  1. I felt the same way until I found Complete Widescreen Fix for SkyUI 2.2 on the Nexus. Now I'm able to play SkyrimSE with SkyUI, even if it is an older version, it's still light-years better than the vanilla UI.
  2. I don't mind the idea of mod authors being paid for their work at all. What does bother me is the skewed 25% they'll be receiving. That is what smacks of pure greed to me, it should be the other way around with the authors receiving 75%. I'd be more than willing to skip Workshop and donate to the mod authors here for the same amount it could be bought on Steam simply because I much prefer that money go to the ones who did the actual work of creating the mod. Corporate greed never ceases to amaze me. They always find new lows to sink to.
  3. Huh. I've been getting the 'We'll be back very soon" page every time I've tried refreshing today. Edit: However, when I used the forum link to the Nexus Mods index page, I could finally access Skyrim Nexus once again. Refreshing the other page just keeps recycling the downtime page.

  5. Same here. Haven't had any issues with the site until early this afternoon when I suddenly couldn't download anything and I noticed there seemed to be a null value in place of my account name at the top of page because instead of my avatar, there was the generic placeholder avatar and instead of my name, it read " 's account ". Since then every time I try to log in to the site, it just refreshes the page and I'm still not logged in, just as it did right after the database move.
  6. Kickstarter and crowdfunding are incredibly exciting!! I've backed Project Eternity and Star Citizen and I've been very pleased with the updates I've been getting from both development companies, so I feel very confident that they'll budget their crowdfunding monies wisely and ensure the both games are published. I don't even want to think about the alternative because if any of these high profile Kickstarter games fail, that'll be the beginning of the end for crowdfunding. Finally the PC is getting lots of love. It's about damn time! I am so stoked!!
  7. The SkyrimEditor.ini needs to be tweaked a bit. I downloaded the one here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21741, and the CK loads fine now.
  8. I was getting the same error. Checking the Bethsoft forums and other sites, it became clear that this isn't an issue affecting everyone. It seems this is a Dawnguard.bsa issue. What I did was download the SkyrimEditor.ini from here http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/21741, and now the CK seems to load just fine. Hope this helps!
  9. I've been experiencing a lot more difficulty downloading from this site as well lately. Getting lots of page load errors, server unavailable and overload errors. In my experience, such things only occured once in a while typically, but for the past few days they occur very, very frequently.

  13. Uhm. That comment was a direct response to your assertion that taking away the "rpg elements" was "Bethesda dumbing down so many roleplaying features to attract the more casual console player." So no, no assumptions were made. If you are asserting that taking away rpg elements was done to drive in the common/casual gamer, then the opposite would be a niche crowd. It sure sounds to me like you're making the assumption that Bethesda is making more money now than they would have otherwise. We'll just have to agree to disagree on that. ;)
  14. I don't know. I'm not the one assuming it was dumbed down for the "casual console gamer." You're arguing Morrowind sold well, but Morrowind was also the game that broke Bethesda onto the console scene. Do you honestly think that Bethesda should create games for a niche group of people when they're selling way more copies to everyone? <-- that isn't hinting at an assumption on your part? That by keeping the traditional Elderscrolls rpg elements, future games wouldn't sell to 'everyone'? Bethesda insists on continuing to hire headline actors for their games. Just think of how much more studio time, extra actors and dialogue the games would have if they stopped hiring the likes of Christopher Plummer and Joan Allen. As much as I enjoy seeing them on film, I couldn't care less if they voiced a character or not, it has no bearing on whether or not I buy the game. I'd love to know if their names on the box covers really draws new players or if its truly unnecessary bloat to their development budget, which I suspect.

This is exactly how I felt about Oblivion after playing Morrowind for years, it felt like a HUGE step backwards for a roleplaying game and I laid at the feet of console gaming, and Bethesda dumbing down so many roleplaying features to attract the more casual console player. Oblivion played like an action adventure with rpg elements much moreso than a traditional roleplaying game. Do you honestly think that Bethesda should create games for a niche group of people when they're selling way more copies to everyone? That's assuming it wouldn't sell well, we really don't know if it would or not because Bethesda found it necessary to remove traditional Elderscrolls elements in the hopes it would attract the more casual console gamer. If memory serves, Morrowind sold very well so why wouldn't it be reasonable to think that future Elderscrolls games would as well if it remained a more traditional roleplaying series? I haven't played enough to agree or disagree, but I have heard more than once people criticize Oblivion for only having like 3 dungeon designs. Is this false then? No, that's true about Oblivion, there wasn't much variety in the vanilla game.
  16. I would absolutely love it if Dragon Age had a comeback worthy of Origins but with EA in the picture, I really doubt it's possible. I can't think of one instance where a company purchased by EA has gone on to become better and not worse. Traditionally, quality turns to s*** when EA gets involved, so sadly I think Bioware's days of glory and stellar products are over. I really hope I'm proven wrong, but I don't think I will be.

  18. My husband and I have been playing the Elderscrolls since the beginning, well I played Arena and my husband started with Daggerfall. After coming from Morrowind and having such a blast with that game, we absolutely hated Oblivion. There was no quest branching, no choice vs consequence and it was a completely static environment - you could leave an Oblivion gate open forever and nothing would ever come of it, for example. The sense of exploration was completely gone as well because of all the whining Bethesda got from the ADHD kids when they couldn't find things RIGHT AWAY, so they decided to add a compass to lead you by the nose everywhere you had to go. It was the first time I didn't feel the excitement of finishing my first run through an Elderscrolls game so I could reroll a new character because they were all going to have the exact same experience anyway, why bother. Not only that, but even the fricken NPCs often had multiple voices each so mid conversation it sounded like you were talking to a completely different person. So crappy. Oh! And that completely idiotic conversation minigame. Christ. I think a big blow was being completely wowed by Tom Howard's multiple preview trailers that depicted how awesome and real life-like the radiant ai was going to be and how amazing the forests were, how they grew in game, etc and none of it actually came to be in the actual game. It was a typical bait and switch, and I think I'll never truly trust a video preview from a game developer ever again. A tough lesson learned. ;) I'm sure Oblivion would have been a much better experience heavily modded but I just couldn't bear to stick around for it. We played Skyrim to death, however and loved it. Sure the quest branching wasn't a vast improvement but at least this time around I felt like I had different ways of achieving certain goals, etc. It was just a much more enjoyable experience and with not nearly the aggravation factor that Oblivion had.
