  1. Y'all do a great job with the site. Been a decade and it keeps getting better. Thanks
  2. I like Supreme Magicka. Changes the mechanics for spells and enchanting items but is far from being overpowered. Can summon up to three creatures at higher level proficiency. Adds some new spells from the older games. Check it out, does a ton of stuff, well.
  3. What mods are you running? Are you sure you have all the required tools/programs/mods for those mods? Have you done all the required tweaks to whatever may be needed for the mods? Have you sorted your load order and done your archive invalidation? But most importantly, what mods?
  4. Well a thought is CTRL W closes the tab/window you are on. It's also the combo for sneaking while moving forward. Thinking this is related somehow. Not sure how to fix it but it might give you an idea how to proceede. Are you playing in windowed mode or something?
  5. Aside from iNumHWThreads=2 I don't think i have those even in my .ini file. Are they from a mod or is it something you added for some reason? My rig is pretty similar to yours and I don't get that problem in my game.
  6. Excellent. A good stability program/mod/thingy I use is Oblivion Stutter Remover found here:http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/23208/? Instead of a crash every hour or so now I can play for hours and hours in a session without one. It takes time to read the manual and understand what you are doing though. Worth the effort. I took my 200 mod game and made it rock solid stable.
  7. I really like Loth's Blunt Weapons and Armamentarium Complete. But the king of my list is Trails of Cyrodiil. -And get Ruined Ruins. Tis epic.
  8. There is a mod called Oblivion Crash Prevention System. Some people like it, some say it causes problems with your game. It's something I used a looooong time ago and it did prevent some crashes. But I think the best bet is to figure out the problem and correctly take care of it. Could work as a bandaid in the meantime. Make sure you read the description and comments well before jumping on it though. Been years since I used it and it may or may not work anymore.
  9. Can't get this to post for some reason... The UI mod likely edited your .ini file. Those edits were wiped when you blew it away and it installed a new one. Explains why you crashed on launch now. Didn't realize it was currently modded, sorry about that. You'll have to reinstall your mods or at the very least, that UI one. Appologies. User Account Control. Think it may have started with Vista and is in 7 and I presume 8 as well. You can find out how to set it up/turn it on or off, here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/turn-user-account-control-on-off#1TC=windows-7 "User Account Control (UAC) can help prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. UAC notifies you when changes are going to be made to your computer that require administrator-level permission. These types of changes can affect the security of your computer or can affect settings for other people that use the computer. We recommend that you leave UAC on to help make your computer secure." I'm not keen on the exacts of it but it is a security feature that is pretty annoying. I've read that it can cause issues with games. Don't know if that's true or not. After a fresh install of Windows it's just about the first thing I "fix" by turning it off. The constant popups when you install something, move something, etc. get on my nerves. I've got plenty of security without it. Lots of people turn it off. You might take a crack at that. I'm about out of ideas, amigo. Good general advice is grab CCleaner and have it clear out your registry. Tis safe, been using it for close to a decade I'd wager. You can try updating your drivers. Oblivion back in the day was real picky about sound drivers in particular. I do know that way back when, on my old discs version, I had crashes on area transitions and combat and updating the sound driver did fix that. Worth a shot. If I'm understanding correctly Oblivion is trying to access memory that is reserved for something else, somewhere, somehow. So like something that is supposed to be for windows or whatnot and not something like say a bad stick of RAM. Makes me think it's a bad install. Maybe a disk has got scratched or, heck, dunno. At this point I'd say for whatever reason, your game isn't installing correctly. Disabling UAC may help with that, but I'm grasping at straws now. I'm not programmer and don't work in the tech field. More of a closet enthusiast at best. Perhaps someone else will chime in with some ideas here and soon. For my money, this is the best TES game made, the only one I still play and very worth the effort to get it working correctly. Wish I coulda helped you out on this one. I'll keep thinking on it though and post if I find something of use. Good luck.
  10. And you deleted the one in the My Documents folder, not the one in the Steam folder, right? Is your game currently modded? I could see the game blowing up on launch if it's modded and those mods edited the ini and now those edits are gone. Consider uninstalling. Then go into your Steam and My Documents folders and manually remove all the crap that gets left behind when you uninstall. Crap that gets left behind and used again when it reinstalls if you don't go through and blow it all away by hand after. All kinds of junk remains after you uninstall this game. If you had an issue with something, and then reinstalled without taking out the trash manually afterward, this could be your issue. Don't tweak your .ini files like tweakguides recommends. UAC disabled? I'll keep thinking.
  11. Try deleting the Oblivion.ini file in My Documents. Launch the game after and it'll create a new one. If it's corrupt for some reason, unlucky install, bad modding experience, etc. a fresh copy will do the trick. Works for a lot of people with this error. Probably it since your other games aren't causing it. Good luck.
