Vortex Changing Files Outside Vortex
BrotherShamus replied to BrotherShamus's topic in Vortex Support
Not at all! I really do appreciate that people take the time to try to help. I think my reaction probably came across as more pointed than I had intended. As it stands, I'll still be using Vortex until I play out my current Skyrim and FO4 builds so maybe I find my solution in the meantime. If so, I'll definitely post it here in case someone else runs into the same issue. -

I've never had to ESLify anything as I'm still under the ESP-ESM limit and when I make changes in xEdit, I always deploy my mods right away to try to keep things organized. I do appreciate the suggestion though! -
Vortex Changing Files Outside Vortex

Just to be clear, I'm not blaming Vortex. I've used it for the past 4 years with no issue until recently. I understand that in 99% of cases, issues with mods and mod managers are user error. However, this is something I'm unable to fix... I went through the Vortex documentation before posting here and was unable to find anything relating to my problem. Looking through several Reddit posts, it seems that MO2 is pretty bullet proof comparatively so... while I'm not looking forward to migrating and learning a new MM, it seems right now like my best option to enjoy my games without having to worry about this. -

The thing is, it's happening frequently. I'd have to load up Vortex and check for changes every time I play. What's worse... it seems that with the latest update, it's reverting changes I've made manually so... I'll use the 'Manage File Conflicts' to sort conflicts... go into game and find an issue only to go back into Vortex and find that the changes I made have been reverted. I actually did a full scan of my drives thinking this must be a virus but nothing came up. I'm too invested at this point to switch over to MO2 but will be doing that going forward. Managing a heavily modded game brings some degree of uncertainty... not being able to trust the tool you use to make things work just adds a complication that I'd rather not deal with. I do appreciate the suggestions though. -

I'm modding Skyrim... also have FO4 installed but haven't opened that up in months so I don't know if it's also affected. The problem with deleting and redownloading is that this is happening frequently. I'm now having an issue with some missing textures that I haven't touched so... something has happened to my save without my changing anything. At this point, I'm considering a switch to MO2 simply for stability and peace of mind. I feel like there's a steep learning curve though. -
I've got all notifications turned on in my preferences for this site but I'm not getting any notifications when people reply to my posts both on the mod pages and here in the forum. This just started happening about a month ago. I've changed nothing in my preferences and was getting notifications before with no issues.

Vortex Changing Files Outside Vortex

I may have explained my issue poorly... what's happening is that I'll add a mod and then hit 'deploy'. When Vortex deploys the mods, I'll get a pop-up window that tells me 'mods have been changed outside of Vortex' and it'll list the mods that have been changed (even though I haven't changed them) and give me the option to save, revert or... I can't actually remember the third option but I don't know why I'm getting the message at all as I've made no changes to any mods outside Vortex. -
I keep getting prompts from Vortex telling me that mods have been changed outside Vortex. I don't make any changes but Vortex keeps prompting me about changes (in some case asking to delete files). Also... 'manage rules' is broken but... one thing at a time.

No - to constant purging and Yes - to manual sort order!
BrotherShamus replied to Jiroun's topic in Vortex Support
How can I turn off automatic sorting? I'm trying to move one plugin (Charmers of the Reach) to load before another plugin (The New Gentleman) but Vortex won't allow it due to cyclical rules. It keeps telling me that there's a rule where CoTR has to load after TNG but I've set no such rule and can't "manage" it because no such rule exists. I'm playing Skyrim SE and after several re-installs of these and all related mods, I simply cannot resolve this. I've set CoTR to deploy before TNG in my mods section but cannot move the plugin for CoTR to load before TNG. -
I'm experiencing this right now... never had the problem before and have touched nothing outside of Vortex. Installed several mods which deployed correctly... then installed a few at once and Vortex is telling me changes have occurred outside of Vortex.

Problem solved. Apparently it was a combination of mods installed together that caused my issue. I won't say which mods as it may have been an error on my part (although I'm not sure how that could have occurred) but if anyone has a similar problem, feel free to DM me and I'll share my information with you.

(had to post this as a new comment because it got buried in my 'spoiler' tag) edit: I took a picture with my camera of the warning message and it says another application is using the mod but nothing else is open so I checked my task manager and apparently there are 4 Vortex's open. Is that normal?

I'm modding Skyrim v1.5.97 (through Steam) and every time I try to deploy my mods, I get an error message telling me 'deployment failed' for 6 items. I'm going to include the diagnostic file here... I have never seen this error message before and have no clue what it means. I will however mention that Vortex has been very slow and has been freezing (and after a time becoming responsive again) lately which has also never happened before. Here is the diagnostic file...

I'm looking for a mod that lets me bind keyboard shortcuts to a menu (possibly a wheel menu?) For example... I use keyboard shortcuts to access my ENB UI, Reshade UI, Cheat Engine, Kreate, Voiced Books, Random Emotions and Quick Map. I like to play in my comfy recliner though with my keyboard a couple of feet away. It would be great if I could bind those hotkeys to slots on a menu and access it the same way I would my in game or favourites menu. AFAIK nothing like this exists and it's well beyond my capabilities to make it. I would have posted this in the 'mod suggestions' category but... I don't think that exists anymore either.

I can't find the info on this anywhere... (including the Vortex Knowledge Base) but I'm trying to merge a mod and its update. I thought that was the purpose of the 'combine' button but... I've never done this before so I don't know. Anyway, I selected the mod and updates, hit 'combine' and Vortex asked me which mod I wanted to combine them into and I chose the main mod (not the update). Vortex deployed my mods and now the update is uninstalled but I have no clue if the merge worked or if I messed something up.
