmark of all successful and powerful nations (Spoiler: Not just the U.S! so you can stop your flag burning there hypothetical college aged hipster wearing a fedora!)The Ncr offerns the best chance for the most amount of people to have reasonably satisfying lives. That being said..Those Enclave cats make a scarry amount of sense sometimes...
  13. Bethesda games are an odd breed to be sure, when the game was completely pristine it ran so terribly that I thought I had wasted the entire 10 bucks I spent on it, after several months of cycling through various mods and tweak guides i've got it running like a dream, My 1.73 ghz single core, 2gig of ram, 6800 video card, 9 year old computer handles it perfectly. I will say, Urwl stuff seemd to always cause problems for me, I use nevada skies now..before that Fellout, which is good, before that realistic lighting which is solid, before that Urwl, which caused my game to jerk, twitch and spaz out more then I do irl in social situations, when i tried nevada skies with urwl interiors same deal. Sometimes the process of getting everything "right" is just trying something, playing for a while, then trying something else and comparing, again and again. Not really all that bad, I think most people who play games modded have a touch of an obsessive disorder that causes us to want to find "the perfect" set up anyhow.
  14. Lol, that does fit pretty well huh? There are tons of good things out there to try, so I wasn't actually trying to insult dudeman, I just that list is pretty much the most all around excellent way to set up your game for immersion, throw some AWOP and new vegas bounties in there for some action and you got yourself a vid-ya game partner!
  15. Well, since you didn't ask for my input I feel obliged to give it to you. I'm not a modder so its just my perspective as a person who uses mods. I would say I don't see why you would be worried about endorsements, If your just learning anyhow. Furthermore if your going to mod you should only do it because its something you want to do, thats anything really, if your only doing it to get some sort of external approval then you'll always be disgruntled..ok enough of that. Personally if it is a mod I am using I will try to leave some sort of feedback, but Its not like I owe it to the modder, or that they want to hear it anyhow. Reading the pages of some of the more popular mods especially sort of irritates me. Currently there is a rather popular monster mod on the nexus, the author spends his desc page talking to people like they are just too retarded to understand the magnificence of his work..and really, the mod sucks...beyond that, its completely retarded. When people suggest things on the post thread for the mod, he is insulting, he doesn't want to hear "there are a lot of problems with your mod, it also breaks immersion terrible". Well that can't be right can it? Noo, the mod is fine, the problem is everybody else! Its good to keep things in perspective,I know to an author that mods represents long of hours of painstaking work, but nobody is making them do it, if your going to do something that you know has no material reward, and it will be subject to the tastes and opinions of many people, then you need to also accept and prepare for the likely reality that your mod might not be any good and nobody cares about it. And you hit the nail on the head about houses. I don't think they many players consider them very important. Back in the oblivion days having the coolest house was the thing, less so in fo3, and now, i might not even bother to drop 100 caps for a room in novac. Just don't take it personal man, because unless your one of the high profile jackass authors i'm thinking of, then , well. its not. Ask for feedback , if you don't get it, then you have another , really a better option. Just pm some of the more experienced modders on the forum and ask if they wouldn't mind taking a gander at it. Thought not programming related I work in a technical field myself dealing with robotics and automation, I don't think it matters whether your a modder or a carpenter, if its a technical area, then you can bet that the more experienced people in will be willing to , at the very least, point out all the things you don't know that they do know, and all the problems you could have avoided with the mod if only you knew the things that they know lol. Let me not ramble anymore, All i'm trying to say is, if modding is something you want to do, then do it for that reason, and that reason alone. People are jerks, and the internet in particular is nothing more then a hive a scum and villainy. Do it to get better, and then get better, for you, and don't worry about the other stuff. Oh, and when you get more experience, if you make a really big and popular mod, try not to come across as a self-entitled pissant lol.
  16. When I saw the picture, there was a brief moment where I thought "huh, Rob Zombie is really showing his age" But I like that type of outfit to answer the op. Would be something I would dig, never was into power armor
  17. Well, I think as long as you know what your doing or have a good guide then editing the .ini's is a good thing to do. I use the configator, and I'm not having any problems. I have a lot of mods and textures too. And My laptop is ancient. inspiron 9300 with a pentium m 740 and a ..*sigh* a nvidia go 6800...yeah..thats what I got. I run with medium-high settings (I don't use anti aliasing though, still use hdr and AF), poco beuno and I have absolutely no problems, In fact the game ironically runs MUCH better for me then fo3 did. The only things I use are the fallout configator, the texture optimizer (for vanilla textures, i don't compress poco bueno or the weapon retexture) and the game defragmenter on razer gamebooster I've gotten much better results using the configator to do simple things like make grass thinner or lower shadow resolution then I ever have trying use any of the so called performance boosting mods out there (snake oil) As long as I don't use AA I can crank everything else up, View distance and such are overmaxxed. If you are unsure then do what I did, I made copies of all of the fallout nv ini files and archived them in case i messed up something really bad, which hasn't happened. Edit: Something you can try is raising the amount of ram used for preloading, I upped mine from 50mb to 223mb, I left cell buffers alone though, and it made a big difference. YOu can also use the Zan's auto purge mod' which will keep your framerates up pretty high. I also use threaded morpher, blood, particles, Ai, Background pathting - on (1) loadfiles in backgroun on. ect Again just make backups but i've never had any trouble, I did it all manually for months before using the configator but thats the way to go, so eacy and convenient.