  12. Armamentarium Complete You need both of the main files for it and it's here on the Nexus.
  13. Lastly, after you get em all installed, run LOOT. It's a program that will set your load order properly so you don't get problems. Hopefully you are using a mod manager like OBMM or NMM to install and uninstall mods. To do otherwise is a real chore and for a new guy, almost guaranteed to hose your game often. Even then, some mods don't play well with one or the other of those. Always read the entire mod description and at least a few pages of comments so you know what the potential issues are.
  14. If you have Arma complete resources, do you also have Armamentarium Complete? You need that too, both the main files. Maskar's, Vanilla Combat Enhanced, Blockhead and Menque all require OBSE. Blockhead, OBSE and Menque will all go in the OBSE/PLUGINS folder, not the DATA folder. All the above issues will cause your game to blow up when you launch it. Gotta have the mods and utilities in the right folders and have all the requirements as well. Gotta RTFM, amigo. While probably 80% of mods find their way into the data folder, quite a few have to go elsewhere. Not mods per se, but utilities that the mods need to run. Like OBSE. You are probably going to want to start over with a fresh install. Means removing the leftover folders in the Steam and My Docs folders as well to be sure you don't leave bad prior mod install attempts and saves behind. Blow it all away and then launch your game, play for a min. Close it. Now install your mods. Until you know what you are doing, just one at a time and test that the game still works. if it suddenly doesn't after a mod, you know the culprit. Then go find out what you did wrong. What you didn't grab that you needed to for that mod, etc. There is a learning curve, good luck.
  15. Gonna just say it, yer integrated video is terrible and it's not going to get better. Sorry. Best bet, low, low, low resolution and low game settings. There is a program, might be a mod, dunno. Oldblivion. I remember back in the day reading that it was catered to getting a playable experience out of Oblivion on bad hardware. Might check that out. Good luck.
  16. Well, if you installed all the official and unofficial patches then it's looking for SI and you don't have it installed. CTD. Or, if you don't have the small dlc's like Fighter's Stronghold and those, same thing when patching with the UOP's. Uninstall, delete any remnant folders of it in Steam and My Documents, reinstall with all the dlc SI, patch away with the UOP's.
  17. Pretty much yea, that's all she wrote. This is how the game handles distant views. You can improve it some by using the tools Discovery1 mentioned though.
  18. Your specs are bad but you know that already. Bad as they are they probably aren't stopping it from loading the game though. If you installed any mods at all, get rid of them. In fact, uninstall the game, delete any remnant forlders from Steam and My Documents. Reinstall the game. See if it runs now. If you did install a mod badly or not completely or without another mod it is depending on you can get this. Even the Unofficial Patches can do this if you don't install only the parts you have game for. Like for example, if you don't have all the DLC but install the UOP and don't deselect the parts that you don't have, you get this behavior. Good luck.
  19. Oh, and when you get to Wrye in the process it'll ask you if you want to disable load order lock times or something like that. You do. You want that off. I think it will wreak havok with what LOOT is doing if you don't. You may want to run LOOT one more time when you are all done just to make sure the mods are in the correct order. Good luck.
  20. NMM is the easiest to use. I don't use it on Oblivion though, had issues with it in the past. I stick to OBMM now for Oblivion. Probably have to go hunting for a good tutorial on how to use it but it's not that hard, just a little time consuming to do it till you figure it out. Don't forget to use the archive invalidation feature, it's under utilities button I think. You'll have to learn how to use it if you want Darnified. And you do. LOOT is just a simple double click to launch. Select the game you want to set load order for and then click to sort it. Accept. And your done. Your load order has now been properly set up. The only real hair puller I use is Wrye Bash. Took a while to figure that one out. It's a massive readme but it's massive because it spells it ALL out in great detail how to use the tool. It's a great piece of Oblivion happiness. It can take a slew of mods and duct tape them together to work with each other with it's bashed patch feature. I had crash problems back in the day before I found out about it and learned it. This is the one that will frustrate you but if you run a lot of mods or even a few that make sweeping changes, you have to learn this too. Best bet is to keep the readme/manual open on one monitor and the tool on another so you can step by step go through it all. It even has screenshots and detailed explinations of absolutely everything for absolutely every tab on the too. You'll struggle the first few times with it but once you get it, it's fast and easy. It's a mandatory one. TES4EDIT I rarely use. Have off and on to clean mods but mostly I just don't worry about it. I don't seem to have problems and I usually have around 200 mods running. Learn OBMM. Learn WryeBash LOOT is just a double click and then like two or three clicks after that. Nothing to it. Install with OBMM Sort with LOOT Patch with WryBash's Merged Patch feature Yer done.
  21. Pretty sure it's just the area, guys. My computer takes steroids and it takes a hit in that area too. In that zone my FPS dips to half of everywhere else in the game.
