Is is just me or? but I do miss the companion quest from Fallout NV. In Skrym it's just a follower, no story or goals. Or am i mistaken?

Hi I have this strange problem When I'm in my house, and I'm standing near fire, the shadows from the fire makes things around, really messed up. Away from the fire, all is fine. Any way to fix that?
