About Zeppilus

  1. Sounds like a good idea. Not sure if I will stick to it, but perhaps it will be a nice break from playing the game. In the case that I do write things, they will appear at Boss Mode Enabled . Wonder why I chose that title? Me too.... When I get around to making mods I will also put up my progress and ideas.
  2. Pretty sure that won't happen. None of the reviewers could keep their job or be employed again if they leaked it. Bethesda would be able to work out whodunnit, and, really, what incentive would the reviewers have? They regularly get games before everyone else, but that doesn't mean they ever leak them. Sure, theoretically, someone could upload all the files if they have the disk, then let someone else crack it and whatnot. But, really, its Skyrim: you're going to buy it anyway. (Admittedly, I "borrowed" a copy of Oblivion from the internet for a while before I eventually bought the game, but that's another matter).
  3. Good ideas. With the bank, perhaps it could offer loans. You put down some capital/your life, and get a certain amount of money. They charge interest at a certain rate, you get the gold for a certain number of days, allowing you to buy that piece of kit. Hopefully having that piece of kit allows you to make more money, allowing you to repay the debt. Perhaps the outcome of not paying back the debt and interest would be the bank sends people after you. Obviously they would be high level, but not unkillable, so it would be possible to get away with it. Maybe the final consequence would be a bounty and being harassed by the guard. Which leads to another idea: an investment system. Oblivion allowed you to 'invest' in stores, but the system was rubbish. Instead, it should be that you invest in business ventures, which have a chance to fail, but a chance to make good returns. Different ventures would have different returns and risks. Also cool: A barter system that allows you to be a fully legit merchant. You purchase (or steal) items at a low price then sell them for more in other cities. Certain cities would have a 'demand' for different things. So City A provides wine and marble. City B provides silk and gemstones, but has a demand for wine. You are the go between. Obviously, you would be dealing in bulk, so you wouldn't just run from place to place; rather, you would set up supply routes (which would have a chance to be raided?). Complex..... Sounds as though it would be quite complex to build an economy system for such a big game, but perhaps possible? Definitely think that the loan system would be doable.
  4. That was my first thought when they announced dual wielding: can you dual wield shields? It would epic just to repeatedly bash people in the face. Stupid, ineffective, but epic.
  5. This is thread is hilarious. Just pointing it out for those who have toggled off their humour. Anyway, it would be great is Skyrim had a working Alt+Tab, like FNV, because Oblivion was a b*tch. I wanted to tab out to check something on TESNexus or the wiki, and it would immediately crash upon return. Back to thread topic: I think that while nude mods can add some realism, if that's what you're after, then you must accept that not everyone has the perfectly shaped bodies that the mods give them. Realism involves really ugly or unappealing people, but no one wants to mod that.
  6. I like the idea, but for realism I would do the following (and I by I, I mean I dream someone competent will): 1) make the weapons LOOK more realistic. Did anyone else have a problem with the stupid warhammers in Vanilla Oblivion? Real warhammers look like this: http://www.museumreplicas.com/p-540-17th-century-war-hammer.aspx or with steel handles. Also, swords should be better proportioned (not a fan of manga-style stuff). 2) add an element of skill to combat. Vanilla oblivion combat was horrible, basically I held down RMB except for the ocassional LMB. Deadly Relflex and Unnecessary Violence were great remedies, but didn't go far enough. Maybe make damage dependent on where you hit the enemy? 3) accept that hacking full plate armour with a sword DOES NOT WORK. Really, no game seems to get this right: a sword cannot hack through armour. If you try, I think that the sword should be damaged very quickly and made useless. In my dreams I think of Skyrim with historically accurate medieval combat, as per German or Italian School. 4 part 1) Not needed to mod: People shouldn't use shield with heavy plate armour. Nobody did it in real life, simply because the shield was redundant, stupidly heavy and unwieldy. 4 part 2) To go with the above, the hand and a half and longsword should be implement in a meaningful way. Longswords in Oblivion were handled poorly and unrealistically. 5) Instead of combat consisting only of hack and slash, why not add some historically accurate grappling? 95% of real combats ended with both belligerents on the ground, until one could stick the other with a dagger or otherwise kill him. 6) Add the Murder Stroke/blow as a finishing move. It just looks amazing... ever wandered where the word "pummeling" comes from? Hitting someone, repeatedly, with the pummel of a sword. Of course, most people probably like their games as games, not combat simulators. Still...realism is great. And don't say "its a fantasy game" - do you think that physics and logic wouldn't exist in a fantasy world? /end ramble.
