  1. GOTY includes only MW, Tribunal. Bloodmoon. All other (eight, I believe) mods are still available on the official elderscrolls site.
  2. Hmm… I think it definitely *is* necessary to include a readme with every mod, see it like eg. learning to eat with fork and knife. It ought to be a basic practice, even if it just states „it does this and that; copy contents into data/ folder and activate esp/esm in launcher, to delete, do the reverse”. The important bit is that one instantly can reference if a mod requires additional settings, mods or updated versions of the game, and –– almost more important –– what the heck it actually does. If you have to manage a lot of mods (i have about 400 for Oblivion, 200 for Skyrim, 800 for Morrowind, and similar with other games), you'll be thankful if you do NOT have to re-connect to the web and search for the documentation you just need right now. Concerning the doc directory: I adopted this from Wrye's Mash/Bash/Smash wich puts an included "readme.txt" in, say, foo-12345.7z into data/docs/foo-12345.txt. Of course, it would be even better if those readmes were named this way by default. channel0: definitely. I'd kudo every single one of the Nexus admins and moderators if they made it a general rule.
  3. There are already some very good posts a little below that handle the IP blocking and arbitrary address assignment issue in detail, whe don't need to re-do this every few posts :-) Fact is, that IP blocking will only temporarily shut off such people, and the networks they access need additional constant monitoring by personnel that blocks their accounts the moment they are spotted. And the innocents that happen to currently use the blocked IPs because their provider assigned them on their current login are the frustrated folks that have to prove they're not the wrongdoers. By the way: It is amusing how few people know some things about other countries, especially when thinking of the background of globalization. Just to add to the confusion concerning credit/debit cards in Europe: I am german, but in my fourty years I have travelled most of Europe (including the british isles, England/Scotland and Ireland), Scandinavia and some other countries bordering to the Mediterran Sea or the Caucasus. I don't really know what you mean when you say „credit card” or „debit card”, fact is: almost each country has its own rules, some card systems (prepaid or chip cards) are „loaded” with a certain amount of cash, others work like normal Visa or bank cards which you can draw until you hit the limit of credit. There is a diversity of systems depending on national laws as well as the bank you're with, but in general, there are some cards that work all over the world the same way, like Visa. As long as you have a plus in your bank account and not fully drawn your daily allowance, you're free to go shopping.
  4. gastowski: moderators ARE gods. At least, concerning chat channels and forums. There are some sites I don't visit anymore because they got, hm, a little upset by polite criticism, or by my answering rudeness with firm, but polite words, just because I was fresh meat and the other one a long-time member. But the Nexus network is different, the Nine be thanked. Might can, and will, always be abused. We shall hope that it is not so, here. (Plato) chesko: oh, my, I must have mislaid my glasses, for I misunderstood bots posts ;-). Thanks for the clarification, and my apologies.
  5. Chesko: Bans usually are only done when the banned user is malicious, severely personally insulting or generally abusive and/or rude in some manner. As such, bans don't apply to simple opinions or statements, positive or negative, and can't be justified by saying „I don't like that opinion” or „most of the comments I get are negative”. I thought this didn't need explanation. Feedback and comments exist for exactly this, giving opinions from the users and causing the appropriate changes in the mod (or forum or tone or whatever). Or did I misunderstand and you meant that the uploaders/maintainers of mods as well as other users should report severe impoliteness far more thoroughly?
  6. A note regarding IP based watching/banning: Generally, a good thing to get rid of such cheaters. But: This might not always work. There are DSL dial-ups, like mine, where one gets assigned a random available address with each login to the provider (which, in fact, is also a security measure protecting the internet user from being tracked permanently or trapped with an IP that is for some reason or other banned on some sites, without its current User being responsible). Worst case is that an IP gets banned and the user that currently has it doesn't know why and gets frustrated. I know that this is an issue not easily resolved, but the Nexus team should keep this fact in mind. You see, what I want to say is, you're not guaranteed to get rid of those „abuses”, and are at the same time likely to indirectly punish other, „innocent” users.
  7. I am glad that most of you agree. An inspiration of a purposeful archive structure might be (BAIN compliant as well): foo-x.y.z/ docs/ foo-x.y.z.txt (or html) readme.txt credits.txt screenshots/ textures/ meshes/ scripts/ foo.bsa foo.esm foo.esp … (and whatever comes with it) blove: no, it is not an evaluation "are you a modder or not", it is a simple matter of thinking straight and making things easy for everyone. Isn't it a fact that every modder wants to get endorsements and maybe even be on the "top modders" list in some way? ;-)) (note: this editor tricked me by accepting tab as "ok, I'll save now", hence the edits. I had not intended to post and correct until it looks right :-).)
  8. just a general note/request: If someone downloads an archive, be it a mod, source-code or something else, he/she/it expects to find the related documentation WITHIN the archive so that one knows what to do with the downloaded stuff and how, even if not accessing (or wanting to access) the web. This is a general rule that was established for all open source, free-, and shareware in the early 1980s. And it is a good rule, because all things necessary to use a d/l'ed package are contained in that package (except for external dependencies, like other archives).. So this leaves the question: WHY don't you "modders" INCLUDE the readme/doc you post in the documentation tab WITHIN THE MOD ARCHIVES? This really makes me mad because everytime I want to read where to find the things or how to re-install (if dependencies exist) I need to re-connect to nexus and cut and paste that text into a text file for easy reference. This really starts to piss me off, and I am sure I am not the only one. Please, to all of you, change your behaviour and INCLUDE DOCUMENTATION IN THE ARCHIVES in the future. Not just this "I made it" stuff, but the far more important usage info. Thank you. I'm serious.
  9. ...said Descartes, and instantly vanished. Maybe he didn't die in a normal fashion. But maybe I just dreamt that he said he thought, therefore he were, and, if that is the case, what made him disappear? Did he vanish because I thought he ought to, following his logic, or because of the same paradox logic that denies the christian god to give a proof of his existence, unless he wants to non-exist? Can I move mountains, too? And where would it happen, in this reality, my reality, or anyone else's? Would it make a difference? And to whom? Tell the Dane, tell the Dane, kharn sky is relfing! @pagafyr: please, sire, I would endeavour to barter for what you might have in stock for trade, since this idea of yours is most endearing. And it is already that warm idea that you ought to be thanked for. An' it please both Overseer and Emperor.