  18. You want some inspiration? I'll tell you a companion that would be so awesome, it would create an awesome singularity and possibly rip reality apart. I think its obvious.. Macho Man Randy Savage!!! OOhhhh Yeahh! Ohhh, No, He isn't in the Vanilla game is he.well , still, you know that would be a awesome companion. Just modify somebody else to look as much like him as you can lol
  19. ...Oh don't mention it. I'm just glad I was around to help you out and save the day. ti's sorta ma' thing.
  20. Edit: My head was so far up my butt that I just now (after the fact) realized that you weren't asking _for_ suggestions on mods to improve immerssion but were in fact making a suggestion..huh.how 'bout that. I REGRET NOTHING! Disregard dudeman325's response, here is a list of the best mods for immersion. I consider immersion the atmosphere and feel of the game, but if needless tediousness is your immersive i got you covered there too. I'll divide them into 2 sections. "Atmosphere and..'Feel'" 1.Nevada skies- http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35998/? Absolutely amazing lighting and weather mod, very adjustable too, it makes the environment so much more epic. It has an optional 'darker nights' plugin as well which is just nifty. Also has a winter wasteland plugin so its all ice...Look its just awesome. and It goes great with 2. Interior lighting overhaul - http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35794/? Awesome lighting for..interiors. While nevada skies has a plugin for interiors done with URWL, you don't want that..URWL is garbage..its for bums. But your not a bum are you? NO, your a contender, so you want ILO. 3.Fallout New Vegas Redesigned V2. - http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/39218/? A "face replacer" mod for NV. Not one of those retarded ones either that turns everyone in the post-apocalyptic wild west into some doe-eyed lady-gaga-esque piece of crap either. Nah, this mod is even crazier because it accomplishes what was thought to be impossible..It makes the characters in a Bethesda game look..human. Its wild, really good mod. 4.EVE (essential Visual enhancements)- http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42666/? A nifty mod contains many visual improvement, mainly dealing with energy weapons. Adds awesome effects when firing them..awesome kill scenes, effects on the environment. Worth having even if you don't use energy weapons because it even makes getting hit with energy weapons cooler. I don't use energy weapons myself because I was raised with a little something called Class. But both my pet robot Eddie and my pet boy-toy on the dl Arcade use them. Dude, its good stuff. 5. Poco Beuno textures- http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42028/ This is the Performance pack but it has links to higher res packs Poco Beuno doesn't get the respect it deserves when it comes to textures. Everyone is all about the Nmc's. Nmc are good textures the thing is, In my opinion (which is also fact), they aren't that good. There is just more of them, so much more so in fact that unless you are running a uber rig count on a respectable hit in performance. And While everything will be covered in huge textures, they don't look good enough to justify the size of the mod. You also won't miss them when they are gone. Poco Bueno has packs in all sorts of differents resolutions, and while the PB's don't retexture as many things, the things it does are just awesome. Its just a statement of fact (opinion). Immersion through tediousness. 1.Project Nevada- http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/40040/? That says it all, Yeah there are mods with a few more advanced settings here and there, but it all boils down to them taking one aspect of something somebody else did and going a step further then anybody needs or wants. For that reason PN is really all you need. You can adjust various settings relating to your primary needs, food, water, sleep. Damage, stat and skill modifiers. HOw rare loot, food , ammo and chems are, How outrageous barter prices will be. Recoils, Wep Spread...sigh, and so on and so forth. In between making you adjust settings for how many burritos you have to each day an such, Pn even manages to add some actuall game content, like additions to cyberware and enhanced stealth fields. When it comes to bogging players down with tons of settings affecting the minutia of your character's everyday bullcrap. No mod holds a candle to Pn. It is truly breathtaking in its ability to not inspire people... 2.a.) One Hud- http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44757//? 2.b) unified Hud- http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/38961/? Those are mods made by Gopher, the friendly guy from all the web-tube moving pictures who has that delightful accent. Perhaps more importantly its everything you need to customize your HUD in whatever way you see fit. (Your father will just have to live with it, its YOUR CHOICE, not his!!) Not only what kinds of things to show (there are many), but where you want to place them, and most key is the ability to decide when they are even there, so that way your HUD doesn't interfere with your view as you take screenshots of the shameful things you do in alleyways in freeside. But will automatically appear for certain conditions that you set. Compatible with other hud stuff too, but really thats all you need. All of the mods I've listed are popular, so they have pretty well laid out (and easy) instructions for installing them. Furthermore, Gopher (he of accent and you-tube fame) has several videos on installing these mods and others, Just youtube "modding fallout nv" or "fallout new vegas mod clinic" or..ya know "Fallout nv gopher vid". There are many more mods out there but these are the go-to mods. Peoples opinions on some may differ, Not everyone would agree with the mod list I gave you. Which is fine, I have long accepted that for whatever reason many people like being wrong.