  7. I agree with the OP and others to some extent, particularly about hype and expectations being to great. However, I will add my two cents. Firstly, a disclaimer: I am an avid TES fan and PC user, and don't mean to incite unrest. I am sick and tired of hearing people say "at least we'll have mods" when they struggle to find the benefits of the PC version. It is undoubtedly true, and as an unashamed PC supremacist (I need to be able justify an expensive PC!), I like to convince myself that mods and the feeling of satisfaction from seeing my expensive PC in action is worth it. However, when I think about it, it is a bit ridiculous, for several reasons. Firstly: I congratulate and adore Bethesda for its great construction set and mod support. Best of any series ever (big claim, have no idea if it is true: guessing it is, judging on size and activity of Nexus). BUT, saying that if the game has flaws they will all be fixed and the game will be generally improved by mods is silly. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that the developer fix the flaws itself (I realise that they release patches, but much is still left to the mod community), and make the game with PCs in mind in the first place. For example, you wouldn't allow a car manufacturer to sell flawed cars then expect you or others to fix them and improve it yourself, would you? Secondly: I loved mods in Oblivion. I had well over 100, and it was a real strain on my then-rig. Playable, at maximum settings, but a strain. However, it was not a strain because Bethesda made Oblivion to be a real test of PCs, but because I had so many mods and texture packs etc. I would have liked to see Skyrim made to honestly push systems, rather than focusing on maximising who can play it. The Witcher 2 was a vast game, highly polished (with very good update support), and it was an honest strain on my PC's graphics and processing power. It shows that it wouldn't be impossible for Bethesda to make, originally, Skyrim as a graphics intensive game. I realise that mods can do great things (even so, the texture packs don't come out quickly), but is it too much to expect that the developer make the game use some of the technology of its time? I have no doubt that Skyrim will be great to play. I actually hate myself for being disappointed about it before it is even released. I just wished that they spent a little longer, or re-prioritised, to enable DX11 and really take advantage of what PCs can offer. If people say that they have really optimised the game for the (dated) power of consoles, then that means they haven't done a thing to optimise the graphics for PCs. I fully intend to play Skyrim for at least 3 years - I have played Oblivion since release, for between 200-600 hours. If the graphics aren't up to 2011-12 standards, what will it be like in 2013-14? To conclude: 1) more should be expected of the dev 2) modders should be augmenting and improving the game, rather than fixing it or bringing it up to what it should have been originally 3) it would be great if they spent more time making Skyrim take advantage of PC tech. Can anyone really argue with that logic? It is no less true just because Skyrim will be a fun game. Gameplay and graphics are not mutually exclusive. Or am I completely mistaken? PS. Does anyone know if Skyrim will launch with DX10/11, or whether they will release a patch that enables it in the future? Or will we leave it to the modders to do what Bethesda should do?
  8. Thanks. I have done some more research and found that it wasn't in fact a problem with my load order (though it did have problems - I have now cleaned it up), but because I still had settings and saves stored from the last time I played that was keeping it from working properly. I now works fine. Thanks again.
  9. Hi, Just recently I got the idea of replaying Oblivion, but to make things different/new I decided I would add mods. So I got some mods that I thought sounded good, got OMM and OBSE and NifScript and Pluggy and stuff, but when I tried to play (through OBSE) it keep crashing either just before Betheda appears on the screen or just when it does appear. I think this can be blamed on a shoddy load-order, but I have no skill with those things, so I need help. Another problem is that when I try to install the offical patch, it says something like 'an old file has been replaced. Update cancelled.' Any idea why that would happen? So, my load order: You may note I am missing some Better Cities Anvil-Leyawin (or something).esp files. They are there and they are active. I also have the rest of the FSP patches, but I dont have them active. So what is wrong? Thanks, Zep.
