That is an option on purpose for situations like this (maybe faster download speeds). Also when first go on nmm log in window pop ups click stay offline(click stay offline line next to login) (For the problem). If you have problems try purge downloads which might fix it.

Sorry I forgot other people had this problem. If you have this problem then purge downloads then it should work.
